Silent footsteps

Any disc I put into my Lenovo T60 makes all manner of strange... sort of... stuttering noises while its trying to play (this happens in any of the three players I have installed: Realplayer, Windows media, and Windisc DVD), and only a few actually DO play. Music, dvd's, picture cd's, there doesn't seem to be a pattern, but some work and some don't. Can I get this fixed? Easily/ semi-cheaply?

I know it has something to do with soaking it in tea... but for how long? How much tea?

I put in a nickname of mine for that, and later when I changed it, It told me it changed it, and on the inbox page it has what I want it to be, but whenever I email someone, that nickname shows as the sender (and that'a a touch embarassing). what can I do?
