  • Advice request: Placo, other or none?

I have an establish 10G tank. It has 6 cherry barbs (one is a baby). Tank is "full" according to 1 inch/Gallon rule.

Problem. Been getting some brown algae. I've been cleaning it with brush and water changes ...however, been thinking of adding an algae-eater to help my cause.

Petstore suggested a Placo. (all they had was large & medium)

I would rather have something smaller if I had to have one.

Should I get a placo? some other algae eating fish? or just leave as is and clean it?

Where does Brown Algae come from ... is it different then green algae?

  • Turn filter off when feeding ???

When feeding fish do you turn off the filter so the flakes stay at the top of the tank longer?

  • drippy bathroom pop-up stopper from Delta Faucets?

A friend of mine bought a Delta faucet assembly.

The installed Pop-up Stopper leaks so she called for a replacement. They fed her the following information:

First Call: She was told that her bathroom sink needed to have 6 inches of water in order to have enough pressure to cause a full stoppage of water.

She got home and tried this. Apparently it was a challenge to get the 6 inches because it lets a lot of water pass, but no stoppage occured

Second Call: Told that in the year 2000 an international law was passed which says that a stopper is not suppose to stop ... just slow to prevent overflow. There is a hole in the back of the sink for this; but apparently that isn't good enough.

Can anyone say if ANY of this garbage is true and if so possibly provide the proof.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Does aged water need de-chlorinating?

If my understanding is correct ... Aged water is letting your water sit out so harmful chemicals and metals can disolve from the water before adding the potential hazards to the fish tank.

So should I still use the decholorinating stuff I bought from the pet store? Maybe only with large water changes? or will all water changes?
