  • Having problems connecting to Orange Broadband?

We recently switched to Orange (from BT) and it has proved to be nothing but a nightmare. After waiting several weeks for our account to be activated we are now unable to connect.

The live box has yet to be delivered, but I have been trying to connect with my old speedtouch USB modem (both lights are green when we plug it in). I have entered our username & password and when I try to connect it gets up to the 'verifying username and password' and gets no further... remote computer not responding.

Any idea what the problem could be, and if there are any settings we need to change to get connected.

  • A definition of freedom?

    What is freedom?

Religion and politics seem to have differing views on what freedom may or may not be.

Take for example freedom of speech, if a country does not have freedom of speech you will be punished for saying something like “this government sucks and Mr dictator is a Idiot” in public.

Of course you were free to say it, your mouth is your own – but you will be severely punished for your actions.

Freedom of speech would then not exist in this country by modern definition (and neither would you, if the penalties were harsh enough).

From a religious point of view though, it seems to work differently.

Free will means you are able to do or say what you want, yet you will be punished accordingly – free will allows me to blaspheme, but I will be pulled up by god if I do so.

Surely that is exactly the same as lack of freedom by legal standards – you can, but you will be punished.

Have I missed something out here, is freedom and free will totally different?

  • If you had to describe yourself in a few paragraphs, would you include your religion?

Would you make a point of mentioning your faith (or lack of) or would the thought of stating your religion in a brief personal description not even occur to you.

  • Oblivion game for PS3 - I can't find the person who sells the house in Skingrad?

I have asked at the castle and was told that I must speak to some one else - when I follow his marker on the map it leads me to a space under the long bridge to the city - and no one there at all, dead or alive.

I assume the poor chap must be dead - although I don't recall killing him myself.

Is there any other way I can buy this house?

I am playing on the PS3 so bringing him back to life is not an option.

  • Could any one explain the significance of ropes tied around trees in Shinto?

For example the in the film My Neighbour Totoro, the big camphor tree has a rope around it.

I assume this has some religous meaning, but what is it?

  • Is there an on-line version of the bible, or at least one on a CD format?

That people copy and paste from

Or do people actually type out all these quotes they are so fond of using in this section?

Don't you get bored of typing out the same religious passages over and over again?

If all the people on here were Christians - would you stil fill your answers with quotes, or are you doing it for the benifit of us heathens, who might not own our own copy of the good book.

Have you not realised yet that quoting biblical passages as answers tends to annoy people and makes you appear unable to rason and to think for yourself - whatever the case may really be.

  • Fried Watermelon rinds?

Apparently watermelon rinds can be stir fried and eaten, even if they don't look very appetizing - infact they look rather green and tough.

Being watermelon season soon though, it seems a shame to through away all the skin if it is indeed edible.

Has anyone ever tried cooking them, and if so - does it matter which sort of watermelon you use and how long should I cook them for & what with?

  • A couple of questions about Oblivion (the game)?

    Item regeneration

I know that plants you pick regenerate in the wild after a few days, but what about other items.

For example if I am a member of the Mages Guild and I take all their plates and cups and food, if I go back to the same guild house again a while later - will they have replaced it or will it be gone for ever?

    Horses

Does the time taken to quicktravel differ if you have a horse, and when you arrive - where will your horse go?

    Can horses be healed?

  • A question about excel?

When creating an excel sheet - for example an electronic weekly diary, how is it possible to ensure that the first row (or column) with the headings - such as days of the week or times always remains visable, no matter how far along the sheet you scoll. (Which would make it easier to fill in - so you don't have to scroll back to check if you are entering things under the right heading).

  • What does one need to do in order to get married?

Ok, that question sounds wrong, this question is not about choosing of whom to marry, but rather the practial side.

What are the practical (or legal?) steps one needs to follow before one can get married in the UK (both are residents of the EU)

I am sure, like everything else these days it involves filling in forms, any idea which?
