Laptop charger energy consumption question?
Everyone has been whining at me around the house because apparently "the charger cycles power through the adapter even if your laptop is off and it's taking all the power" and other such pseudo-scientific B.S.
Does a laptop take any energy if it is:
1: Plugged into the outlet
2: Turned off
3: Fully charged
All at the same time.
I would think that a fully charged battery wouldn't keep taking energy from the charger, or rather the charger wouldn't take much energy if any at all, seeing as how it can't keep charging a fully charged battery.
4 AnswersGreen Living10 years agoIs this a mental condition? Or is it just me?
I have had awful thoughts and fear for some time. I think it might be anxiety but I don't have panic attacks. I feel like nobody else has this problem because all the other people in my school (I'm 14) are happy all the time and I often feel either sad, worried, or absolutely dreadful.
Something very unusual though, I kind of diagnosed myself with intrusive thoughts, but it's like reverse postpartum intrusive thoughts. I am often worried about my mother in particular, and I have horrific thoughts about my mother dying, being killed or getting in a car accident. I know they are intrusive thoughts because they come completely out of nowhere and I simply cannot ignore them. I somewhat hope it is not depression, as I look at that like less of a mental illness and more like the monotony of daily life.
And a little more: I am often scared to sleep without background noise like a TV or music on. I also for some reason get fearful when the door to my room is open, I feel like somebody is going to come into my room. I have a fear of open spaces, and I sometimes feel like I am being watched when the blinds for the windows are up.
I looked back on some of the things I feel and I realized they were somewhat unusual. And I feel like I have regressed into a mental infancy because I often want to be with my mother and need attention from her, like I'll go to a friend's house and then after around 3 or 4 days I start to miss my mother terribly and worry about her, and I have to go home.
I almost hope it is a mental condition so at least I know it can be fixed. Like anxiety or something.
Thank you in advance.
1 AnswerPsychology10 years agoAsus G73SW-BST6 Low FPS in games? Can I fix this?
I recently bought the Asus G73SW-BST6 from Best Buy and I've seen a lot of gameplay videos with it on Youtube. I try playing Oblivion on High settings at the native resolution, 1600x900.
First thing I notice, it is very slow. It only speeds up when I look in a direction that has little lighting or items or characters. And by slow I mean like 30-40 fps. I saw a gameplay video of Oblivion with someone else's G73, (his had the ATI card though I thought that and the 460M were of equal power) and he's playing at Ultra High at 1600x900 with NO lag at all! What the hell?
I also downloaded the Bulletstorm demo, tried it with max settings. 20-30 FPS. Watched a video of Bulletstorm on the G73, it's running at max settings flawlessly! WTF!
I downloaded the latest graphics driver, but that's pretty much all I did. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'm no expert at computers. Please help me.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks10 years agoWhy do some people enjoy making others uspet?
I can not even wrap my mind around it. How some people get a kick out of being rude or trolling completely perplexes me.
Perfect example (this is going to sound stupid but it's especially bad in gaming): You're playing Counter Strike or something and someone keeps killing you over and over again. They'll say something like
"u suck so bad just uninstall the game"
And no matter how you respond, they'll most likely reply with
"u mad?"
Like they find fun in making you angry. Trolling is no different. Countless people will go on Youtube and/or a forum and post inflammatory comments simply for the sake of p*ssing you off, and the more angry you get, the happier it makes them. It absolutely boggles my mind, how they derive happiness or fun from enraging others.
The question again: Why do some people like to make others upset? What goes through these people's minds?
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoAmoxicillin reaction?
I was just prescribed amoxicillin by my doctor for a sinus infection. I took it at night (1 capsule) and went to sleep. Next morning, I was very itchy everywhere for no real reason. No rash or anything, I was just itchy. My hands were especially itchy, so I just scratched them for a while. About a half hour later, my hands were swelling up pretty bad and felt very strange. I don't know if the amoxicillin caused it, but I don't know what else would.
Might this be a symptom of allergy to it?
3 AnswersAllergies1 decade agoWhich of these laptops is the best for gaming?
Alienware m15x
Specs:
Processor: Intel® CoreTM i3 370M (2.4GHz/3MB cache)
Video Card: 1024MB ATI Mobility RadeonTM HD5730
Ram (At least I think that's what it is) :4GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 2GB DDR3)
Hard Drive: 250GB
Price: $1000
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=asu...
Asus N61JQ-X2
Processor: Intel Core i7-720QM 1.60GHZ (quad core)
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
Ram: 4GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 320GB
Price: $900 (plus tax) = 990
Though the Asus has what looks like better specs and a better price, I'm a bit hesitant because I've seen actual videos of game testing on the Alienware, but I've seen nothing about the Asus. Seeing as how I'm shelling out about 1000 dollars either way, I want to make sure it's going to be what I want first. And while the Alienware would be nice for the 'cool' factor, it doesn't have a number pad like the Asus.
