Hemlock Grove. How did Olivia actually die?
I thought there were only certain, specific ways to kill a vampire. Is tongue snatching now one of them?!
1 AnswerRap and Hip-Hop8 years agoWhy does a cake mix from a box taste more moist than any cake that I have ever tried from scratch??!!?
I've made many cakes over the years and they've all been pretty good. Recently I grabbed a box and made a quickie cake for my birthday so the kids could sing and help me blow out the candles. My whole family exclaimed that this cake was the best one I had ever made. How embarrassing ...The only thing that I can think of is the oil that is added to a boxed mix. Is that it?!

2 AnswersToddler & Preschooler8 years agoI've been itchy for over a week now. HELP!?
While I was in Nicaragua I developed a red, hot, itchy, bumpy rash that covered my neck and the 'collar' part of my chest. It began about 2 or 3 days after I arrived and I was told that it was a common heat rash. I kept it dry and cool and stayed out of the sun. However it was still unbearable - I had to take Advil just to sleep at night. When I arrived back home the scaliness smoothed itself out but I'm still mildy itchy and red. Now, almost a week later my face and eyes are itchy. My eyelids are also puffy and I have dark red, very itchy circles under my eyes. I look like a vampire! I lead a healthy lifestyle, haven't started using any new products and don't wear make-up. Any and all advice welcome.

4 AnswersCooking & Recipes9 years agoWhere can I buy Chana Food Products in Ottawa?
I've been on their website and there are no retailers listed for my city. There seem to be only 3 flour mills in Canada but Chana seems to sell more products and to the public. Too bad they're all the way in Windsor. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm looking to find some durum wheat flour. Regular grocery stores and the bulk barn don't have it.

3 AnswersCooking & Recipes9 years agoWhy did my sugar cookies turn brown and look all melty?
I followed the recipe exactly and because the first batch turned all brown and melty I put the second batch of cookies in for 6 minutes instead of the recommended 8 minutes that the first batch got. Both batches turned out the same? How come?
This is the recipe I used:
1 lb butter
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Mixed butter and sugar together, then added other mixed dry ingredients together. Rolled out dough, cut and baked at 375 F for 6-8 minutes.
This is the recipe that my daughter brought home from school after they made these ones at the school. Theirs turned out nicely ...?!
Any insight welcome, thanks!
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes9 years agoI need a Christmas gift idea for a 20 year old female.?

4 AnswersChristmas9 years agoDo we need a lawyer or the police?
A friend of mine is in need of advice and I'm not sure what to tell her! Three years ago she arranged a marriage for her Canadian son with a young woman who was living in Pakistan. The two were married, have no children and now the son lives upstairs in the main house with his family and the daughter in law has the basement apartment to herself. Over the three years the daughter in law has been physically and emotionally abusive to her husband and his family. No amount of kindness shown, counselling offered or eventually ... ultimatums have convinced this girl that her behaviour is unacceptable. My friend has contacted her family in Pakistan to let them know of the situation several times and to ask for advice/help and has come up empty handed. Now my friend and her family have had enough. As I said, the husband has moved upstairs and the daughter in law happily (and noisily) lives in the basement apartment. They have told both her and her family back in Pakistan that they wish for the girl to leave their house. The family says that their daughter will not be returning to Pakistan and the girl simply says that she will not leave the house. My friend would like to act swiftly as she is afraid that if she gives this girl any more time there could be a new issue of blackmail. The girl already knows that she is unwelcome so my friend is concerned that this girl will threaten the family with a story of rape (my friend has another son who lives in the house) and/or abuse and will go to the police if they don't pay her off.
Police or lawyer or both? Any advice welcome! Thanks.
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoHow do I teach my 4 year old daughter to love the colour of her skin?
My daughter has made objective observations about the colour of her skin for about a year now. My husband and I have listened and been positive about her observations of herself and of others. She is friendly with all the children she meets, regardless of their backround, language barriers and/or cultures. When I spoke to her daycare provider about these observations, I was told that it is totally normal in children her age (3.5 at the time). She was making comments like: "I am the same colour as Daddy and my brother is the same colour as Mommy." However, last week she burst out crying and saying that she wished that she had the same colour of skin as I have (and a boy in her class) and that she hated being the colour she is.
Well this broke my heart. She truly is a gorgeous little girl with beautiful skin (I'm not being biased as her mother!). I asked her why she felt this way and she didn't really have a reason. I told her that she is the colour that she is because Daddy and I loved each other so much we made her to be a beautiful mix of the both of us. I told her that it is important that she loves herself for who she is. I was prepared to handle her observations about others, whether positive or not but this has really thrown me. I don't want to make a big deal about this in case it was a one time burst over something else entirely (and came out as it did) but I certainly don't want to ignore it either. I spoke to the caregiver of the boy in her class and she seemed shocked that my daughter would feel this way. The boy is very sweet ... I don't think that there is any negative influence coming form there.
The school that she attends is one where there are children and teachers of all backrounds/mixes, etc. and she seems to have no problem making friends and likes her teacher. I am thinking of mentioning it to her teacher and asking if she has observed or heard anything similar and whether or not she has any advice for me.
Any advice from others who may have encountered the same or similar experiences as I have welcome!
8 AnswersToddler & Preschooler10 years agoI need a recipe for a rehearsal dinner punch that is similar to the flavour of cream soda?
The bride's favourite drink is a cream soda cooler. I want to make a lightly alcoholic punch without using the cream soda from a can. If anyone has any ideas, all are appreciated. Thanks.
1 AnswerCooking & Recipes10 years agoRecommendations for purchasing a sewing machine for a beginner please?
I am a little overwhelmed by how many machines are out there! I am just starting out and will probably spend most of my sewing times by trying to make clothing for myself and children (Halloween costumes). I may take some sewing classes so I have read that a lighter weight machine may be something to consider. ANY suggestions or advice welcome. Thanks!
3 AnswersHobbies & Crafts10 years agoIs this saucepan worth saving?
In an effort to be efficient, I filled a saucepan with measured rice before Ieaving the house in the morning so all I would have to do when I returned home in the evening, is add water and turn the stove on. Well, I forgot to add the water, smoked myself out and now have a black bottomed saucepan. I have soaked and & scrubbed for days but there still remains black rice imprints on the bottom. (The rice is gone.) Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem or shall I just lay the injured party to rest?
6 AnswersCleaning & Laundry10 years agoCan an infection clear up without antibiotics?
I believe that I had a throat/ear infection that seems to have cleared itself up ... is this possible? I never saw a Dr because I was crazy busy with kids and moving house ... not the brightest move, I know but that's the way things have been. So, my throat felt like it had been burned and was very painful when I took a breath in ... my left ear canal was in quite a bit of pain for several days and it hurt to swallow or clear my throat. The pain from the throat seemed to last about 3 months and the the ear pain lasted a solid week. I still have occasional pain in my throat when I am tired. I will get a Dr. now that we're moved but getting someone who is taking patients ... and the application process is unbelievable ... and you can still get refused!
Thanks to anyone who knows!
