Can you take a son or daughter into your business as an apprentice?
My son is a self-employed aerial and satellite installer. His 17 year old daughter has expressed an interest in learning the trade. Does anyone know if there is a government sponsored scheme whereby it's possible for him to take her on as a student? He cannot afford to take her on as an employee, but given that she will be learning, we are wondering if there are opportunities available in situation like this. We would be grateful for the advice from anyone who has any knowledge or experience relating to this situation.
3 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoWe have bought a motorbike registered in Ireland - how do I re-register it in England?
I bought this bike from a mate, it comes with a legitimate Irish log book, and the previous address was in Dublin. The log book states that upon change of ownership, it has to be completed and sent to an address in Shannon, County Claire. It doesn't give any instructions as to what to do if the bike is taken to England or anywhere else for that matter. Does anyone know what the procedure is? I am concerned about sending it in case I lose the run of it and have difficulty registering it at all! I would be grateful for any advice.
2 AnswersInsurance & Registration1 decade agoWindows vista problem?
I have a new laptop installed with windows vista. It is fine until I try to use the keyboard to type! I can't even leave ebay feedback! Nor email. A box appears with internet explorer is not responding etc. and it returns to my home page. There is no interruption in my connection and I can browse with no hassle at all. Is this a common problem? It used to be fine - this only happened yesterday. Does anyone have a solution - please?
5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoDoes anyone know where the Loon has gone!?
I always read his questions with interest, now there is nothing from him for a while and his profile has gone. A shame that a good and constant contributor isn't on here lately. Perhaps he's had enough of us?!
2 AnswersOther - News & Events1 decade agoI am worried about Father Christmas......can you help?
I've not got a chimney. How the hell will he get in? Will he leave the presents on the doorstep? Should I leave his mince pie in the porch I wonder. My husband tells me not to be silly, just to go to sleep and my presents will be in my stocking in the morning. Now I'm even more worried, 'cos I don't wear stockings. The only surefire way I can think of catching him is to sit on my roof all night and just hope I can catch sight of one of the elves. Has anyone got any help for me please, or at least, a ladder I could borrow?
17 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoTalbot Express radiator cooling fan motor - does anyone know please!?
whether one from a 1.9 diesel engine will be the same as that from a 2litre petrol? It is a 1989 model. I would be grateful for any advice as I am having difficulty getting one. Mine is the petrol model, and I have been offered the diesel motor. Thanks for any help - I would have to get this one sent through the post and I am keen not to waste time on something that may not fit! If anyone could tell me where I may get one quickly, that would also be very helpful.
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoEgg Nog and the X Factor.?
I am sure that he won't win the X Factor, because if he does it will show that the show is a waste of time. He doesn't have it any more than I do. Just what do people vote for? Ooh so sweet or Oh my God,there's a talent? Alex is obviously the greater talent. Or should I say the only talent left? I don't particularly like her, nor do I particularly dislike the others. But isn't it time we voted for the real potential? Ok, we wont.
4 AnswersOther - Entertainment1 decade agoX Factor voters - what really influences your vote?
I am curious as to how people vote for these singers. I watch it, but have not yet ever phoned to cast a vote myself, as I always seem to have mixed feelings. I am entertained by the show, and I enjoy watching unknown people getting the chance of a lifetime to perform to an enthusiastic audience. I personally thought that Rachel had more pure raw talent than any of the others. But do you vote honestly for the talent, the tune they sing, because you like them, the way they look or what? Does their past influence you and if so is that fair? I am undecided on all this. Everyone thinks differently and therefore votes for different reasons, but I would be interested to know what the most influencing factor is.
4 AnswersOther - News & Events1 decade agoWhat's happened to ebay?
Used to be so reliable. Now I find the emails disappear, the messages don't show up and sellers aren't notified of payment sent straight away - or is it just me having a problem? Incidentally, you can opt out of the new format if you want to, I wish I had known that before!

