  • If I say: "It is difficult to find someone of my persuasion.", is it clear to you what that means?

For example, if someone asked me if I had ever gone out with anyone, would that response be clear?

    What is your interpretation?

  • Instructors requiring attendance contracts?

It has always bothered me when instructors ask you to sign their syllabus. I have always felt extremely uncomfortable signing documents for a class. I find it unnecessary and unprofessional.

I haven't had to take a 100 level class in a while. I decided to take Spanish, and our instructor is requiring that students sign an attendance contract. The attendance policy does not differ from the Universities already existing policy, which I find reasonable.

How can I explain to the instructor that I find this unnecessary and uncomfortable? Parts of me feel like I should just bite the bullet and deal with it. The instructor is great; I just hate seeing this kind of thing in the classroom.

  • Car Choices for the College Student: Buick or Subaru?

    Hey,

I'm looking for a car before I go off to university. Needs descent gas mileage and the ability to drive a good distance as well as handle cold weather and snow.

I've had two come across that I feel safe narrowing down to, but they are very different,.

One is a 1990/1989 Buick (a La Sabre, or something like that). Gets about 25MPG. Not sure if it has anitlock. Front wheel drive. $200 (a price anyone could love).

The other is a 1991 Subaru Legacy (Coupe style). 4-wheel drive (a huge plus), has antilock, about the same gas mileage. $1,900.

My problem: The Subaru is all-around the best car for winter driving, which is why there are so many Subarus here in Eastern Washington. They have a good reputation for winter driving.

Efficiency wise, the Buick and Subaru match. Both are fully capable of distance driving. Where I get lost is that the Buick is $200 and the Subaru is $1,900...

  • Where can I get propranolol for music performance?

This is the sketchiest question I have ever asked.

Propranolol is used by many musicians as a way of blocking the reaction of adrenalin (it is a beta-blocker) thus removing the effects of stage fright (shaking hands, irregular breathing, sweating, &etc.) Of course, propranolol is really for people with heart problems.

Stage fright is something I have a major problem with when it comes to playing solos. I have come close to catastrophes where I've nearly lost control of all my playing.

Do doctors prescribe propranolol for this reason? Is it something that requires a prescription? Where can I get it?

Looking for objective answers that have to do with what I asked. Please don't answer "I don't know", or I'll just report it as unhelpful.

  • Can bread dough with yeast be refrigerated?

I don't have enough time to make bread tonight, so tomorrow in the morning I was thinking I'd do the dough and stick it in the refrigerator, then bake the bread later tomorrow evening in time for a potlatch.

Does bread dough that had yeast in it refrigerate fine? I'll kneed and rise the dough and all that, then refrigerate, then bake a few hours later. Will this work?

    Thanks much!

(My cornbread, which I was going to bring, turned out absolutely AWFUL! So bread is my backup...)

  • Should I write to the Dean of Academic Instruction if I am disappointing in a class?

I have been taking an English 201 level class at a community college in Washington State. I have been extremely disappointed with the quality of the class. The first week and a half were spent doing remedial English review, the kinds of things you learn in a 97 level class. Now, all we do are one paper a week and weekly group presentations. The instructor has done no instruction on writing. The group presentations are a joke -- we write a paper on an essay we all read as a group, and read it out loud in front of the class and present a piece of "artwork" related to the essay we read.

I can't say that I've learned anything useful. We are now half way through the quarter and nothing has improved.

At the same time, I am kind of relieved since I have an overload of credits and this has been an easy class.

Would it be a good idea to write my thoughts to the Dean of Academic Instruction? I don't want the teacher in trouble, he's a great guy and easy to get along with. At the same time, I paid good money for this class and I don't feel that I'm gaining the skills that were described for an English 201 level class.

  • What is chord quality?

I was doing a chord ID sheet (anatomy of a chord type stuff) and I came across "Chord Quality Identification"/

    Example questions on this are:

"D7th Chords are what quality" or "G7th Chords are what quality?"

What does quality mean in this case?

    Major/Minor, perhaps?

  • What is the difference between Heraclitus and Parmenides over becoming/being?

