  • Should college kids have any financial responsibility?

20 year old son, lives at home, does not work (gets summer jobs only and uses this money for "recreation and fun") has everything paid for... room, board, groceries, gym membership, cell phone, car, insurance etc. He is a good kid, stays out of trouble, helps around the house "if asked" (otherwise would sit around all day and watch TV or just do things he wants to do). He is taking 12-15 hour semesters at a local college. His father and I do NOT see eye to eye on how to raise him to be a successful young adult. I think he should be learning how the real world works now. His dad feels he should not have to pay for anything or work till he is out of college as long as he is a "good" kid and stays out of trouble!! I worked 2-3 jobs through undergrad and got loans I paid off; on my own through grad school. I think this taught me to responsible with my money. I already see the 20 year old son does not understand money issues. He even has Daddy pay for his dates!!! I try to talk to my husband about this but he will not budge. Suggesitons? Am I totally off base here? This is really causing issues with me and my spouse and I don't know what to do.

  • 19 year old, no job.?

My 19 year old son was given ultimatums to follow rules in our home (simple rules), he chose not to do that and moved out. Problem is he moved in with my grandmother (his GREAT-grandmother). She provides eveything for him, money, food, shelter.. ect. He refuses to get a job, goes to school but barely makes passing grades, has no rules to speak of (his college is also paid for). We cannot convince greatgranmother to kick him out or give any rules. She "refuses to put him on the street". We try to convince her that he cannot learn to be a self supporting man if she continues to enable him, but she does not view it that way. She is in her late 80's and in very poor declining health. I am furious that my son is taking advantage of her excessive kindness. HELP, what can I do? I no longer pay for anything for him, I cut him off long ago.

  • HELP!!! Falsely Accused of Assault/Battery?

I was recently having a verbal argument with a woman, she grabbed my arm and pushed me. I pushed her away from me and she fell down (she was highly intoxicated) during her fall she got scraped up. After she fell I did nothing else and waited for the police to come. She has now filed A&B charges on me and I have to go to court! There were no witnesses, other than she and I. I had nothing to drink and the police report states she was uncooperative, appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol and was argumentative with them that night. What would most judges do in this situation? I know I did nothing wrong other than defend myself, but nervous about having to go before a judge. Since she is falsley accusing me can I make her pay for my attorney and time off work for court???

  • My husband has life insurace policies and his X-wife is the beneficiary!!?

Their child is over 18, so I don't understand why he still has the life insurance policies in HER name. As his wife I feel like I should be the beneficiary if something were to happen (hopefully it never does). FYI They do not get along at all, hence the divorce. I would NOt want a policy in the name of someone I did NOT get along with.... seems crazy to me.

How's that?? What do I do? He refuses couseling, I have tried and he quits going. He was kicked out of the house for skipping school and not following house rules, he is back now but horrible to live with. He also threatenes to kill me and has an obcession with fire, knives and "dark" things. HELP!

  • My son cannot avoid serious relationships!?

I have a late teen son who constantly gets to emotionally involved with a girl. If he goes out with a girl twice, he thinks he is in love. Then when they split, he can be miserable to be around, depressed and has been suicidal in the recent past. I worry that he defines his self worth as a person by his dating relationships with girls. He also keeps lowering his dating standards, I am assuming this is so that he can be assured they will not leave him. He used to date well mannered Christian, athletic, ambitious, polite girls, he is now dating a morbidly overweight, non-Christian, unattractive, unambitious girl that has on multiple times expressed interest in doing drugs with my son! ( He refused!) HELP!!!! What can I do other then talk to him and try to explain to him this is not a good idea for him emotionally and that he really needs to focus on finding himself and developing his future. I try to get him to just hang out with frinds and focus on school, but no such luck. He used to be involved with school sports and dropped out, his grades have dropped, he never hangs out with his friends, he also used to play music and never does that either. Hi head is so far this girls a$$ his life revolves around her. Our entire network of family and friends are at a loss as to why he is with this girl or why he gets so wrapped up at his young age with ANY girl!

  • Indoor/outdoor cat and moving?

I am moving about 5 miles from where I currently live. My neutered male cat loves to roam and has several secondary "homes on my street". My concern is what to do with him when we move. Will he try to return to our old house or will he stay with our new house? I thought I would keep him inside for at least a week, will that be long enough? He WILL not stay in the house, he escapes outside every chance he gets. Even though he is fixes, he loves to hang out on the back porch and in the flower bed. Save any negative comments about letting my cat outside. He is fixed and stays close to home. I have always had my pets inside, but this guy refuses. I gave up the battle of keeping him inside a long time ago.

  • Large dog / mud room in my house?

I am building a house and want a dog room for my foster and rescue dogs I have. I want to have a soft, water and stain resistant floor option as well as walls that can resist damage (scratching/chewing, etc). Also want access to an out door dog run. It will be air conditioned/heated as it is attached to the house like a mud room, will have a shower. I have a few ideas but would love more. I think I am going to put line-X on the floors and about 6 inches up the walls, on the walls I want to put galvanized steel or aluminum panels like a wains coating to prevent them from scratching the drywall. ANY helpful ideas? They will have beds/toys and all that stuff.... they are my babies!!!

  • DRAMA with my sons girfriends MAMA!!?

I have a 17 year old that is getting out of control... basically a good kid, but grades are falling and he is refusing to follow basic authority and rules. I implement discipline based on his behavior. For instance for each D he has I removed a privilege, cell phone, car, video games, internet. As the grades improve he chooses a privilege to be restored. My sons girlfriends mother oversteps me, if I take his phone away, she gives him one to use, if I take his car away, she calls him and asks him to do things for her knowing that will make him break my rules. This woman's response to my frustration with her is to say "She does not have to follow my rules, she can do what she wants". I am totally frustrated and angry that this woman thinks it is OK to overstep my rules with MY child and do whatever she pleases!! She has NO right to make these decisions with my child, IMO. WHAT can i do.....

  • Adult ONLY reception.?

I know this causes a huge debate with people. So let me give some info. My fiancee and I are older, second marriage and we have teen children. We are having a destination wedding (just us and our kids) and a formal, evening reception back home. This reception will have an open bar. I made that assumption that people will not bring their young kids, but was warned if I did not make it clear the ones you LEAST want to bring their kids will surely show up with them. I am OK with older kids, say 12 and older.... HOW do we accomplish this. Several of my friends with young kids were totally OK with it and want an adult night out, BUT I know some will get peeved!!

Should I be in a hurry or wait it out? Suggestions appreciated. Also would it be recommended to take a cheaper carrier into Florida (Southwest) then take a different carrier to the bahamas> or is that to hard ot organize??

  • I paid off my entire college loan amount this last year. Can I claim that on my taxes some how?

I had a remaining balance over 20K and paid that off this year. The last few years I oculd no longer claim the interest since I have been paying on this loan for the last 8 years. I was hoping that there was some tax credit or incentive you could claim for paying off a salliemae loan!!! Thanks for help!

  • Should I have another child? My son is 17!?

I am 37 and my boyfriend is 41. If we get married and consider getting pregnant, this would be maybe a year from now. We are both in great physical shape and have considered the idea of having another child, but are worried about being "old" parents. Almost everyone that I have talked to that had children as "older parents" really seemed to love it and do not regret their decision. Any input from your personal experience would be helpful! Pros/Cons.
