  • In this scenario what would happen?

You know the way when you start a car you must turn the key upwards and hold for a second for ignition? I know that if you do this accidentally while in neutral there will an ugly noise ... what would happen if you turned to ignition whilst driving forward either fast or slow? In my automatic, it has no effect, just lights up the dashboard, the car keeps on, I assume as a safety feature I guess ... what would happen if you ignited as if starting whilst in first gear on a manual? Would it blow up? Is the starter motor separate to the gear and engine? Or is it safe as in my automatic?

  • How can I get over this weird OCD-like behaviour?

This is probably going to sound like the most extremely bizarre thing you ever heard to most, but I fear I may have become OCD with regards to computers. Since around June, I have become obsessed with messing with every aspect of my computer, settings etc and doing knowingly dangerous things that could destroy everything on it "just to see what happens". In each case, I know what I was about to do was stupid but did so anyway because if I didn't, the urge would just not go away and leave me in piece. I finally destroyed my laptop by formatting through the command prompt (the stupidest thing I have ever done in my life and completely my fault) and have had to use my brother's one but the same type of urges still persist while on here too. Is there anything I can do to overcome these obsessions and urges, because they are ruining my daily life when I need to use a computer and I waste valuable time and risk destroying stuff?

  • What do you think of my Cello Concerto?

Hi, I guess this is going in the right section, since I'd consider it classical music, albeit contemporary since it was only written from May - October this year. I'm a third year BMus student and majoring in composition for this year (there are options in composition, performance or dissertation). As I mentioned, this piece is concerto for solo cellist in B minor (overall, though it dives in and out of different keys) and it's my most ambitious piece to date. I did all the orchestration myself, I'm only young and not too experienced so don't be too harsh please :p.

Oh, and for people worried I might be one of the crazy contemporary composers with their scary instrumental techniques (lighting stuff on fire, helicopters, beating up your instrument and the like) I'm very much a tonal composer and close to the Romantic style. So please, do have a look and especially if you're a cellist I'd love to hear from you! Don't hesitate to ask questions either :)

  • Computer reboots constantly - how to fix?

Hi - I have an Acer Aspire 5520G laptop with Windows Vista, bought it last year, it's served me well mostly without hitch but about a week ago, it started doing this thing whereby it'll come on normally, go to the Acer logo screen, then the dash that flashes and it'll go black, the CD will make that whirring startup noise and back to the beginning - sometimes this happens over and over nonstop, sometimes I have to take out the battery to turn it off and on again. It usually does this but sometimes it would come on normally. I should note that, once the laptop comes on, it works perfectly, no visible problems, it's just at that flashing dash that the problems happen.

I suspected it had something to do with this faulty ipv6 driver (ISATAP something or other) that I had when I looked in my device manager - there was an orange warning triangle associated with malfunctions.I subsequently deleted this driver and unchecked the ipv6 option in my wireless connection so it wouldn't duplicate itself at next log on. This worked for a few days and the startup would go normally but now it's doing the same thing again, rebooting again and again, it's headwrecking - even without the ipv6 driver and ipv6 enabled.

I recently installed Service Pack 2 for Vista but I think this was occuring even before to a degree. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? I'd hate to think that every time I wanted my laptop to come on, I'd have to go through this torturous process. Any help is much appreciated and many thanks in advance.