Anyone know what Mr Nice Guy has gone to the courts for, to keep something out of the press? Surely it's not that he prefers Pringles? I always thought he was too good to be true!
3 AnswersOther - News & Events1 decade agoThe Doors....?
I am trying to identify a tune from a lot of years ago recorded by a band or group named Doors. It was a popular ballad at the time, and may have been made by a different pre-Morrison band of the same name, as I cannot find it in discography under the name. I am sure it was made as a single, but I really am going back a long time! Can anyone help please?
7 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoHow long after giving birth to a litter of puppies should a small Jack Russell be speyed please?
On January 1st this year I took in my little dog who was going to be abandoned due to a gypsy site being evicted and the owner going to Ireland. I was told that she was 3 years old and I knew she had had 2 litters at least but the owner told me she had lost count of her litters. She settled remarkably well and we set about improving her weight and overall health which was working well. However it soon became obvious that her weight gain wasn't only due to a taste of good living and on Feb 28th she gave birth to 5 lovely pups. I already have homes for 4 of them and may keep one myself if I can persuade the other half. I have researched the weaning and worming process so I am confident with that. But although she is unlikely to get caught again with an enclosed garden and controlled walks, I know I should get her speyed. How long should we wait before approaching a vet as to her suitability and do the benefits to her outweigh the risks at this age? I would welcome your experiences.
13 AnswersDogs1 decade agoIf someone is an undischarged bankrupt........?
...are they allowed to do self-employed work? This person was made bankrupt 2 years ago for £15k, not connected to business at all, personal debt through the breakdown of a relationship. He knows he cannot be a company director or open a business as such, but could he legally work on his own as a maintenance person or similar if it was all done properly?
4 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoTony Blair's conversion to Catholicism - I would like to know how genuine practising Catholics feel...?
For myself, I was baptised as a Catholic many years ago, due to the fact that one of my parents was a Catholic, more down to family tradition than an allegiance to the faith. I never followed through, but I respect the fact that there are dedicated sincere people who attach a lot of importance to their religion. I am curious to know people's views as to his sincerity, and how they view him as a member of their congregation. Do you see it as a personal choice, and him as a worthy participant, or something different to this?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo most of you look forward to Christmas in spite of the hard work and expense - or does it......?
....bring back painful memories of tragedy or the loss of someone close? I am struck this year because so many people have remarked that they won't enjoy it for one reason or another, usually due to the absence of a loved one or a sad event that they will feel more acutely because it is Christmas. Should we encourage them to enjoy it in spite of this, or respect their feelings and accept what they say?
11 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoVenom, is that too strong a word.......?
for some of the carry on in News and Events? There is nothing we can do to stop it, except to avoid answering these posts at all. Even the strongest defensive reply is feeding these people with the attention they crave because their lives are lacking. I pity them in a way. It is a mental health issue with these poor souls who enjoy a vendetta, and all I can suggest is they examine their need to do this and control it before it spills over into the rest of their lives. It is far better to contribute to this forum in an amusing ar intelligent way than to bang on about other people. It earns respect if you can hold an opinion and take part. If opinions differ, it doesn't matter.Debate is for people who care about things, it doesn't matter what it's about, horses for courses. Respect is far more rewarding than notoriety. Does anyone agree with me please?
24 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoJane Tanner - does anyone believe her 'sighting'?
I would like to believe this woman, it could mean that the child is still alive somewhere, though under what circumstances I shudder to think. In fact I found her tale completely unbelievable, not least because of the way she told it. Hesitant and with no conviction, no pun intended. The best give-away was when she agreed to the way 'he' was carrying the child in an unusual way, with hindsight. It was almost as if she was kicking herself for describing it that way, as if she were thinking, "yes, I should have said over the shoulder". She showed no attempt to be earnest, no intensity. I saw this an another attempt to make us believe there was an abduction, to detract from the real events. Her testimony was watery and unconvincing, and she wasn't challenged about changing the description of this 'event'. I don't believe she saw anyone at all. What do you think?
