  • Any way to really block SMS on prepaid Android phone?

I have tried a couple of "Blacklist" applications on my Android phone (Jelly Bean on Galaxy S2x with Telus). Although I don't receive notifications and the text messages do not show up on the regular "Messages" application, Telus still charges me for them which kills the point for me to have a "Blacklist" application.

Is there a known application that truly rejects text messages? I mean, really obliterates them enough for my phone company to not change for them?

  • What's the name of these 80's psychedelic sisters?

Yesterday, I saw the video of "Rain" by "The Cult" and saw these two women dancing in the back. I remember seeing them too in the video "Spirit in the sky" by "Doctor and the Medics".

I think their act name was "The ____ sisters", but I don't remember anything else. I'm curious to know more about them!

  • Black & Decker InfraWave Oven: Are the 2 bottom elements broken?

I've bought a Black & Decker InfraWave Speed Oven and the 2 bottom elements are really not as bright as the top light. Is this normal? Nothing in the manual says they should, but I wonder.

  • What would you do if you'd learn a massive asteroid is to hit Earth?

"Extra! Extra! A giant asteroid will hit the Earth in 3 days to kill an estimated 92% of all humans on it!"

    What do you do?

    1) Go as far away possible from the predicted impact zone (hoping to survive)

    2) Go as close as possible to the predicted impact zone (quick painless death)

    3) Go deep in the ground with food and water to avoid being hit by anything

    4) Go up the air (airplane, chopper, etc.) to avoid being hit by anything (and see it all!)

    5) Commit suicide to die the way you want to die

    6) Nothing (why try to avoid the inevitable!)

  • Is it possible to get a silent acquire from Twain?

I'm working on a C++ project written in MSDev. I need to grab an image from a Twain device, but don't want the "Acquire" window.

On other words, once I know the image is right, I want to get snapshots immediately instead of constantly having to acknowledge a preview window.

  • About to purchase a Piaggio "Fly 50" scooter. Anything bad to say about it?

I've head about its slow acceleration rate, but I think it's normal for 4-stroke scooters, isn't it? Anything else?

    Ps. Yes, my first scooter

  • TGB's R50X or Yamaha BWs - I can't make up my mind. Opinions?

Shopping for a scooter for my teens. Both scooters are 2006 models (still new, not used) and at the exact same price ($2,400 CDN). Good reviews on both.

R50X is so gorgeous next to the BWs, but the BWs fuel consumption is almost half the R50X. From what I've read, the BWs also goes faster than the R50X, but the R50X is quieter than the BWs. Ugh.

    Suggestions? comments? opinions?

  • Weider 90% Protein: Good to easily gain weight?

I'm 39, 5'11 and 140 lbs. I'd like to gain weight, but going to the gym isn't an option for me, and my digestive system won't allow me to eat too many fruits (probably too much acid in them).

I've found this product at my pharmacy: http://www.shopweider.ca/index.php?target=products... and was wondering if it could be right for me. Is this ok even if I don't work out? any other advise?

  • How do I print a greek capital letter Sigma in MFC?

I need to output the greek capital letter Sigma (the rotated 'M'). I see in Windows' "Character Map" tool that it's "U+03A3", so I assume it's Unicode stuff. Great, I have no experience with this.

    I wrote a little Unicode app, trying a wsprintf(Buffer, "%C", 0x3a3), but it doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong? How should I do this? possible to do it without Unicode (preventing me to change 1000 lines in code in the process *grin*)

  • Why does the vacuum motor go faster when we block the intake?

My daughter asked me yesterday and I wasn't able to answer. Logically, shouldn't it go slower since it has trouble sucking up air?

  • 8800GTS - Any difference between ASUS and Gigabyte?

I'm planning to purchase the 8800GTS 640mb video card soon. There's one from ASUS at $454 CDN, and one from Gigabyte at $420 CDN.

Both are 8800 GTS 640mb. Apart from the name, is there any difference? I know Gigabyte makes good motherboard, but I've never bought video cards from them. In fact, I didn't even know they made them!

  • Internet safety for my teen - How to properly end a story?

Last year, my 14 years old daughter broke the rule of "No contact with someone you haven't seen with your own eyes". Her internet access was removed for a year.

We gave her back internet last May 1st without MSN Messenger access. By using e-mails, she started to chat with this other 17 years old male teen. She gave him our phone number (he never called) and even accepted to go to his friend's house (she wrote back saying the address he gave was wrong). How I know all this? easy: *I* am that other teen.

I created him and, like any other pedophile would do, told her what she wanted to hear. I find it unbelievable that she was ready to go inside a complete stranger's house!

Now, the question: Where do I go with this? How would you end this story? Another long discussion? Simply remove internet for another year? somehow scare her to death?

Specify if you're an adult or teenager. I'd love to hear comments/suggestions from teenagers as well!

  • Can we use environment variables in DSP files for SourceSafe?

The current SourceSafe link is currently set to something like this in the DSP:

    "# PROP Scc_ProjName "$/Dev1.0/sub1/sub2/sub3"

We're switching to a new project "Dev2.0". The thing is that I need to switch all the "Dev1.0" to "Dev2.0" in the 244 DSPs that I have.

Is is possible to use some sort of environment variable to make my life easier in the future? something like

    "# PROP Scc_ProjName "$/%SSBase%/sub1/sub2/sub3"

where SSBase would be an environment variable set as "Dev2.0"? I've tried $SSBase$, $(SSBase), etc. It doesn't seem to work.

Ps. Yes, SS is old. Yes, DSPs are old. I know all that already.

  • How do I transfer recorded shows from my Pioneer-533 DVR to my computer?

I've recorded TV shows with my Pioneer DVR-533 and would like to transfer them to my computer to remove the intro, extro and commercials. I thought I would've been able to do this by burning them on a DVD-RW and dump them on the computer, but my computer keep saying "Please insert disk in drive" when I try to open the content of the DVD, although I can read the DVD from an application that plays DVDs.

I've tried both "VR Mode" and "Video Mode" (what's the difference anyway?!) and I get the same result.

  • Boost memory leak with connect()?

I'm getting a 16 bytes memory leak from a connect() to a signal0<void>. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Has anyone experienced this?

  • Where to get a simple free firewall?

I have a WRT54G router (LinkSys) that has inbound firewall, but not outbound. I need to install a very simple firewall that wouldn't require a lot of memory (I don't need fancy GUI) and would control outbound traffic.

  • Which band would you most like to see reunited?

    - "Van Halen" with David Lee Roth

    - "Pink Floyd" with Roger Waters

    - "Supertramp" with Roger Hudgson

    - "Journey" with Steve Perry

    - Other (specify)

Don't say "Guilour won't ever work with Waters again!" or "Eddie hates David too much". Imagine that you have a magic wand that could make it happen.

  • How to make Stouffer's Swedish Meatballs?

Our regular grocery store has stop selling the *delicious* "Swedish meatballs" frozen diners from Stouffer's (" http://www.stouffers.com/products/ProductDetails.a... "). I've sent a comment to the store, but no luck. Looked for it in other grocery stores, but no luck there either.

So fine, I'll cook my own! I looked for a recipe exactly like the one from Stouffer's, but can't find it. Anybody know how to make it just like the one from Stouffer's?
