  • Can I recover the files off my portable hard drive?

I had well over 10,000 songs on a portable hard drive and accidentally dropped it one day. I couldn't access the music folder all of a sudden, so I took it to Best Buy and had them check it out. The guy said when I dropped it, the part of the disk which was being used (the music, which is also 95% of the space taken) was damaged. They said they could send it off for about $200 to recover the files, but there's no guarantee.

Do I have a good chance of recovery? I've started trying to find all the sources again and put them on another portable hard drive, but it is a painstaking process and have started thinking it'd be worth it to pay the fee. Or is there a better option? I'm pretty desperate

  • Do online training programs have a record of your keystrokes?

I'm doing some online training for a job I will be starting soon. I have to take these modules and then I am tested on them afterwards. Some of them are like powerpoints with a recording that guides you with the test built in while others are just a .pdf file that you read on your own. I've noticed that it's possible to have the .pdf open while taking the test and I'm wondering if there's anything that could detect all those cheaters out there. I won't lie the thought did cross my mind, but I don't know if they are able to see something like that.

  • Which version of "We're Not Gonna Take It" is this?

My friend's dad had some album with some version of "We're Not Gonna Take It" that started off with a crowd chanting "USA" and an announcer comes up and says some words then, "Are you ready to rumble?" The crowd goes wild then the drums to the song come in as the song starts.

Of course my friend's dad can sometimes be a prick and when I asked him, he did not give me a definitive answer. So if anyone could tell me where I can find this song, I'd really appreciate it

  • If we traveled light-years away from Earth, would we be able to view Earth's history?

So the sun is 8 light-minutes from Earth, which means it takes light 8 minutes to reach Earth. Therefore, we are looking at the sun as it was 8 minutes in the past. In comparison, light from the Andromeda galaxy takes about 2 million years to reach us so we are seeing Andromeda 2 million years in its past.

Now, for the sake of example, if someone was able to stand on the surface of the sun and view Earth, theoretically they should be seeing Earth 8 minutes into its past. Based on this logic (if it's even sound logic), if one were to build a space probe that could travel the speed of light or faster with a telescope that could still view Earth over the vast distance, would it be able to view Earth's past?

For example, say the probe traveled 67 light years away from Earth could we view the events leading up to the end of World War II?

  • Why have folders (with their files) disappeared from my portable hard drive?

I have all my music on my portable hard drive. I almost always use the Safely Remove Hardware feature and the only times I forgot, I was not using any files from the hard drive or saving to it. For some reason, music files I haven't used in a while have begun disappearing. First, a while back, the whole folder for an artist just vanished. I hadn't listened to the artist in a while and felt like listening to them, but their folder wasn't on my hard drive. The same thing happened today. I'm not sure how long the folders had been missing, but its rather vexing that they're gone because I can't find their CDs anywhere and don't feel like paying for another one. Is there anything I can do?

  • Why is Spore running so horrible?

I installed Spore, got the 1.05 and 1.06 updates, Creepy and Cute pack, and the Galactic Adventures pack. When I first boot it up it works fine except most of the animations don't work, i.e. eating a downed victim, picking up new parts, attacking. As I keep playing, the game starts to slow down. I have all the right requirements. So whats wrong?

  • What compressor would be best for me?

I have a fender strat that I play through a marshall. I'm trying to get closer to that Brent Mason-like country tone. I realize a compressor is not the only thing I'd need, but it's close enough for me. I'm trying to decide which compressor to get. I tried out the Boss CS-3 and had no problem with it but I know the MXR Dyna Comp is a more popular compressor. Any suggestions as to which one is better? Are there even better ones for about the same price range? What are your thoughts on the MXR Super Comp vs. the Dyna Comp?

  • Why does my alpine head unit keep losing my ipod?

I have the CDA-117 unit and an ipod touch. For some reason the unit will randomly "lose" my ipod (i say lose because my ipod still has the alpine logo on the screen) and will say "No Item Connected" or something of that sort.

I can fix this by unplugging and then replugging in my ipod, but if i don't change the song, it will happen again.

This is extremely frustrating so if anyone could shed some light on a solution i'd really appreciate it

  • Anyone know where I can find an old version of this hat?

I know this is a stupid question, but I would really like to get a hat like the one I lost. I can't remember where or when I got this hat, but it flew off my head while riding on the boat. It looked like this one:

    http://www.tractorsupply.com/mens-hats-caps/tracto...

except the only camo on the hat was on the bill. I think its an older version of the one in the link. If anyone knows where I could find a hat like the one I lost, I'd appreciate it.

  • What is wrong with my computer?

