I am a Senior Yamster, with an award that says I'm a "Community Leader." So ask me anything!
Why can I give thumbs down to one answer and not another?
I was looking at a question with a lot of answers, and wanted to give thumbs down to a rude one. The phrase came up "we cannot record your rating right now, try again later" in red. That's odd, says I. So I go to another answer on the same question, also a bad one (but not so rude), and the thumbs down rating works. That's even odder, says I. So I go back to the rude one I originally wanted to rate, and hit it again. "Your session has expired. Sign in again." WHAAATTT????
8 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWho's the sexiest senior citizen you can think of?
I'm turning 60 next month, friends, and I need some new images for my wish book. I've over-used poor dear Sean Connery. Who else is a sexy senior citizen of the male variety?
29 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoHow hard is it to create a clientele in being a home schooling tutor?
I'm pushing 60, and the various things I am able to do narrow down a bit, but I can still love kids and seeing them light up when they learn something that matters to them. I am, to be blunt, itching to tutor home-schooled kids. How hard is that to set up? How do I establish my credentials? Maybe do some book reading or volunteering at the local library? Come on, home schooling parents, give me your best here. I'll be in St. Louis, Missouri, if that's relevant.
6 AnswersHome Schooling1 decade agoWhat really worthwhile stuff did I miss not having a TV these last 20 years?
I have recently turned on to some very good stuff on DVD from The History Channel, and now I'm excited. What recommendations do you have about really quality informative stuff [National Geographic being the obvious example] I should look for on DVDs that was done for the better cable channels? What would you say is worth the price? (They ARE pricey, being multi-disk sets.)
10 AnswersHome Schooling1 decade agoDo you consider "sorry, don't know" a cheat as an answer?
I have lately been cruising the old questions with no answers at all. And so very often my answer is chosen as best because it is the only. And sometimes my answer is an elaboration on "I don't know, but . . ." offering whatever advice I can give on how to find out.
But I just answered one that had several answers, and the FIRST one was "Sorry, don't know," without more. Why should anyone get points for that? If that's not a pointless answer, what is?
10 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhat DVDs should I look for from the History Channel?
I stumbled across "Founding Brothers," and I love it. Anyone have a favorite from the History Channel I should look for? Tell me why it seemed special to you if you can.
5 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWhere are all my groups in my email address book?
I write an email to several people, and Yahoo Mail prompts me to make a group. Good idea, so I do. Now I want to send to that same group, but where is it?
3 AnswersPreferences and Settings1 decade agoWhy do some people label all sorts of things "gay"?
It almost sounds like they are saying "bad," or "ugly," or at the very least "something I don't like," but why "gay?" I mean, that word has been accepted to be a mark of pride for homosexuals. Why use it for something like the color of a shirt or the style of a pair of sunglasses? Are they saying gay people should be ghetto-ized by the way they look, and everyone who uses any one of these articles of clothing (or listens to this musician, etc.) is gay?
What's going on here?
10 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender1 decade agoWhen charities want money to help people and you don't have any, what do you do?
Everyone says "volunteer your time instead," but you only have so much of that, too. If you can't spare money, you probably also can't spare time from earning money for essentials. What other ideas do you have on how to help those in even worse situations than yourself?
7 AnswersCommunity Service1 decade agoWhat was the best news story of your lifetime?
I suppose most of us would choose 9/11/01 as the worst, but what was the best? Do you remember where you were and who was with you when you heard about it? How did you react?
5 AnswersMedia & Journalism1 decade agoDo you look for a synonym when the preview shows asterisks?
How do you respond when you get a preview screen interrupted by asterisks, courtesy of the censor bot? Post it anyway, asterisks and all? Space the letters out or replace a letter with a number to get past the bot? Or find a more polite synonym for the word that got shot down?
My favorite is the latter. I use the word "scat," for example, a more scientific term for body wastes that does not give the censor pause. I use BS for the subset that comes from the male bovine. And say "have sex" for the f word. What are your synonyms?
4 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhy do all the UNICEF questions say they were asked a month ago?
What is the reason, if you know? Or what's your theory, if you don't know? Seems very odd to me.
1 AnswerYahoo Answers1 decade agoWhat happened to my avatar photo this time?
A friend asked me to change my 360 photo (which is what is supposed to show up here as my avatar) to a picture featuring candles for the weekend. Some Aussie thing about Peace, and of course I love Aussies and also love Peace, when I can get it. Now I'm back to being a grey shadow over here. What gives?
3 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoIs there a way to send a question to the "usual gang" by email?
I have a small circle of friends I want to send any philosophical or certain other interesting questions I find myself wanting to know how they would answer. Can I make a "usual gang" designation for them through this little envelope icon I click on? Or by way of my Yahoo! mail?
2 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoMay I have your definition of Compassion?
I was privileged to see the Dalai Lama once a few years back here in Santa Cruz. Now that I'm leaving this space, I want to remember what it has given me. And I remember that His Holiness's theme was Compassion. And he enlarged my definition of it forever.
What's yours?
14 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoUsing the image of Mother Earth, what age is the human race?
I'm beginning to think we are rather troublesome young adults who really ought to leave the nest and go seek their fortunes, and let Mama have a little rest. She'll take care of the old folks if you just give her a break.
What do you think? How old is the Human Race in this metaphor?
6 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoParents who home-school: what are your favorite web sites for kids?
And how old are your kids? Do you stick to the "age appropriate" designations, or go with what you know your own kids can do?
5 AnswersHome Schooling1 decade agoWould you home-school your kids if you could work out how to do it?
So many statistics are showing up about how much smarter home schooled kids turn out to be. If you could figure out how to do it, would you home-school your kids? Maybe with enough club and social activity to make up for being in school with other kids?
7 AnswersHome Schooling1 decade agoWhat's your favorite web site, nominally for kids, even though you are an adult?
Now face it, lots of us old folks never learned one-tenth of what is available in most of the well-designed web sites for kids. What's your favorite? All your favorites?
3 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agoHave you checked out the things the BBC web site has for kids?
It's totally awesome! I'm sure lots of grownups don't know a tenth of the things kids can learn.
