  • What is the difference between a "sent" message and an "unread" message?

In my phone, there are icons for sent, read, and unread messages. My question is what is the difference between unread and sent? I have sent messages that have remained marked as a "sent" message since I sent them weeks ago. Does this mean some of my messages are not being received? I checked under message info and it says it was successful, but I'm assuming that if the person/people got the message but didn't open it it would be an unread message.

  • How to punctuate/capitalize after a quote?

I've always been confused on this. What am I doing is this: "Et tu, Brute?" - "You too, Brutus?" The famous quote from Julius Caesar...

Is that right? It always looks weird to me having no punctuation after the quote, but is that the correct way?

  • Is it possible to make a third-party company gift my Amazon purchase?

Is it possible to make a third-party company gift my Amazon purchase?

I am sending my girlfriend a gift from Amazon.com, but the third party company doesn't seem to offer gift options. I just don't want her to see the price and such, so is there a way I can do that without having to buy a different item? Thanks in advance.

  • If an alternate universe (or universes) would it even be possible for us to scientifically prove it?

What kind of evidence would be left in our universe, if any?

  • How should I approach this?

I recently started dating this very attractive and very nice girl. For our next date, she wants to go to the beach. The problem with this is that although I'm relatively skinny, I am very self-conscious about I look, especially considering how she does. Its her turn to pick the date and I would feel bad if we didn't go just because I didn't want to. Any suggestions?

  • So this may be a stupid question, but how exactly do people hack computers?

With all of the news about Lulzsec and current hacking at companies, I got a little curious. I know you have to know a lot about computers and algorithms and that sort, but what do they actually do that lets them get into places normal users can't even get close enough to to get blocked from?

  • Are my "standards" unreasonable?

At my high school, there is so much drug and alcohol use it is almost unbelievable. I don't like to associate myself with the people who do that stuff not only for reputation, etc, but I just feel like they can't be making good decisions and that must overlap with other parts of their life. But to my question, is it unreasonable to consider any girl who does drugs/alcohol undateable (It effects how I think of their personality making them unattractive to me, not necessarily me just dropping them for knowing). Especially since I'm not that popular, should I try to alter my feelings on this?

  • Does anyone else have a fear of growing old and being lonely?

Not being lonely as not having a special someone, but just being lonely most days with no one to talk to or hang out with. My grandmother is watching me while my parents are away and I can't help but feel bad when I don't have time to spend with her but know she doesn't really have anyone when she goes back home.

  • Is it weird or antisocial to not like to go to school dances?

Or dances in general. Even say, when I am asked or if I know friends are going (I am a guy in case you didn't realize by my name). I just hate going, I don't have fun and was wondering if that happens to anyone else.

  • Your favorite quote/saying?

Must be a serious quote, something not meant to be funny. This isn't for a project or school or anything, I'm just looking for some cool and intriguing quotes/sayings.

  • For decreasing the deficit, why does it seem like there is a lot more focus on...?

reducing spending instead of finding ways to increase our GDP (mainly value of our exports) as a means to close the budget gap? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I just would think that would be a helpful way to decrease the deficit without having to make some cutbacks that would be very harmful in terms of the economy and living conditions.

  • Would you necessarily know if you have Bipolar Disorder?

I sorta doubt that I would, but I've noticed constant and frequent extreme mood swings, from being really upbeat and happy to depressed and angry within hours of each other. I have also had a terrible time trying to go to sleep for the last couple months. I was just wondering if I would know if I was Bipolar or if I would really need to go to a doctor to see.

  • Does the history of American discrimination ever make you feel ashamed?

As in from Native Americans, to blacks, to Japanese during WWII, up to gays and Muslims now, and all the ones in between. With the radicalization hearings going on now, I just wonder when America will stop finding someone to hate and discriminate against. It makes me ashamed that our great country has committed so many wrongs and still has yet to learn from them.

  • Why do people believe in horoscopes?

And not realize that the descriptions given are vague and general so anyone can interpret them to their liking? It just seems really stupid to me that there are people who actually base decisions off these.

  • What is the best major in order to become an FBI Field Agent?

As in I would question people, process crime scenes, make arrests/raids etc, and not geared more toward lab and forensics. Also, this is not just for FBI, more as in any Federal Law Enforcement Agency but I was using FBI as an example.

  • I don't feel like I will love anyone or be loved and every relationship I imagine...?

I can't help but feel like it will be short lived and/or pointless.

Has anyone ever felt this way and what did they do to get past it?

  • Why do conservatives believe that the more people who have guns the safer we will be?

I have thought about this for a while and have tried to leave any politics out of it. Here are a couple arguments on the subject and tell me what you think:

    Less control:

-People who want guns for illegal and dangerous activity will find a way to get it.

-It takes a person to kill someone, not a gun.

    -Allows for more personal safety.

    For control:

-To me, it seems like more guns equals more potential problems. Considering that there are some very unintelligent people, it seems that people who want to own guns should have to prove that they are responsible and able.

-Some statistic pointing out that people who owned guns were around 60% more likely to be shot/hurt/killed in a home invasion.

-More guns and being able to carry them outside the home would result in more instinctive shootings/violent responses to situations that are not necessary (something I believe to be true, not a fact)

I am sure I have left many pros and cons out so feel free to leave some of your own.

  • Do you think that if Ted Williams didn't claim to find God, would he still have gotten as much support?

Support as in job offers or monetary help/talk shows. Do you think it would have been enough to gotten clean and have his voice but him say, "No, I don't believe in God." Just wondering people's opinion on this.
