Hello,

I am wondering if anyone could recommend me a device that will allow my grandmother to automatically call a designated emergency number in case of emergency.

The device should be worn around the wrist or around the neck and feature nothing more than a simple button.

The device should use a GSM network to call up a designated number.

Ideally it should also allow for direct two-way communication but this is not mandatory (should function like a panic button/alarm).

If you also know something like this that could also monitor vital functions, that would be great too.

I am considering buying one of these low-fat friers, but I'm not sure which one is it.

I've heard that on Tefal Actifry the lid is a real issue, prone to cracking.

On the other hand, the AirFryer requires to manually shake the frieds in order to get even (also smaller capacity than the Actifry).

Can users of the two share how real and annoying are these issues with the two?

It is a simple attempt at using WinSock for creating a multithreading server in C++.

However, whenever I try to compile, I get this error (regardless of compiler, Visual C++ Express 2010, mingW, etc):

This question is related to what happens when someone removes me from their list.

Basically I noticed that I stopped receiving updates from one of my friends. I suspect he removed from the list (he had reason, so did I - but I didn't remove him in return). I know that I shouldn't have gotten a notification and I didn't but what I need to know is this:

- what happens to wall updates since I have him in the list but he doesn't have me? I don't get his updates, but is he getting mine?

I have recently switched from PC to Mac and I found myself with 2 external drives formatted as NTFS which I was using under Vista. Since Snow Leopard can't work with NTFS (read-only), I need a way to non-destructively convert those NTFS drives to something which Mac can work with (FAT32 would be good since then I could use them regardless of system, but I am open to filesystem suggestions).

I believe Partition Magic can do that under Windows. Are there any Mac tools also?

A few months back I acquired a Fujitsu HandyDrive of 200Gb (MMD2200UB). The drive works perfectly when connected to a Vista system but under XP SP3, the Add New Hardware wizard prompts me for a driver (otherwise the drive won't work).

To complicate the matter, Fujitsu has sold their HDD division to Toshiba and while the Fujitsu support site directs me to Toshiba, the Toshiba site mentions only warranty rights (no trace of driver information).

The only help I could pull out from Toshiba was a suggestion to delete the driver cache from XP (which I have done), but with no results whatsoever.

Is there anyone here that could suggest a better solution?

Any help in this direction will be much appreciated as I retailers here in my country (Romania) will only get it in November and none of them offer the discounts that Microsoft or Amazon do.

I need some help with the IRC protocol.

I'm trying to build a small irc client in Java, but the registration part of the protocol is a bit of a mistery.

The RFC states that prior to any commands, I must send this sequence of commands: PASS, NICK and USER.

In my program, I opened the proper streams which work and I sent the three sequentially but the server still says I'm not registered when I try send commands.

What I did is this:

writer.println("PASS test");

writer.flush();

writer.println("NICK Myself");

writer.flush();

writer.println("USER Myself test | localhost");

writer.flush();

Can someone give me an example of proper registration sequence?

a spot appears in the viewfinder. Where could it be from? The sensor and lens are clean, the spot doesn't appear in the photo when I take one.
