How to cite stuff for an article?
I just applied for an internship with a local magazine. They asked me to write two articles for them. I've finished one about my college's soccer team, but I used some of stuff regarding the great academic record (an award or two that they received last year), as well as their record last year, and the names of some of the players from the roster. Do I need to cite this? If so, how? Don't worry, I'm not completely crazy, depending on the answer's that I receive, I may just shoot the editor an email.
1 AnswerMedia & Journalism7 years agoMy five minute video is 385MB?
How did this happen!!!!? And how can I reduce it? I won't have to make a new one, will I?
I recorded a video (it's actually 4:44 minutes long) with my laptop for a video interview, and it won't upload. I'm thinking that the size of this file is the problem. Is there a way I can shrink the size, or should I just re-record it?
3 AnswersCamcorders7 years agoTips for going to temple for the first time?
I've been studying Judaism on my own for like a year now. I want to convert, even though I realize that I don't have to. I'm part of the Hillel at my college and I've been thinking about going to temple for shabbat for some time now, but I'm nervous, because I've never been. Hillel had a thing where they went to temple once a month, but they slacked on doing that after the first month of school. My parents are very supportive and want me to go and get this experience.
I'm mainly nervous about the expected mannerisms and such. I'm the oldest child/grandchild in my family by about 6 years. I'm used to having to do things alone and have no problems with this, but realize that I lack experience in this area. I have a lot of Jewish friends, so after going by myself a few times, I'll more than likely go with them and their families/friends.
I've heard that it's better to go to a temple, because it's the reformed branch, for your first time, is that true? What should I wear? What should I bring (I have a Tanakh, so I'm thinking that I should bring it?)? What should I expect?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and answer this! :)
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoI really want to straighten my hair for a date tonight!?
I'm going to see The Fault in our Stars tonight and straight hair looks better with the outfit I want to wear. It's going to be 78 degrees when we go, but like 70% humidity. I'm only going to be outside for like 2 minutes and I have coconut oil in my hair, should I brave it or just change my outfit?
Also, the temperature and humidity predictions for tonight keep dropping. Both were about 10 degrees/10% higher when I checked the weather for later today at like 1am. Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersHair7 years agoIs it healthy to have my hair wet all of the time?
I'm home for the summer and I tend to wear my hair up in a loose, tug-free bun. My hair is very thick, so it takes nearly an entire day to dry while in a bun and when my hair dries, I get it damp again (not soaking wet). I'm only washing my hair about once every two weeks, btw.
3 AnswersHair7 years agoQuestion about texting a guy?
I was at a small house party gathering and there was this absolutely gorgeous guy there. Around the time everyone left to go to a different house, I told him that he was a really nice person & that, unfortunately, I probably wouldn't ever see him again. He gave me (& the girl I came with) his like business card with his number on it. Then he said "here's my number if you guys ever need a phone screen fixed" then he looked at me & said "or if you ever want to text or anything." Does this sound like an okay to texthim? I think it does, but I haven't dated/talked seriously to any guys
in college yet, so I'm not sure. Also, what should I say to him, if I do decide to text him. & how long should I wait to text him?
4 AnswersSingles & Dating7 years agoCan you be withdrawn from a lifetime membership of an academic society that you were ineligible for?
Let's say that hypothetically someone is admitted to an academic society, but upon further examination it turns out that they were ineligible for it. They've paid the dues for it, been accepted, have a certificate saying that they've been admitted, and the membership is a lifetime one. Is there any way that membership can be taken away at a later date?
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)7 years agoShould I skip two years of college?
I'm an 18 year old history major. I plan on going to law school afterwards. I'm scheduled to graduate in 2016, but if I do summer sessions, then I'll be able to graduate in 2015. My parents are fine with whatever option I choose, but I'm so unsure. The main problem I have is building up a strong resume in such a short amount of time. So I guess what I'm asking is what things should be on a prospective law students application? I think this is going to be the "make it or break it" part of my decision.
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)7 years agoDoes hair grease get rid of frizz?
My hair is EXTREMELY frizzy. I use anti-frizz conditioner and heat protectant spray for my hair when I straighten it, but when it's really humid out, my hair puffs up as if I tried to blow dry it straight. So far, I've just been wearing it natural when it's really humid, but I like being able to choose how I wear my hair. Would hair grease get rid of my frizz?
