let's say a pitcher is taken out in the 6th with his team ahead 6 to one. At that point he's the winning pitcher of record, so far. Now, in the 7th and 8th, his team gives up five runs...so the score is now tied...6-6. In the ninth, though, his team comes back with 3 runs. The closer finishes the game. Now I believe the closer gets a save...and the original pitcher who left with a big lead gets the win.
Am I wrong?
