I recently responded to a craigslist posting to get paid to participate in a focus group to try a new brand of coffee that has ganoderma in it (some type of mushroom that has supposed health benefits). The posting seemed legitimate, all they wanted was a phone number or email to be reached and what time I could be reached. They responded back saying this:

"Due to the overwhelming response to this advertisement, it has been practically impossible to call every single candidate. As a result you are receiving as a preliminary step to attending the coffee briefing. The Manhattan coffee briefing is scheduled for Thursday, June 30. You must be professionally dressed and bring a notepad and a pen. You must reply to the email to reserve your seat. Include your name and the name(s) of any guest who will be accompanying you. If you show up without responding with an affirmation that you will attend, you may be refused entrance into a fully booked briefing. You will be given a sample of the coffee for free so, in your response be sure to include information on whether you drink your coffee black or with cream and sugar."

I guess what looks fishy is that a. they never mention what company this focus group is associated with (besides a contact person who I googled and nothing came up) and b. there's that vague preliminary meeting.

Is there any reason why I think this is a scam beyond just a gut feeling?

I was homeschooled my whole life and wanted to get some sort of college degree(and college experience) before I went to a 4 year school. As a result I never took the SATs etc

Will I still have to take them? Or does it completely depend on the school?

Honestly, it's no worse than any other genre of music(in terms of lyrical content.) I would actually like some thought out answers, not: "lolz i hate rap bcuz i think it degrade women lolz!"

For every rap artist that you think degrades women I can name 5 classic rock artists that do the same.

I'm personally not a big fan of them, because of their black and white thinking; all psychiatric drugs don't work and the only way to cure your self to join their religion.
