My sister is 53 years old and was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer five years ago. For years the cancer was controlled by chemo alone and she never had surgery to remove the cancer. The chemo caused the tumor to shrink and for five years lived a fairly normal life.

Over the past several months her blood markers had been going up each time she went to chemo. Consequently, her oncologist increased how often she went. Soon after she began getting sever sores in her mouth and acid indigestion so bad she could not stand it and nothing the doctor prescribed for the indigestion helped. Shortly, after she began vomiting everything she ate and could not keep anything down including liquids. She was admitted to a local (small town) hospital. Her potassium was very low. They kept her for a few days went into her stomach with a scope and found that the hole in the bottom of her stomach was very small, so they went back in and enlarged it. The next day the nurses gave her complete meals and she was thrilled to eat because she had not ate in so long. The doctor was very upset, but said oh well, what can we do now? They stabilized her potassium and sent her home. The next day she passed out in the shower because she was so weak

Obviously, she was not well and was not in any condition to be home. We took her to another hospital they admitted her and did every test you can imagine. They could not find anything in her stomach or to indicate the cancer had spread and did not find any blockage, tumor etc. They came to the conclusion that she has gastric paralysis. They changed her chemo and started her in an iv nutrients and suggested they would like her to go to the Cleveland Clinic (as it is only 2 hrs. away) however the clinic is a busy place and has a waiting list so in the interim she was placed in a rehabilitation center. There she continued on the nutrients and small amounts of food that she was able to keep down. During her stay she was sent to the Cleveland Clinic on for several visits to for testing. One test she had to eat an egg sandwich while they did some type of xray hourly for several hours and the other test she had to drink a liquid and they xrayed her hourly as well. The results came back that the gastric paralysis was very advanced. She had an appointment to see a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic who is one of very few doctors to do the surgery she will need. During this time she was slowly taken off the iv and put on Boost dietary supplement. She was able to hold this down with small portions of food. She waited six weeks in a rehab center and after week 5 her lung collapsed. She was sent to University of Toledo Medical Center and had lung surgery that involved staples. After a week or so she was sent back home. Her appointment at the Cleveland Clinic to meet with the surgeons was cancelled as she was told not to travel immediately after the surgery. As should she be involved in an accident her lungs are not strong enough to survive. She cannot get in to see this surgeon until mid-November.

After being home for a week she started vomiting and had a lot of pressure on her lungs. Went back to the local hospital she started with they kept her for 3 days and sent her home. I do not know what they could do that as she cannot even keep Boost down. They did however, put in several calls to the Cleveland Clinic asking them to expedite her appointment, but no luck. Now my sister is staying with my Mom and she is having a horrible time because she can’t hold down anything. I just feel like we are against a wall. Where do we go from this point? She will never hold out until mid-November. Today is 10/10.

This is a complete nightmare. In spite of all this she still has managed to keep her weight at 128 lbs. Please help us, we don’t know what to do. I can be reached at jimandstacy@hotmail.com and welcome any and all advice. Thank you.

I feel so far from him and I have a family that needs him. This constant struggle to find the right religion has put a wedge between us and him.

My husband and I were both raised Catholic and have not attended church in awhile. We are both divorced and do not do not feel welcome by the Catholic Church. Also with the recent event's regarding child molestation, we definately want to find a new religion. We have two teenage daughters and a baby with some disabilities. We both feel so disconnected from God and our girls are starting to do things that we are very disturbed by. We both want to turn back to God and are looking for a good church/faith. While I like the more contemporary friends type church, he likes the more traditional and I miss some of the traditional as well. I feel like this entire thing is so confusing and has just pushed us away from God more and more each day. We are looking for all the help we can get and need suggestions for a good church. Also looking for advice on how to get closer to God. I am even starting to doubt his existance and that makes me sick. Thank you.

I am looking for a nice hotel that is within walking distance to Boston Childrens Hospital. I have a 5 month old daughter that is having a major operation and we will be staying for 10 days. So we are looking for something very reasonable.