2 AnswersHair7 years agoWhy do people, historically, hate the Irish?
I need help Yahoo, so far I've turned up with next to nothing on the subject. The closest thing that I can find is referencing them not being Catholic/Christian until Saint Patrick introduced it to them.
Don't say that people don't/did not hate the Irish either, it's a prevailing stereotype in Europe (according to my college friends in America for schooling from Europe). The Irish were the first slaves brought to America. They were treated worse than Africans and were freed in the 1850s. The British, because of slavery and genocide techniques, managed to cut their population in half IN A SINGLE DECADE. Also, let's not forget the No Irish Need Apply signs that were in America in the 19th century or the fact that clowns were created as a stereotype of the Irish.
I keep finding evidence of these occurrences with no cause and it's really confusing. Usually, there's a reason behind discrimination, whether it was considered to be the truth at the time or just a false belief held by many, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the Irish. Thanks for your help in advance!
2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture7 years agoI see crows everywhere?
For the past two years I've been seeing them everywhere. At home they linger and caw around my window (only when I inhabit the room. This has been tested. I'm in college now, my little sister sleeps in my room, and she claims not to hear or see them.). I would see them around my high school a lot too. Now that I'm in college, I thought I would escape them. I'm 15mins from the beach, but I see them ALL OVER CAMPUS. I see them EVERYDAY (on the days I leave my dorm). They don't seem afraid of me and I usually see them flying by or me walking pass groups of them. I don't know if anyone else notices, but I plan on asking my friends soon. Maybe I'm just being paranoid? Thanks for your inputs in advance!
3 AnswersMythology & Folklore8 years agoShould I celebrate Hanukkah?
I'm not Jewish, but I plan on finishing up the conversion process (contacting a Rabbi and what not) in the next year or so. I'm in college and part of our Hillel and we do feasts and celebrate Jewish holidays, but the majority of Hanukkah (the first 5 days) falls on break. I read somewhere that its disrespectful to celebrate Jewish holidays if you aren't actually Jewish, so I'm unsure as to whether I should try to celebrate this with my family (they are agnostic and certainly wouldn't mind). Additionally, I know the history behind it, promoting Jewish people to stay true to their faith via what happened with the oil lamps to the Jewish Maccabees in purifying the Temple in Jerusalem after the Syrian-Greek soldiers defiled it and attempted to force Jewish people to abandon Judaism. I know that what I do is ultimately my choice, but I'm just looking for feedback to take into consideration. I'm considering just going to a service during Hanukkah, but most places fill up/are costly during the holidays.

6 AnswersDogs9 years agoWhy are there spiders in my room?
I never find any insects such as ants or gnats in my room so why are there spiders? Also my room is more towards the cold side compared to the other rooms in my house. If you know anything I can do to stop this from happening DO NOT HESITATE to let me know!
3 AnswersZoology9 years agoHow to convince my parents to let me go to the beach?
I'm 17 and my friends and I are starting an environmental club. We're in IB and in need of volunteer hours. I told my mom that towards the end of next month we may do a beach clean-up (not sure where yet) and she said no? She automatically assumed I was going to drink or go have sex. I've been to parties where those things happen, heck I've been to school dances where that happens but I don't partake in it. I seriously have zero interest in it to the point where I've stopped attending those kinds of parties. So far I'm the ONLY person in my class who can't go to the beach with a large group of friends and no I'm not exaggerating I am the only one out of nearly 500 17yr olds. Most of my friends go to huge concerts like Bonaroo alone or with like 2 other friends, I'm trying to go to the beach to clean-up and MAYBE hang out with 30+ people who I've known for 4 or more years and trust. What can I do?

3 AnswersBiology9 years agoDoes it snow in Japan?
I'm a junior in high school. We only learn about Europe and the U.S. in school. The only time we learn about countries in Asia is when it pertains to the Iraq War, British East Indies Co., major treaties, Opium Wars, WWI and WWII….someone said it doesn't snow there bc in Anime and Manga they only show spring-like scenes, but that sounds unrealistic….
8 AnswersJapan9 years agoMath Studies SL IA help please!?
For my IA I planned to prove that gas prices of a state and the individual per capita income of a state have a strong positive correlation. By comparing the data I collected, they have a highly negative relationship, so what can I do? Is it possible to do an IA on disproving a relationship instead of proving one? Please help! This is due tomorrow, and thanks in advance!
