  • Is it appropriate to address a Pastor by first name only?

Let's say the Pastor at the church I attend has a first name of Bill.

I have always called him "Pastor Bill", but he almost always responds in writing as just "Bill". I am expressing my respect for his title, while I get the impression that he is humbly expressing his equality with the congregation.

The congregation is rather casual, and many call him "Pastor Bill" while many others call him "Bill." I suspect that if I asked him directly, he would say that I can use any name I feel comfortable with using. The fact is that I'm not comfortable with either. "Bill" sounds very casual and lacking respect while "Pastor Bill" sounds very formal and lacking familiarity.

Granted, this question isn't of any dire importance but I'm curious for your perspectives.

  • View from heaven?

I've heard people say that they believe a loved one (spouse, brother, friend) who has passed away can look down from heaven and see us (or, usually more particularly: look down to see the person with this belief).

Is there any biblical scripture that supports this? Not Isaiah 65:17, perhaps 2 Corinthians 5:1?, Psalm 85:11? Psalm 23?. There are many accounts of the Lord looking down from heaven and of angels delivering messages from heaven, but mankind is neither God nor angel.

May God bless you in the love of Christ!

  • Non-Christians: What's stopping you?

What is preventing your belief in Jesus Christ?

This is multiple-choice, but a careful explanation is also needed:

    A) I don't know what Jesus Christ did that is so special that I should believe in him.

    B) I think that Jesus Christ contradicts my belief in only 1 God.

    C) I think that my god(s) prescribes the right way for me to live my life.

    D) I don't believe/trust in God.

    E) Other.

The best answer will be selected based on the degree of insight it provides.

  • Christian Halloween?

I'm looking for recommendations for how my wife and I can emphasize Christianity on Halloween night.

We are not looking for Halloween to be a single or special day of reflecting Jesus Christ in our community (for Christ is in every day), but we understand that there will be many families out on Halloween night. It seems like a great opportunity...

We will be asking this same question in fellowship with the church, but I thought that perhaps this audience would have some valuable ideas (perhaps from personal experience).

    Thank you and God bless.
