Should Ronald Reagan get (all or part of) the credit for the demise of the USSR?
Some folks think that Reagan and/or his Administration precipitated the demise of the former Soviet Union. Should either Reagan or his Administration get all OR partial credit for that historical development? Political provocation would hardly be a Marxist interpretation of history.
3 AnswersGovernment9 years agoDo staff of the Christian Science Monitor have medical insurance? What does it cover or provide?
Reportedly, Christian Scientists claim that illness is somehow metaphysically unreal. Many who work for the CSM are themselves not truly 'Christian Scientists' (who believe what Christian Science teaches).
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics9 years agoIf Iran's economy shrinks by 1% per year, how long before Iran will cease to be a viable nation?
Surely the answer is not "100 years" (that would be a straight-line reduction, and that's not what the economic description claims).

What is nature of Godhead in Mormonism? It seems to be a nontrinitarian complex Godhead in Whom one (like Jesus) can attain (or a place in) Godhead.
I 'Googled' "Godhead in Mormonism" and found these URLs:

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWho decides WHAT episodes of the Simpsons will be rerun each night, and when are those decisions made?
On local stations, MOST of the episodes of the Simpsons are rerun episodes. When are those decisions made, and who makes those decisions? Are these selection decisions ad hoc nightly decisions, or are they made well in advance?
Are these decisions made LOCALLY or by the TV station, or are they made at some higher level?
1 AnswerComedy9 years agoKeep alive the rumor that God is alive?
"Keep alive the rumor that God is alive..."
Years ago, a mainline (Protestant ecumenical) denomination an ran an advertisement ending with the wording, "Keep alive the rumor that God is alive."
What mainline Protestant denomination (perhaps in the late 1960s or early 1970s) was that? Was there public discussion at the time (on the topic AND on the advertisement)?, Where might we find printed documentation of the advertisement and any (possible) public discussion? Why can we find only one Internet mention of that very curious ad (www.dsmyers.com)?
The mainline denomination was perhaps Presbyterian (PCUSA?) or Lutheran (LCA?).

How many centers does Head Start have today, and how many persons are served (estimated) today in 2009?
While serving in the Office of Economic Opportunity Dr. Julius B. Richmond initiated an innovative community based program: the Neighborhood Health Centers (now known as Community Health Centers). In a short period of time, fifty such centers were operating. The program has since grown to more than 800 centers in late 2005 (but how many are there actually today?) serving a number we think is around seven million low income persons. The program is under local governance through boards made up of local citizens. This program, along with Medicare and Medicaid, had much to do with improving access to health care for the poor. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, President Lyndon Johnson presented Dr. Richmond with a distinguished service award in 1966.
So (a) how many CENTERS are there and (b) how many persons do we estimate are served by Head Start?

2 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoDid the UFW (United Farm Workers) ever call off the boycott(s) of table grapes OR lettuce (or both)?
I've been boycotting Welch's for years, but I can no longer remember why (yes, it's been THAT long!), and I've been boycotting grapes since The UFW (United Farm Workers) under (the late) Cesar Chavez called a boycott against table grapes.
I don't know that the table grape boycott has ever been called off, and Cesar Chavez is now dead (I attended his memorial service), so that leaves us in limbo, continuing the boycott (kind of like continuing the fight WWII in the South Pacific because we got lost and didn't get word that the armistice had been signed).
Did the UFW (United Farm Workers) ever call off the table grape boycott OR the lettuce boycott (or both)?

What are some of the problems with, and criticisms of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programs, which aim to reduce poverty by making welfare programs conditional upon the receivers' actions?
According to the World Bank, "Conditional cash transfers provide money directly to poor families via a "social contract" with the beneficiaries – for example, sending children to school regularly or bringing them to health centers. For extremely poor families, cash provides emergency assistance, while the conditionalities promote longer-term investments in human capital." [1]
In April 2007, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the launch of a conditional cash transfer pilot program, called Opportunity NYC, in New York City. The first CCT program to be launched in the United States, it is being funded by a number of private partners including The Rockefeller Foundation, Robin Hood Foundation, the Open Society Institute, Starr Foundation, AIG, and Mayor Bloomberg's personal foundation.

Lovable vegan songs would celebrate our values, attract to vegan ways, and give the public a clue to vegan consciousness, inviting them to join with us in a better way of living. When will vegan musicians create for the public this way?

7 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoRSS feeds for all Yahoo! 360 blogs; can Yahoo blogs be read in other websites?
I want to have my Yahoo! 360 blog FED into another framed site so that my Yahoo blog looks like the other blog
I would like my Yahoo! 360 blog FED into another framed page so that my Yahoo blog will look as if it is a different kind of blog.
In other words, I want to write my blog entries through Yahoo! 360's blog interface, then when I've published each entry, I want that entry to be automatically "READ" (through an RSS feed?) in another website that I set up.
Perhaps I set up an "element" in the new website that will receive the Yahoo! 360 RSS feed.
What are the best ways to do this? Or rather, what are ANY ways that I could do this, so that the Yahoo! 360 brand (and creative limitations) don't overwhelm my blog, but so that the simplicity of entering my blog entries into Yahoo! 360's blog interface is retained and not lost.

1 AnswerYahoo Profiles1 decade agoIs there room for hundreds of vegetarian and explicitly vegan organizations in every large city in No America?
Recent history has shown that, when one group tries to supplant or supplement another, either group declines and fails, or both groups fail. Perhaps we've reached a new day in the consciousness and presence of vegetarians, and certainly NO group or set of organizers/administrators/values can appeal to all persons practicing vegetarian diets any more than PETA does or could speak for all pro-animal vegetarians.
1 AnswerVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoWhich religious are most vegetarian friendly? How, why, and under what conditions and for what reasons?
I'd like some evidence base for every attempt to answer this question. There are scores, perhaps hundreds of books on this topic in what could broadly be called "comparative religion", but my reading has left me unsatisfied with any of the attempts to create general categories. For every _Pious Vegetarians_ by a Prof Rynn Berry of the New School of Social Research in NYC, there's a _The Specter of Speciesism_ by Dr. Paul Waldau of Massachusetts, which indirectly rebuts Berry's generalizations. The Society of Ethical and Religious Vegetarians (SERV) - www.SERV-Online.org welcomes all who are veg-friendly, but they don't do critical analysis as perhaps someone like author Keith Akers might do (www.CompassionateSpirit.org).
Some lean socially and politically to the left, often aggressively so; many others demonstrate that the family friendly ethos is more generically hospitable to the actual life needs of vegetarians in families, only child or not.
Show some examples & real data.