Just a short answer, I don't need an essay, I'd like the main idea. Studying for a test, I wasn't sure about this one.

Also, what are the Stoic/Epicurean arguments for why there is no life after death?

  • What are some questions you might ask a person running for Student senate Secretary position during an forum?

I am running for the secretary position for my colleges student senate.

For this, I must participate in a public forum. What are some questions you might ask someone running for the same position I am?

And, on the side, I also must give a speech. What talking points do you think would be good for a secretary? ("Making the world better one less typing mistake at a time" sounds good to me, but perhaps not to others...)

Thank you all for your help!

  • What can you do with friends besides play video games?

I was by no means raised normally.

I do not like watching movies or playing video games, except old movies. Yes, I have tried watching new movies with friends and playing video games with friends, it is not any more fun to me.

I have gone geocaching with one of my friends a few times, that was fun.

What are other things you can do with friends, besides just talk?

  • Name of a Movie: Color, Sound, 1930's, it's about a lady who had led poisoning.?

    Hello!

I had a really great movie which is now in the public domain but I deleted it (most probably on accident).

I would like to find it again. Here is what I remember to the best of my ability:

The movie was in color, had sound, and I believe it was filmed in the 1930's -- possibly the 40's (yes, color film did exist in the 30's..)

It is about a young woman who lived in the country in a very small town. She had received news from her doctor of certain death from lead poisoning, and was dying (or so they thought).

A news reporter travels to the town, discovers the story of this lady, and comes up with a great news idea: Bring her to New York and show her off.

Shortly before leaving, the woman gets word from her doctor finding out that she is actually healthy, and the first diagnosis was incorrect. The news reporter not knowing this, they continue on to their adventure.

The woman is dazzled as she is flown in by plane to the big city. Colors, lights, sounds -- all very new to her. New York falls in love with her.

As this scheme gets carried farther and farther away, the lady and the reporter begin to fall in love.

The reporter, not knowing she is now faking, manage to get his publisher to hire a team of the leading radiation experts who will, should they be able to check her out, discover her lies.

From here, I can not remember if she staged her death or attempted suicide.

The movie ends on a ship, her and the reporter together -- undercover so as not to be found.

Thank you for your assistance and for reading my lengthly description!

  • Hammond organ has a console volume control and auxiliary volume control, but we can't find the auxiliary jack!?

It's either a model B or E, but I am not positive. The two volume controls are under the bottom preset keys on the left side, and there is a switch to go to Console, Console and Aux, Aux.

But, where is the axillary jack?

Thanks! If you don't know the answer, then don't be a smart-<word>, just don't answer the question. I don't need to know that you did not know the answer.

  • Does Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas need a CD Key?

I am considering buying GTA: San Andreas used on eBay, the seller's item description said it has no manual or the original case, but is the original disc. Upon asking if he had the CD key as well, I was told: "as far as I know it don't need key".

    Is this accurate?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Looking for a song, La De Da De Dae?

It is not in English. I heard it in Thailand a while back.

    It really went:

La de da de dae, Oh ah Oh (repeat) (repeat) followed by a short verse.

It is a very up-beat song.

And, please, no "I don't know" or "LOL!" answers. I report uses who waste time that way.

  • Looking for a specific book?

The plot went something like this:

A ship full of pirates kidnap a group of kids. Later on, tables turn and the kids become the evildoers, and the pirates are the ones who want escape. The point of the book is to show how cruel children can be on their own.

This book was discussed on NPR earlier this year (during the Winter, I think)

Anyone know the title, and author as well (if you know it)

Note: Reply with "I don't know" and I will report you. That's just poor quality help.

  • Washington State Drivers License Test. What questions do they ask on the test? Anyone remember?

Hello. I am wondering (this is what some people call a brain dump) Anyone who has taken a Washington State Driver Knowledge test, how many of you remember the questions asked on the test? What were the questions? I am wondering what areas I should focus on studying. Oregon and Idaho most likely have similar questions for their tests, if anyone remembers those, please post them as well.

I need to make an exact backup copy of a disk that is fully functional. I have tried many applications that claim to do this, however, getting around the disk protection has been an issue. I know the disk uses a version of SafeDisk.
