I'm meeting my girlfriend's family for the first time, and I'd like to make a good impression and say thank you for having me for dinner by giving her mother some flowers. I know that her mother would like pink or red flowers, but I'm not sure what species of flower to give her.

I have a week and a half off school and I'd like to broaden my horizons.

I plan to read the Big Six of English Romanticism (though any other Romantic era suggestions are welcome), and I should like some Modern era as well, and perhaps some Post-modern as long as they are not insufferably so, and perhaps some contemporary.

I would truly love some help. I'm not an English major so I don't get class nudging me in the right way, and my English major friends aren't poetry people (their loss).

I've developed a crush on a good friend of mine from school. We share a lot of interests, and we pretty much all around gel together. I kinda had a crush on her from when we met during Frosh, but I was in a relationship at the time so I didn't really pay attention to that crush, and we didn't always talk and that crush essentially got buried and died.

However, since becoming single and talking with her ever more often, this crush has pulled a Jesus and has returned. I do really like her and would like to get to know her a little better on a different level.

However, when casually asking if there were, you know, any cute guys in the town where she lives or in her classes, she says no, and that she's not looking for a relationship right now.

I've hung out with her a few times, and we went to see a show together a few nights ago and she stayed the night at my place (on the cot). We've planned to do it more times over the year, both for our nerd-athons and because she has early class Thursday, so I offered her a place to stay so that she doesn't have to always wake up at 4AM to get the GO to get to class. When I told her that she is always welcome to come crash if she wants, I can promise to you all that I did so without any reptilian intentions.

However, I feel a bit guilty regardless of the fact that I am not intending to mix her staying over with trying to get with her. I therefore have been toying with the idea of telling her how I feel, just so that this won't all seem suspect. Yet, I don't want to risk this creeping her out at all and bringing a friendship to an awkward end.

Is it better to keep quiet and try not to risk the friendship?

Or should I be honest and tell her, not so much as to try and wrangle up a relationship (considering her self proclaimed disinterest in having one), but simply to be honest and forthcoming?

Today I made out with my ex's best friend. The two of us aknowledged feelings for each other after the first break up, but didn't have the chance to do anything. Throughout my ex's and I's second wind myself and her best friend decided to close the door on our feelings for each other, although we also said that we may as well keep the future open.

I feel incredibly guilty for the feelings that I had for the friend, even though they never compared or threatened all the love, adoration and complete surrender that I had for my ex. I know that it was still wrong. It's hard to shut those feelings away. I know I'm horrid for it, but it truly wasn't on purpose.

I suppose that I'm just asking: "How much longer should I wait? I need time to heal, but if these feelings are so strong and its an unspoken agreement that we're going to do something sometime should I even bother waiting?"

I feel I should get her SOMETHING. I'm 18, its my first relationship, and I'm on a VERY tight budget. I was thinking of getting a tin of fancy Christmas-y cookies. Any other suggestions?

I'm Canadian, supported England throughout the World Cup, and always wanted to join the cheer- except all I could do was clap along.

Look, I've been trying to get with a girl, who is a friend of mine, for the past nine months. The first time I tried, she said yes...then said no because of family problems (father left with other woman) and the fact that herself, her mother and her sister had to sell & move house. I know for a fact that it is all true. So because of that she maintained that she wasn't interested in a boyfriend given the situation. Now, I learn that she has had a boyfriend. It is quite recent, that I'm quite sure of. Why do girls have to be such two-faced bitches sometimes? If she didn't like me, why couldn't she just say that? What do I do now? (My plan is to ignore her until she notices, then yell at her. Hopefully she'll be caught so off-guard....)

Not to be a *****, but doesn't it seem to you like He's just given up on us all? People who don't care for people rule them, control business and even claim to speak for Him, often commiting acts He says that he would condemn (ie, fundamentalist Paul Hill murdered both an abortion doctor and his driver , showing no remorse for his actions or the grief he caused, saying that he would gladly kill again for the sake of unborn babies). There is widespread suffering and disease, pandemics are on the doorstep, the environment is in the shitter, children go hungry, are kidnapped and forced into becoming prostitutes, slaves or child soldiers, and yet all the while the majority of the people of the West do nothing and care little, too absorbed in their own lives to give two shits about Lebanese civilians killed by Israeli air strikes.

What gives? If God is a loving god, why does he allow suffering? I also want to mention that to say its all according to his will/plan, is shameful complacency.

Its true. In 1933 Roosevelt declared a state of emergency because of the Great Depression. It was never repealed after his death, so it continues to be in effect. I'm quite sure that that leaves the US constitution null and void. Be afraid.

I want good clean answers & explanations folks, the funnier the better!

I love the series, and, out of curiousity, wanted to know why others think that MYST, Riven, Exile (well...), Revelation (Awesome, except for the rewriting of Prison book rules- still cool though), URU and End of Ages (I Haven't played them yet) are such great games. Is it the elaborate back story? The imagination? Graphics? Innovation? Puzzles?

I need to put together a semi-casual kilt & suit on a budget. Also, do I really need Gillie Brogues, or can I wear normal dress shoes? Normal dress with spats? Also also, are the awesome socks (with the little hose flappy things) acceptable if I'm not wearing Gillie Brogues? If you need an idea of how semi-formal this is...my jacket will be brown courdoroy.
