What's a good initial drum to buy 4 using @ drum circles & jamming w/friends playing guitar/other instrument
i was wondering about these points:
1. about the suggested size of the drum...like the diameter of the head
2. material of drum
3. do you think that it's better to get a head that has the screwed adjusting or whatever you call it rather than trying to tune/keep the skin tight by the traditional kind of strings that i have seen or other ways
one of my friends had this youth's 10'' djembe that was for like 50-60something dollars online made by remo. ..i thought this might be a good first drum to have out of several that one might own because of it's portability even though you can't tune the head...it just has some strap of fabric and i don't know how it is fastened to the body.
1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoDo you think people in the US read/heard about the asterix comic series/movie?
A friend of mine from Europe said they couldn't believe I had never heard of the Asterix comic series or comic books. I don't think people in the U.S. well, in the S.E. of the U.S. grow up with that. Am I wrong in this assumption?
5 AnswersComics & Animation1 decade agoIf U live in the US do U or someone U know eat like Europeans-never putting down your knife-always use both?
My friend from Europe gave me a hard time while visiting there not long ago about not knowing to use both my fork and knife all the time while eating. They said that everyone knows to do that and why didn't I do that. I told them that we don't eat like that in the US. Well, at least in the S.E. of the U.S. They didn't believe me and said I must be stupid or something.
6 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoShould I buy a basic Mac laptop or Mac Pro laptop for running the following apps (see extra note below)?
I'm starting a graduate program in instructional design.
They will mainly use Adobe's Studio Suite (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks).
Money is an issue; but, if the Mac Pro is worth it, then perhaps the answer is yes for the Pro.
I do have a desktop PC with a pretty good graphics card, and memory. But, I was also considering buying a Mac laptop (even though I've only used the Mac a couple of times).
I would like to ask you if you think it would be necessary to buy a Mac Pro laptop to run the above applications (and perhaps pay extra for a faster hard drive 7200rpm and 17" screen or just the basic screen and hard drive? because I've read somewhere that a faster hard drive is better for running graphics, audio, and video); or would I do just as well with their basic Mac laptop and LCD screen?
Of course, the Mac Pro is much more than the basic Mac laptop, so this is why I need to find out if it's necessary.
Thanks
3 AnswersDrawing & Illustration1 decade agoIs there a way to attach a text file with an audio file; like a podcast and it's transcript?
I would like to be able to search through all of my podcasts on my computer like they do at the podzinger.com through various website searches. I want to have this kind of search function on my computer. So, I figured if I could use one of those free online sites that converts your audio file to text, then if I somehow attached it to the audio podcasts, then I could use a desktop search engine to find and see the relationships (like with mindmaps) between the audio files.
1 AnswerOther - Computers1 decade agoCan lightly vacuuming interior computer cables & fans hurt the motheboard (like static electric discharge)?
In the past I've used a combo method of getting rid of dust inside my desktop computer with: air can, and vacuuming using the brush extension at the end. I've been told that you need a special electronic vacuum to do this because a regular vacuum can discharge static buildup (or something like that). A friend told me that he always uses a regular vacuum. So I tried it and didn't really make direct contact with the mother board, but just used it over the cables, power supply, case walls, and the heat sink fan over the CPU. I would use the air can to blow off dust on the motherboard itself. So, whadda ya think? If I do it this way, will I still risk messing up the computer, and therefore should buy one of those "mini vacuums" instead? Because the blower can doesn't get rid of the dust. It just blows it somewhere else within the case and on the surrounding floor.
9 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoIn WinXP, how to configure the internet download option to show the folder you've downloaded it to?
I changed this option a while back to just close the downloading window after downloading a file, rather than the default setting to be able to either open the downloaded file or go to the chosen folder I saved it in. Now I can't seem to find where to change back to the default setting :(
1 AnswerInternet1 decade agoDo you know of a website showing how to install kitchen cabinet handles (like 30 handles-lining them up, etc.)
I have a total of 30 cabinet doors and drawers in my kitchen that need handles. I was told by a friend to make sure you line up all the handle positions first before drilling. I can think of just putting up two sets of string to do this; but thought there might be some instructions online somewhere that are more clever.
3 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoIs there a way to connect a USB thumb drive or SD card to an MP3 player that doesn't have an SD card slot?
This player only has "fixed" or "internal" memory. I was wondering if there was a way to connect more memory to the player via its USB port/connector (usually used to connect to the computer with a USB cable).
3 AnswersMusic & Music Players1 decade agoAnyone know of an electronica music coach or links to one?
(i would pay of course) I'm not talking about just learning how to do "production" (there are lots of books about that). I'm talking about that, and the coach helping me through tutorials/exercises (whatever method they can think of) to learn how to make electronica music (I guess you could use the terms-arranging/composing. But I'm talking about learning to arrange loops, samples, live recordings, to create a song using things like sequencing, sampling, loops, and MIDI- not writing down musical notes for a symphony-so i don't know what to really call it). You know, how to create a song (styles such as-experimental ambient, chill, trance, ect.) and to help me develop my skills.

Could you all share with me your thoughts, experience, and or links to articles about the pro's and con's to buying an extra hard drive or using DVD-data burning software to back up audio, audio projects (like acid, soundforge, or cakewalk projects) video, and text files (don't want to fool with RAID though)?

2 AnswersOther - Electronics2 decades agoWhy can't friend's 3 different dvd players display/read pictures burned onto a dvd+r with jpeg pics?
One of her 3 dvd players even said that it could read dvd+r. I made a "data dvd" using Sonic-Record Now software. The pics are not in a folder on the dvd either.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics2 decades agoCould I have a health problem if I sometimes get very tired after eating?
I know overeating and the L-Tryptophan Effect (like after eating turkey) can cause one to get tired. Any other things that might be a sign of a health problem due to getting tired after one eats? I don't smoke or drink, and I'm in my mid-thirties (white male).
