  • Spay/Neuter issues within family. Any advice please?

I have some family members that had 2 Brittney dogs. Now as a result of BYBing they have 4. Their female had her first litter last November, a HUGE litter of 10 puppies. They could not get rid of all the puppies and decided to keep the last 2 pups. So now they have 3 unaltered males and the female running around unspayed.

I also have other family members that have 2 dogs same breed, and are trying to force the 2 to have a litter...makes my stomach turn.

I have tried on several occasions to start a conversation about fixing the dogs. And every time there is some ridiculous reason for them not doing it. ESPECIALLY when talking about neutering the males. I get looks like I am less than humane when I talk about the neuters.

This is killing me because I work in an animal shelter and I know how many of those beautiful puppies they had will most likely end up in a shelter, or worse. I get angry because I know how they are contributing to the ridiculous pet over population problem that is already out there.

I do not even go over to their home anymore, because I cannot stand to see the situation. It is too painful.

I have even given them literature from Spay USA....and they treat ME like the moron. They know I work in a shelter, and the crap I see on a daily basis and how it affects me.

Do I continue to try and educate these people, or am I losing the fight to save lives of future litters and the shelter dogs?

  • What breed do you think my dog is?

We adopted him as a puppy, and were told that he may be Australian Shepherd/Pit bull mix.

We do not care either way, I have always been curious though as to what other people thought he might be.

We are thinking of doing a DNA test just for fun.

The first picture is when he was a pup, the day we brought him home.

He is now about 55 lbs. and about 2 1/2 feet at the shoulder.

  • Do you regret declawing your cat?

I have two cats, one declaw, one with claws.

I declawed my older cat years ago before I educated myself on the declaw procedure and the risks and problems associated with declawing. I just thought that was what everyone who had a house cat did.

    I now regret that decision.

I also work in an animal shelter and see so many cats who are complete declaws (all four feet declawed). *shudder*

I just wonder if anyone else regrets declawing their cat, the way I do.

  • Reflux and coughing, how do they relate?

I started with a cough about 5 days ago, went to my Dr. and she says she believes that it is acid reflux. Prescribed Prilosec to be taken 30 min before dinner time.

I want to know how coughing and reflux relates. Any answers?
