  • Can anyone name this movie production logo?

    I'm trying to remember the name of a movie production company, where the logo or intro is a man running. From my memory, he's like a detective or something and he's running away from something.

    Thanks in advanced!

  • Can Chimps be domesticated?

    With the new Planet of the Apes coming out this summer, I'm curious.

    In the late 1950s, Soviet scientists successfully domesticated wild foxes within one human generation. These silver foxes behaved more like dogs, and even exhibited similar features; floppy ears, spotted fur, very playful, less aggressive, etc. I was curious if, through selective breeding, it were possible to have similar results with Chimps, perhaps within the same amount of time. That is, a breed of chimps that are docile, friendly, less prone to violence, more intelligent, neoteny etc.

  • How can I cut a movie clip into frames?

    Does anyone know of a program I can use which would allow me to I split a movie clip into smaller frames? The reason why I ask is because I'd like to use the stills as reference for an animation. I know I can pause the film and hit printscreen, but I'm planning on using a lot different clips, so I'm curious if there was a more efficient way. Thanks a bunch!

  • Can someone help me out with play button on CS3 flash?

    I've looked on youtube, but now I'm even more confused (everybody uses a different code/script). I'm using Flash CS3.

    My animation has two layers. I have already created a button already (I labeled it "button"). All I want want is for my little animation to play once I click on the button (I haven't dropped it into any layers yet).

    My teacher gave me this code:

    stop();

    btn_1.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);

    function onClick (e: MouseEvent):void

    {

    play();

    }

    So what do I do first? Do I right click on my first frame then add the script? Do add another layer labeled "actions" and insert both the script AND the button there? I've tried this, but I kept getting an error with the btn_1 portion of the script.

    Thanks in advance for any help. I really appreciate it!

  • Anyone know about this documentary?

    I'm trying to remember the name of a documentary I saw on HBO a couple of weeks ago.

    It's basically about the universe and evolution, and how they function. The host is an African person, whom I believe is a shaman of some kind, and he uses simple everyday things as analogies to the systems of the universe (like a bowl of milk, or bubbles). I appreciate the help, thanks in advanced!

  • Population Genetics question ?

    I'm having trouble with an anthropology question, thanks for any help!

    Here's the question:

    Given the following distribution of genotypes in a population,

    a. what are the observed genotype frequencies?

    b. What are the observed allele frequencies?

    c. What are the expected genotype frequencies?

    d. Is the population in genetic equilibrium?

    AA= 54 indivs

    AB= 24 indivs

    BB= 42 indivs

    *My question is, what's the difference b/w genotype frequencies and allele frequencies? Observed vs expected? Again, thanks!

  • I'm looking for a classic American novel, any help?

    I believe it's an American novel, written sometime in the first half of the 20th century. From what I remember, the story centers around a student at a boarding school (or a university, don't know for sure). He's supposed to be an intellectual type and is friends with another student who's really good at sports. Even though they're friends, the protagonist is envious of his friend's popularity. One time when they climb a tree, the protagonist intentionally shakes the branch his friend was standing on, resulting in him falling off and breaking his leg. Forced to wear a cast, his friend eventually undergoes bone surgery and dies because too much bone marrow enters his blood stream. The end is anticlimactic and really depressing. Just wondering if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Thanks!

  • I'm looking for a book, any helpers?

    I remember the cover had a guy wearing sunglasses with an explosion reflected on it (sort of like the film poster for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, except they're explosions). I believe it has something to do with the cold war, the arms race and nuclear proliferation. Thanks!

  • Looking for a certain book about the rise of western civilization ?

    I'm looking for a book by a fairly well-known author/anthropologist that explains why civilizations in Europe developed the way it did, (attributing Western success to the likes of a lush environment and resources, etc). I saw it in Barnes & Noble, but I forgot the name.

    Thanks!

  • What name matches this last name?

    I'm going to submit a concept character I've drawn to an art contest, but I need to give him a name. The character is an underground racing driver/motorcyclist who competes in illegal racing events. I've settled for "Cassia" as his last name, but I can't really think of any good first names to go with it. I'm looking for a more exotic/rare and catchy name that complements him and his lifestyle, preferably something that sounds French (though, don't let that stop you from suggesting other names).

    I've thought of Alan (reference to Alain Prost, legendary F1 driver), Evren, Owen, Jean. I like how "Llewellyn" or "Léolin" look visually, but I think it sounds a bit muddled when said together with the last name.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Real Rorschach mask ?

    So, is it possible to create a Rorschach replica mask that has the inkblots move? Okay, I know making an exact replica is nigh impossible for some one like me (us poor people). But I was thinking.. If you can get two sheets of latex, add black paint in between, glue them together, and seal it in into different segments, you might have a it something similar to in the comic/movie. No? Has anyone tried something like that?

    In the city of New York, is it legal for a fire hydrant to overlap a bus stop? Isn't that a safety hazard?

  • Looking for an animated movie..?

    I really need your help with this. I remember an animated film that would always air on Cartoon Network around Christmas many years ago. I don't quite know how the plot goes, but I believe it has trolls/goblins and one specific troll/goblin who happens to be very good. He ends up turning into a boy in the end. Or something like that. Thanks a bunch!

  • What exactly is a troll (fantasy, not the annoying type)?

    So what exactly is a troll according to actual traditional folklore? I grew up with the three billy goats gruff, so I always thought trolls were hairy, ugly creatures that lived under bridges (I always imagined they looked like those Trolls from 'Ernest Scared Stupid'). Peter Jackson and the Harry Potter movies introduced another type, one of a giant, ugly, vaguely human-like creature (the Potter Troll being more human-like). Then there's those troll dolls, which were more cute than scary. Then there's that Troll movie (1986), in which trolls are depicted as leprechaun-like. 'A Troll in Central Park' has the creature depicted as cute. Trolls from WoW appear more like goblins, albeit with tusks. So what exactly are trolls? What separates them from Goblins, orcs, ogres, imps and elves? They all seem synonymous to me.

  • Tips for a prospective animator ?

    Firstly, I'll tell you my position. I'm a college freshman (I'm just about finishing my first semester), and all my life I've always loved cartoons. Problem is I'm not much of an artist (still a beginner), I've really just started drawing last year and I don't have much experience (although I think I've made some progress). Here are my questions:

    What should I study to better my skill? My college offers an illustration course, for example. Anyone suggest any graphic novels?

    How competitive is the 2D animation field?

    Do I honestly still have a chance in being successful, despite the fact I'm still currently a novice?

    Any other advice?

    Thanks!

  • Can Spiderman evade a lightning bolt?

    Human reflex stands at about .1s (according to wikipedia, don't know if that's entirely accurate). Spidey is said to have reflexes 15x faster than a normal human. Can Spidey react faster than a lightning bolt?

  • How would it appear traveling through a wormhole?

    This site describes a wormhole as a window. Is this accurate? Would traveling through a wormhole appear as if you're actually going through a tunnel, or would it look like a giant window to the other location (in which you could just step into)?

  • Color perception ?

    Do we all see colors the same? Now I'm not talking about color blindness. I'm talking about, say, how do I know that the color 'red' is the same 'red' you see? How do I know the color you describe as red, is in fact what I perceive as blue? Its an idea my friend brought up and I thought it was pretty interesting. Sounds a bit strange, I hope someone out there got what I was saying. :D
