Is there a wiring issue with my dryer?
Just moved into a new apartment, which included a washer and dryer. Every third time I turned on the dryer, a spark would fly (sometimes near the outlet, sometimes from the spiral wire of the vent line to one of the basement window latches, etc.), and the dryer would stop. I re-started it once and it gave me a shock right through the start button. That was enough for me. Figuring it was a faulty dryer, I went and bought another newer one. Installed it today. And on the second attempt, another spark, from the vent line to the latch on the basement window, and on the third start another spark in the vicinity of the outlet.
I am not very knowledgeable on household wiring, but could this be an issue with the outlet itself? The dryer and outlet are the 3-prong type (i.e. -120, +120 and neutral - which is grounded to the dryer frame.)
Any ideas on what the problem could be? I would have thought the landlord would have had these things looked over, but maybe not...
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWill I be ticketed for expired registration?
I have a weird situation. I am a US citizen, and have recently moved from Florida to Ontario, where I now work and live. My car was last registered in Florida, and has Florida plates. However, that registration expired last Spring. I have no residence in Florida anymore, and no plans to go back there. My time in Canada is considered "semi-permanent", with the idea that I will move back, somewhere, into the USA in another few years. Based on this information, the Canadian customs folks advised me not to bother registering my car in Ontario.
I do spend a bit of time driving in New York State and of course lots of driving in Ontario. I have yet to be pulled over for any infraction, but I suppose it is only a matter of time.
My question is, if I am pulled over, will an Ontario cop ticket me for an expired Florida registration? How about a New York trooper? I do not feel that there is justification for registering my car in any state or province, at this time.
8 AnswersInsurance & Registration1 decade agoWhat's the best way to handle car insurance, for an American on temporary assignment in Canada?
I am an American citizen and will be working in Canada for 1-2 years. My car is registered and (currently) insured in Florida. I'm not sure if there's anything special I should do, and whether my car insurance company will take care of me, should I have an accident in Canada.
