2 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoYahoo News has this headline "Bush Says He'll Veto All Iraq Plans with Timetables". How reasonable is this?
Actually, what it says is "Bush Says He'll Veto All Iraq Bills with Timetables". Same difference. But the wording is mine, for emphasis. The point is, when the Democrats have a practical definite PLAN for Iraq -- which Bush and the Neocon Nation have always claimed they lack -- he has nothing responsible to say to them but a veto threat.
Is he being reasonable? Is he dodging the real alternative plan he has pretended to be praying for, when it is handed to him with every i dotted and every t crossed?
17 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIs the powerful NRA gun lobby to blame for today's gun violence at Virginia Tech?
http://www.saneguns.org/law/nramythquotes.html
"[The Second Amendment's] intent was to guarantee the right of states to form militia, not for individuals to bear arms.
Robert Bork, quoted in "Bork Says State Gun Laws Constitutional," Los Angeles Times, March 15, 1989, Part 2 pg 5
http://www.saneguns.org/crime/homicides_handguns.h...
"One of the most startling comparisons is the relationship between new handgun sales in the United States and the homicide rates. The correlation (0.9815, where 1.00 is a perfect correlation) certainly provides extremely strong support for the argument "handgun sales = homicides", although it does not, by itself, establish causation."
Anyone have anything new to contribute to this topic? I say this because I have read about a dozen retreads of the NRA jingle about "prying my gun out of my cold dead hands" today, and the irony of that comment, in the present context, is of course lost of the unsophisticates typing it.
Anyone?

Circuit City just fired off a bunch of hourly store employees who had worked their hourly rate up beyond minimum wage, while at the same time keeping 3 top ranking officers of the company on with combined salaries of $33M.
What does this say about Circuit City's attitude toward their average patron? Do you plan to join any boycott?

10 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoSo Bush says the war needs 8,200 more troops on top of those he's already sent?
...Didn't the Democrats tell you that the 20,000 would be too many, and yet not enough. ...That opening those "just a few more troops, I promise, just a few" floodgates, and you don't know where it will end. In short, didn't we foretell the future as to the bottomlessness of the pit of misery for the United Sates, that is Iraq?
We could gloat over being right -- and cons being wrong over and over again -- if only Bush wasn't killing more Americans than Osama Bin Laden's boys did on 9/11.
13 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoIs the 1-Doctor practice dead? Does anyone have a family doctor or pediatrician who is not part of a 'clinic'?
When I was a kid, growing up in a medium-to-large sized city, our doctor ran his office with the help of two or three nurses and a receptionist. Fast forward a few decades, and I know of no doctor who has such a practice, by himself. My current family doctor, whom I am happy with, is part of a medical associates company that has about a dozen doctors. I see only him when I have an appointment. It isn't a clinic in the strictest sense. But I am just wondering if anyone goes to a doctor who isn't part of a larger group these days? Judging from my region of the country, one doctor to one office seems part of the past.
Related: Does anyone know if there is any incentive to join a group, if you are a new doctor, besides the money one? Have insurance companies forced this sort of "pooling" of doctors into companies?
5 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoConservatives - Between Obama and Hilary, which one would you pick for President of the United States?
What I am trying to do here is open a dialog that takes the average conservative -- who as we know, detests both these people -- beyond the easy shot of making a big deal out of Barack Obama's middle name and parentage, or Hilary's husband's affair, of who's ugly or who's black, to the crux of the central issue facing voters in the next election, which is leadership.
Who would do a better job?
Please take a few minutes to consider this. Resist the cheap shot if you have it in you to do so. While it's certainly true that more syllables won't get you more than 2 points, please bear in mind that using an adult vocabulary will increase any literate reader's respect for your intelligence and opinion.
Thanks.

18 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoWhy was the anna nicole judge so reviled in the media? Is it just fun to complain about people in public?
Why has this guy been subjected to extreme slander in the media? Example: ABC TV kept repeating that the judge of this particular proceeding was a "taxi driver turned judge." But hold on. ---The judge is 56 years old. He graduated from law school at age 25, one of the youngest people to do so and be accepted by the bar. He drove a cab in student and pre student days, over 30 years ago. So this is like saying "He used to hang out around elementary schools all day long ... oh, when he was 10 years old, btw."
Bottom line, if you have any exposure to courts, you know he isn't that rare a type. There are lots of prima donnas, mild eccentrics and people whose years of experience make them dispense with protocol. Their sacrosanct position seems to encourage this sort of behavior.
I think they were grasping for anything to extend the airtime for this popular story. I'm surprised they didn't complain about the janitors who cleaned out the courtroom, just to get more play for this story.
