  • can your planned means of suicide be confiscated?

this is a purely hypothetical question: if you admit to having thoughts of suicide and your shrink asks you if you know how you would do it, does he, or any other authority, have the right to confiscate your means? e.g., say you'd use a gun you own; can they have that gun taken away from you? or if you planned on ODing with prescription drugs, can they take your pills away? whoever "they" may be?

  • if daimler/chrysler goes bankrupt what happens to my loan financed thru them?

i financed the purchase of my car thru daimler/chrysler with a 0% APR/60 month loan three years ago. what would happen if they were to go bankrupt? would i have to pay my loan in full or would it be wiped away? since i doubt a bankruptcy would actually happen, i'm really just curious to know how something like this would play out.

    thanks for any input!

  • feeling a cold spot on your cheek?

every once in a while i get what feels like a frozen patch on my cheek; kind of like someone's holding an ice cube to my skin in that spot. it doesn't last long or hurt. it can happen when i'm working at my computer, or just walking around.

my doc said he never heard of such a thing and it doesn't bother me, so i've never pressed the issue. i'm really just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this as well.

    thanks!

  • what is your thumbs up/down criteria?

i.e., what about an answer makes you give it either the thumbs up or down ruling? do you use it sparingly or do you do it all the time?

sometimes i get thumbs down for what i believe are fairly decent answers. to be fair, i don't mind thumbs down when my answer is flippant and/or snarky, but when i'm being genuine, it kinda bums me out. luckily, it's only for a second or two and i move on.

i only give thumbs up to answers that are similar to ones i would have given or that make me laugh out loud. i give thumbs down to rude, bigoted, sexist, racist, and wrong answers (e.g., 2 + 2 = 5), as well as to those people who have no sense of humor. i only give star ratings to questions that make me think.

is there a thumbs down gremlin running amok?

  • mac error code [-61] means what exactly?

unfortunately we use quark nearly exclusively here at work and i often get error code [-61] when i'm trying to save a file to the server. i then have to do a "save as" and replace in order to save changes. then after that, there's a corrupt quark file left in the folder as well with some big long name, tho not the name of the original file. also unfortunately, i seem to be the only one in my group having this problem, and sometimes it takes two or three times of "save as" and to different places before it will actually save.

i know that the [-61] code is: "write permissions error; not a publisher," but what the heck does that mean? how can i keep this from happening?

any help is appreciated; our IS dept doesn't have any mac guys even tho half the company uses macs! and outside support is only for "really serious matters;" because i can get around it with a "save as," it's not deemed serious. that's management for you!

    thanks in advance!

  • know of any good outdoor, rustic cat trees?

my cats are bored in my rather lack-lustre backyard and i'd like to get them a cat tree that's suited for the outdoors (rain and all). i've seen some okay ones at Cat's Play, using real tree branches/logs for the posts, but they also have carpet on them, which is not so good for outside. Armarkat has a nice all wood one, too, but it's straight up-and-down, with no cubbies or limbs branching out

i'd like something with the perches/cubbies covered in all sisal or canvas. i probably could just replace the carpet on one of the others with the sisal or canvas, but they're expensive enough as it is for me to want to spend more money just to get what i want.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks!

  • anyone in Portland, OR know where i can buy lemongrass herb plants?

i've heard that lemongrass herb plants in pots on the deck may help keep mosquitos away. don't know if it's true, and would like to try it out, but i haven't been able to find any plants or seeds in the few places i've looked.

anyone know who might carry them?

    thanks in advance!!

  • isn't the baby jesus not supposed to appear in the creche until christmas day?

i always thought that nativity scenes didn't include the baby jesus figure until christmas day because he hadn't been born yet. i seem to remember this from childhood, yet the little guy's been in every manger setting i've seen this month. anyone else ever do it this way?

  • will i have to pay tax on it?

i recently split with my boyfriend and am moving out of our house. he bought out my "half" and paid me in cash. unfortunately, my name was never on the title, so i've never been legally listed as co-owner of the house. i used the cash to put a down-payment on another house. in the financial papers for the mortgage company, the source of the money was listed as a "gift."

will i have to pay taxes on the cash "gift" ?

    thanks in advance!

  • 2006 jeep wrangler yellow engine light on?

i've got a 2006 jeep wrangler and noticed yesterday that the yellow engine-shaped light has come on. i'm only 12 days over my next three-month oil change and there're only 2600 miles on the vehicle. can anyone tell me what the light being on means?

normally, i'd check the owner's manual, but i'm packing for a move and i don't know which box my owner's manual is in!

i appreciate any help you all can give.

    thank you!!

    p.s. happy thanksgiving!

  • please help!! can i paint over an existing, unprimed paint job?

i just pulled off some of the beaten up trim in my kitchen (the previous owner's dog chewed it up good!) to replace and discovered that (i think) the paint just peels right off! the surface of the wall (and the back of the peeled off paint strips) is kind of dusty and powdery (kind of like plaster that hasn't been sealed yet).

does this, indeed, mean that the walls were never primed? and if so, can i primer over the existing paint job and paint my new color, or do i have to pull off all of the old paint, then primer and then paint?

i realize everyone now knows i'm lazy, but it's a big kitchen and i need to finish this job quickly (company coming!!). however, with that said, i'll do it if it's the only way to ensure a lasting and good looking paint job.

i'd really appreciate any advice and suggestions. thanks in advance!!