My computer randomly freezes while doing some of the most basic of tasks (e.g. accessing 'My Computer'). I've used multiple programs (spybot, malwarebyte's anti-malware, McAfee, a few more) to search for malware, spyware, viruses, etc, but to no avail. Do i need more RAM or something or is there some super virus i'm unaware of?

  • Why can't my computer safely remove my portable hard drive?

I apologize for the length, but I feel that it's necessary to give every detail just to make sure the reader/possible answerer (you) can understand the problem.

Up until today my laptop (hp pavilion dv6500 running vista 32-bit home premium) and portable hard drive (320GB toshiba hddr320e04x) had a nice, healthy relationship. Only now, my computer seems to not want to let my portable hard drive go. Each time I try to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" program (which I have always done without any problems at all) my laptop will do two things:

    1. If I click the program from the notification area (or whatever the line of icons at the bottom right corner is called), nothing happens for about 30 minutes before it says something about a problem and that I shouldn't remove the hardware.

This has only happened once since I unplugged the portable hard drive when I thought my computer was just being too slow (no program was using it so I figured it was fine), plugged it in again and I was still able to access all my files, and haven't needed to unplug it until now.

    2. The second option I have (since the Safely Remove Hardware icon has not shown back up in the notification area) is to click on the "Computer" link from the start menu where it opens a window showing me my Local Disk (C:), my Recovery Disk (D:), and my Toshiba External Hard Drive (F:). When I right-click on drive F: (the hard drive I am having trouble with) and click on "Safely Remove" the window freezes up, takes on a blank white interior, and changes its name at the top from just "Computer" to "Computer (Not Responding)".

Although I cannot "safely remove" my portable hard drive, it still works fine and I can access all my files when it is plugged in. If anyone can give me some insight into what is troubling my computer-portable hard drive relationship, let me know because I need them to work together so I can listen to my music and access my files for school.

  • Why does my laptop want to install backup software for my portable hard drive?

This just started today. I keep my music on a portable hard drive and I am actually using it to listen to the music and save my schoolwork right now.

It used to be that if I double-clicked on the F: (the portable hd) drive under My Computer, the window would just open into the portable hd. Now, however, my laptop wants to install some backup software.

When I right click on the F: from My Computer, "Install Backup Software" is in bold (I assume it is saying that this is now the default action for when I double click on it). I do not remember ever seeing that option before anyway.

My virus software has not detected any viruses or anything and this is the only thing that my computer is doing that is out of the ordinary, so I don't think its some kind of virus

If you can help me at all (maybe by telling me how I can reset the default function for when I double click on the hard drive), I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Why does my toilet gurgle after flushing?

Each time I flush my toilet, it releases air pressure out of the base of the water inlet pipe about every 20 sec for 5-20 min. I don't believe its a leak because there is no water on the floor. I'd appreciate any advice

  • Why Won't McAfee Go By My Scan Schedule?

I have McAfee set to do a full system scan of my laptop at 4 am (because that's when I know I won't be using it), but for some reason I never get a scan report when I wake up and McAfee will decide to scan around 10 or 11 am. I can't have it be scanning at this time because I can't have my laptop acting slow. How can I fix this because I doubt my laptop has had a good scan in at least a month.

  • How to change XBOX Live NAT types?

I'm trying to get online with some friends of mine, but they have moderate NAT types and I have open. An open NAT should work with all NAT types according to the error message I get, but customer support says open only works with open, moderate only works with moderate, and strict only works with strict. What do I need to do to make my open into a moderate NAT type?

  • How do I fix Microsoft Word 2010 Beta outline indents?

I know I'm just being a perfectionist but if I can't fix this, it will be the only thing I can focus on when I'm trying to study.

Anyway, so I'm trying to make an outline of my class notes. For some reason the indents of the third and fourth points are not the same:

    I.---Point 1

    II.--Point 2

    III.-------Point 3

    IV.------Point 4

    V. Point 5

(the -- represent the indent; it won't let me post a question if i just use spaces)

As you can see, III and IV have an excessive amount of indent that does not go along with I, II, and V. I want III and IV to look like I, II, and V, but each time I try, it does nothing. What do I need to do because this is bugging the hell outta me.

  • Anyone know this Derek Trucks song?

i heard it on the XM Jam On station. it was only Trucks and a flute playing. i can't remember if it was specifically the Derek Trucks Band or if it was Trucks with someone, and i think the song name started with S and i don't think it was an English word, which is why i can't remember the song name. it had specific melodies that were repeated, so its not sonido alegre. i think the best way to describe the guitar tone is rusty with high treble and mids maybe.
