  • Same-sex marriage good - Polygamy bad?

It seems that many who argue in favor of same-sex marriage are the same who argue against polygamy.

Does anybody notice this, or even have a rational explanation for what makes one alternative between adults OK and another alternative between adults bad?

Please note that I won't be offended in any case since I do not have or seek a same-sex spouse or additional wives. I simply seek to understand the contradiction.

  • Why did Jimmy Carter Lie?

Jimmy Carter claimed that his meeting with Hamas resulted in some degree of compromise, but in fact it only legitimized terrorist tactics.

Hamas has stated that Carter's claims about the result of the meeting were false.

Why did Jimmy Carter feel the need to lie about Hamas supposedly accepting Israel's right to exist?

Furthermore, is there any provision such that lifetime Secret Service protection is waived when a former president behaves so recklessly for no particular reason, needlessly risking the lives of agents?

  • It's a Recession?

A recession, as I understand it is 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth.

    We have not had one.

Why are people so eager to say we are in a recession?

  • The Motorcycle Diaries II?

Will Robert Redford produce "The Motorcycle Diaries II", detailing the later years of the icon Che Guevara?

The first picture was very sweet, but didn't really explain how such a nice guy wound up being called, "The Butcher of La Cabaña".

Maybe the long motorcycle ride and sorrowful images of poor people were enough to inspire the che to become a cold-blooded murderer. Even to the extent that shooting a pregnant woman in the stomach or executing an innocent 14 year old boy made sense.

Oh, come on folks. People would be outraged by an Adolph Hitler t-shirt, but many don't bat an eye at t-shirts of che. Is it because we don't learn Cuban history in school?

  • Hope for Change?

I hear that Obama is all about hope and change. That is swell.

Does anybody know of a specific change that Obama would make that would be beneficial to our country?

Remember, change can mean anything. There was a lot of change in Europe in the early 20th century and a lot of people were very excited about it. Hope and change. Great.

Wouldn't it make sense to think through 'change' so that we don't repeat the mistakes of the past such as those implemented under well-intentioned, dynamic, man-of-the-people types like Jimmy Carter?

  • Chavez - Dictator for Life. Who is surprised?

Is anybody surprised to see Socialism unfolding in Venezuela just as it has every time before?

It is only a matter of time until some of the unwilling slaves to the collective; enemies of the state; start turning up in mass graves.

Will people open their eyes about the reality of socialism then?

  • Did you know before reading this?

I am genuinely curious, so please be honest.

Does anybody know that modern liberals in the United States are absolutely not liberals?

A liberal is a rational person who believes in natural rights and a free economy.

A liberal is one who would advocate less government control of people's income, business ventures, reproduction and even smoking one thing or another.

Liberty is a natural state. Government does not provide liberty. Government is a necessary evil that should be prevented from taking liberty willy-nilly.

Many Republicans prefer to forfeit liberty to make the country look and act in ways they are comfortable with and Democrats, generally mislabeled as 'liberals', are downright abusive of the natural rights of citizens, except when it comes to abortion or pot.

Had anybody heard of classical liberals before and does anybody else cringe when they hear anti-liberty zealots referred to as 'liberals'?

  • A Right to Health Care?

With all the talk about a 'right to health care', does anybody wonder what that really means?

Health care is the product of somebody's labor.

There was a time in the world when some thought they had a 'right' to the labor of others, but that was supposed to have become unacceptable.

I can not claim the right to the labor of people to work on a plantation any more that I can claim the right to the labor of a person working in health care. Further, I have no inherent right to claim the labor of taxpayers for my wants or needs.

I have a natural right to life, liberty and property which is not granted by the government. It is a natural right. The government is supposed to be prevented from taking it away from me by the Constitution.

Who thinks they have a right to health care and if so, what makes that different from claiming a right to slaves?

"You chose the winning script in our Roadblock Republican Radio Contest. Now, it's up to you to air it."

    [...]

"So go here to make a contribution and turn up the heat on the Roadblock Republicans."

"Only you can guarantee that this heartfelt, powerful message - this script from Edwin Walker in Tennessee - gets heard by voters and gets through to the Roadblock Republicans:"

Does it sound like somebody is trying to coin and promote a bumper-sticker phrase to make excuses for the fact that the democrat controlled Congress has done nothing that they promised during the campaign season?

Can you think of any other bumper-sticker slogans?

How about "Dead-end Democrats" or "Shell-game Senators"?

  • Are iPod Commercials Realistic?

Why is it that iPod commercials and others like it show people dancing around in the street, but in real life, the only people who do so are hobos, winos and junkies?

Do the hobos, winos and junkies start out as hip, cool kids and become hobos, winos and junkies because they were dancing around instead of getting a job, or are hobos, winos and junkies the only ones who actually think it is cool to dance around in the street?

I guess a third option would be that I just don't recognize hobos, winos and junkies as cool, hip people, but I don't think so. The lady I just saw dancing around with her iPod smelled very much like a public restroom. Is there some cool new perfume on the market I haven't heard of? 'Eu de toilet'?

  • Prevalence of racism in Socialism?

According to Joseph Goebbels in "Those Damned Nazis"...

"What does the Jew have to do with socialism? Socialism has to do with labor. When did one ever see him working instead of plundering, stealing and living from the sweat of others? As socialists we are opponents of the Jews because we see in the Hebrews the incarnation of capitalism, of the misuse of the nation's goods."

    http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/haken32.htm

Then, according to Karl Marx in "On The Jewish Question"

"Once society has succeeded in abolishing the empirical essence of Judaism – huckstering and its preconditions – the Jew will have become impossible, because his consciousness no longer has an object, because the subjective basis of Judaism, practical need, has been humanized, nd because the conflict between man’s individual-sensuous existence and his species-existence has been abolished."

  • Who wrote the following...?

...regarding ways to prevent environmental catastrophe due to an impending population explosion.

In a chapter entitled "What You Can Do", under the heading "Proselytizing Friends and Associates" and the subheading "Target is a Schoolteacher":

"It will be easy for you to convince most schoolteachers that the population problem is very real. They have been struggling with overcrowded classrooms and ghetto children for a long time."

"They are under the thumb of school boards that are all too often opposed to the teaching of anything socially important in school."

"Those subjects should be 'taught at home'. The parents of the children are, of course, usually hopelessly incompetent to teach any of these subjects"

"Subtle propaganda to the kiddies and letter writing is about all you can ask for. But do ask for that."

A hint. This author is currently a professor at Stanford University and was an influence of Al Gore's.
