  • Who was the greatest military leader in US History?

There were a lot of great military leaders in the US in the last 200+ years including, but not limited to:

    Washington

    Andrew Jackson

    Lee

    Grant

    T Roosevelt

    John Pershing

    Eisenhower

    Patton

    Bradley

    MacArthur

Could Grant have pulled off Operation Overlord?

If Washington had been in charge of the Confederate army, would he have done better than Lee?

That is not even considering naval and air commanders like Jones, Halsey, Nimitz, Pulaski, or Doolittle.

If Patton was assigned to the Air Corps, Nimitz was a tanker, and Doolittle a sailor, would they have done as well?

  • Who was the greatest human being EVER?

There are a lot of notable and accomplished people throughout history, but who was the greatest?

I would think that it would have to be someone who had a profound impact on the world through their own specific accomplishments in several fields that would not have been done by anyone else at the time, or at least one MONUMENTAL world changing accomplishment.

For example, Bell invented one of the most significant inventions of all time (the telephone), but there was at least one other person completely removed from his work that was working on the same thing at the same time. So Bell would not qualify because while the accomplishment itself was great, he is only noted for it because he beat another guy our by a few weeks. SImilarly, Edison did the most important work in terms of harnessing electricity, but Tesla was also working in the field and could conceivably made some of all of Edison's breakthroughs given time. Also, most figures from ancient times are hard to quantify in terms of what they actually did that was significantly greater then their peers since it is likely that a relative few get the credit for thoughts and ideas that came from many others. Many crGandhihandi as being a great man (I don't, that isn't the point), butaccomplishmentsments are confined to his philosophical teachings only, and had a less quantifiable effect on the world.

Jesus is disqualified from consideration for one of two very good reasons. Either he actually IS the Son of God, speaking His message etc., and is disqualified on the basis of devinity, or he was only a human philosopher who began a movement that, while incredibly influential today, was really built into a true force in the world after his death by the work of others. (I make no comment on my personal stance on the issue.)

Give me a few candidates and a justification for your votes. I have three top candidates (that I will post later) in mind that I think would be tough to top, but I am anxious to get more input.

  • Where do people get the foolish idea that the FCC is making all TVs that are not HD obsolete?

The new FCC regulations making all commercial broadcasts change from analog to digital has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with HD televisions or HD programming. I suspect this misconception is caused by rwo things. The first is that there a plenty of self proclaimed "experts" out there who now know everything there is to know on the subject because they once read a WHOLE two page article in Time magazine a few months ago. The second is the case of TV salesmen taking advantage of the misinformed publit to sell them things that no only do they not need, but will never actually take advantage of. For all of you people who think that starting next year you will need a HD TV or you just won't have any television to watch....what gave you that idea?

  • Could a person that is not eligible to be elected president become president through succession?

There are two main qualifications for running for President of the US or for VP. First you must be 35 years of age or older, and second, you must have been born in the US. There is a specific order that is in place for if the President dies. If the President dies, then the VP becomes president. If they both die, the Speaker of the House is next. If all three die, then it is the Senate Pro Tempore, and then Secretaries of State, Treasury, Defense etc.

What if, for example, the Speaker of the House was Arnold Schwartzeneger, who was not born in the US? What if something happened in the 1970s and it got down to Henry Kissenger as Sec State, also not born in the US?
