  • My best friend seems to think I'm gay, but I'm not?

I'm 17, a girl, junior in high school, and I've been best friends with a girl since freshman year. We get along really really well, we've spent a lot of time together and have about 1,000 insiders. But this semester she's been treating me really weirdly. She keeps making all these pointed comments hinting that I'm a lesbian. I'm definitely not, I haven't had the best luck in relationships with guys, but I'm not gay.

Like one time she accused me of checking a girl out (I was admiring her outfit and even explained that), and she was like "That's just gross, I'm sorry but you shouldn't do that. It's awkward, find a guy to check out". And a few other times she's said things like "You just want to be with her forever and always, right?" (she said this to me after I told another friend that I loved her, not "love" of course, after she gave me a hug). And we used to say "I love you" to each other and stuff just as part of our friendship, and we'd say it openly and not think it was strange, but if I say something like that to her now, she's like "ewww, that's gross, I have a boyfriend unlike you". And I watch Pretty Little Liars (one of the main characters is a lesbian) and she's said things like "well, I know the REAL reason why you watch that show" and "I bet you want her"

I don't have problems with the gay community, I support it, but apparently she doesn't. I'm just not a part of it. But she keeps making comments and they're getting worse. We don't talk nearly as much as we used to. I don't know what it is. As far as I know there aren't rumors of me being gay. I'm pretty well respected and I have friends from all walks of life, but it hurts to see my best friend treat me like this.

I don't want to confront her over it, but I miss how simple things used to be. I'm kind of tomboyish because I play sports (tennis and cross country). I've got a very open personality, and I get very touchy with people sometimes because I'm not shy and I enjoy feeling close to my friends and people around me. I'm really comfortable with giving out hugs and stuff like that. She's the opposite, she hates touching people. She used to be very comfortable around me, we'd hug each other a lot, but now she doesn't want me to touch her it seems, she'll give me strange looks and be kind of cold.

Sorry that this is really long. It just frustrates me that she acts this way and I want to save my friendship because I miss how it used to be. But idk if I should just find a new best friend if that's the way she'd treat me (or worse!) if I really WAS gay. Advice please!

  • This guy asked me to prom, does he like me?

In my AP English class, we do an activity where random topics are written on folded slips of paper, and each person draws one paper, and we have to go to the front of the room and give an impromptu speech on the topic we drew. Well today, the day before our spring break, a boy in my AP history class told our teacher that we should do that same activity since we didn't have anything planned, and a good portion of the class was gone, took extra days off for spring break. Little did I know that he had worked it all out with our teacher beforehand. He and the teacher had it planned so that I would be last to give my impromptu speech, which would only leave one possible topic to draw from the cup when it was my turn.

When it got to my turn, the teacher had substituted the last topic for a piece of paper that said "Will you go to prom with Marty Lucas?" (I changed his name for privacy). I drew it, read the prompt out loud, and finally got the word yes out, it really surprised me.

He has acted differently around me than other people, but he's naturally sort of a flirtatious person. He acts kind of nervous around me when other people are around, especially his guy friends, but when we're alone or not with people that either of us really hang out, he seems comfortable and confident. He's gone out of his way in the past to do nice things for me, and I catch him staring at me in our classes sometimes. He almost treats me like one of the guys though, because he high-fives me and teases and those kind of things. Also, prom tickets just went on sale this week, so he asked really early, which really makes me think he's interested.

I just don't want to rush things or scare him off, any advice on what to do? I'd like to take it further after prom, but I don't know for sure if he wants that, and I don't want to mess up by being too forward. But I don't want to let something that I want go. What should I do, and what do you think he thinks about me?

  • How many calories should I consume every day?

I'm a 16 year old female, 5' 8", and about 120 pounds. I am extremely active, I do a at least 2 to 3 hours of high intensity cardio every day, 2 to 4 times a day, like bike riding, kickboxing DVDs (TaeBo), distance running, using an elliptical machine, and zumba. I take dance lessons (not zumba) 3 times a week, ride horses twice a week, and I'm training to run cross country for my school's team, so I'm doing a lot of running, and I incorporate those other cardio exercises to build strength in other areas, and get more endurance and muscle mass. I also lift weights every day to build muscle and tone up somewhat (I'm trying to put on a few pounds in the form of muscle). In addition to my heavy workouts, I also work a job at a relative's farm about 3 days a week where I mostly do manual labor like shoveling dirt and mowing grass, which I guess burns off a lot of calories. I tried looking at online calorie counters, but they didn't really seem to give me an accurate reading because I couldn't find one that really fit with my activity level. I could only find that for my height and weight, that if I was sedentary, I'd need around 2,000 calories, and if I was moderatly active (exercising 4-5 days a week, about 30 or 45 minutes a day), I'd need around 2,400 calories. I know I could easily eat that many calories in just one meal (I have a HUGE appetite), but I'd like to know what would be a good number for me to just put about 5 pounds in the form of lean muscle, and then gradually maintain my weight at about 125 pounds (while continuing all the exercise I mentioned above). Thanks!

  • Good microscope for a beginner?

I am starting 7th grade this fall, and I am interested in using a microscope in my science studies. This is my first microscope, except for one that came from Toys R Us that I had in 2nd grade. What kind of magnification should I get? If possible, please recommend a good microscope that is somewhere in the 100-200 dollar price range. Thanks!

  • Is this all right?

I once weighed 120 pounds (obese for my age) and then, right now in just a matter of weeks, I lost close to 15 pounds, without changing my diet. Is this normal?

  • I need help with a friend?

I have a friend who talks a lot about my brother. She says that he's weird and crazy, even though he isn't. That's all she talks about. My brother and how she thinks he's a lunitic. I don't like her talking like this to him, but I can't tell her about it, because she is only 7 and it might hurt her feelings, but she hurts mine because how she raves on and on about how she thinks that he's mental. I like him and I don't like the way she's acting. How can I say this to her, without making her upset?

  • Should I stay home or should I go to a party?

One of my friends is having a spa party on her birthday next week. I got an invitation to go to it, but I'm not crazy about that kind of stuff. I don't want to hurt her feelings by not going, but I don't think I could stand that for several hours. Should I just go and make her happy that I showed up, or should I just say I can't come and make myself happy. Also the boys are eliminated from all of this, so it's not nice and I'd rather hang out with everybody, but what do you think?