I will want to play games like Crysis, L4D2, and Asassin's Creed 2.
Also, as long as Crysis will run at at least 30-50 fps, I'll be fine, and If I sound like I'm asking for too much for too little a price, It's because I only get money from chores and getting money takes a VERY long time.
5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoAlienware M15x - Quad core processor or Dual core?
I want to play games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2, and it comes with a standard dual-core intel i3 370m 2.4ghz processor, or I can pay an extra 300 dollars and get an i7 quad-core 740qm 1.73 ghz processor.
I'm wondering if I really need the quad-core. If I can still play games like assassin's creed 2 and left 4 dead 2 on a 60+ framerate then I won't need the quad-core. But if it really makes a big difference, then I will.
7 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoWould this design work?
Now I know this is probably the wrong section, but I figure the people in the hunting section would know more about this.
Whenever me and my dad want to go shooting we have to drive miles because there aren't any shooting ranges near, so my dad wanted to build a one-lane "range". But sound is a problem, so..
If you built the lane like a suppressor, with a bunch of little chambers throughout, would it make it quieter?
I figured that it wouldn't be the same as a suppressor because a suppressor has the muzzle gases expand in the chambers, reducing the sound, but in this design the gases all exit the gun before. But I don't know for sure.
Also, I'm not planning on shooting *ridonkulous* weapons like high-powered rifles, but rather .22's and perhaps 9mm pistols. And maybe even a .357, but probably not, so just ignore that.
Thanks in advance.
2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoSoft point bullets: What's the point?
The point is soft, it is a semi-jacketed bullet, but what does it do? Was it specialized for any certain thing, like hollowpoints were made mainly for self-defense? Are they good at something more than another bullet, like fully jacketed bullets have the best penetration properties?
10 AnswersHunting1 decade ago[Handgun] Calibers to stay away from?
I'm planning on buying a new handgun. I wanted something accurate, like a revolver. I want something that I won't be afraid to shoot (recoil), but has power. So far .357 magnum looks good. I am only 14 years old so I only get money from chores meaning I won't be able to buy expensive ammo like .44 (not to mention I'm afraid of that round) I reload my own rounds, and the most recoil I've ever felt was only from a Kahr CW9, though that gun is tiny, SUPER light and jumps in your hand.
Also, I reload my own ammo.
In short, tell me the calibers that either have too much recoil for a beginner like me or are too wimpy, or perhaps even too expensive, though I do reload my own rounds.
So far, I've found .22LR, .44, .50AE, .500S&W and .454 Casull.
Did I mention I reload my ammo?
8 AnswersHunting1 decade agoHow does a hollowpoint work?
I know the basics, they expand because they are hollow in the point, there are normally 6 notches cut into the rim of the point to make them expand easier, etc.
But do they expand in mid-air, on impact, or inside of the target? I went plinking not too long ago with a Kahr CW9 and some hollowpoints I loaded myself. I was shooting at an empty can, and it didn't really have a very significant effect until I filled it with water. It blew out on one side, but had a small hole on the other. I don't know if the small hole was an exit or entrance.
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoIs this an okay gun to get?
I'm a beginner at shooting, and I'm planning on getting a new gun. I was looking at this:
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/80037-55.html
Everyone says "Oh for that amount of money you can get a nice Ruger" and the truth is, you can't. plus, I don't even have 330 dollars as it is, let alone 450 for a gp100 (I'm 14, I don't have a job)
I can't shoot that often because of the tree-hugger idealist democrats in Washington that keep making laws against guns, because of the unsafe trash-leavers that ruin guns for the rest of us so that I have to jump through countless hoops just to go shoot some things. But I digress. Is that gun good for a starter? It doesn't need to be super reliable, I can't shoot very often, so I'm not going to wear it out, like most people say Rossi guns will do. As long as it shoots straight and won't blow up in my hands, it's okay with me.
P.S. the most recoil I've felt was from a Kahr CW9, which is a little sharp considering the gun is tiny.
Also, If I offended anyone with what I said about the lawmakers earlier, I am truly sorry. But banning guns doesn't stop gun-based crime, shooting someone is illegal, everyone knows that. If you plan to shoot someone, you wouldn't much less care that guns are illegal. Either that or they'll find something else like a knife or an axe. At least getting shot to death hurts a lot less than being stabbed. Again, I might sound offensive, but I'm just stating my opinion. I don't mean to be rude.
