Info on catalytic converters?
I've been searching the web and thought I would come here to see if anyone has some good answers.
My car is shifting poorly - doesn't shift out of first gear until reaching 4 RPM. Had it at the mechanic. He says I have a plugged catalytic converter and it needs to be replaced. I've read some info about cat converters and how sometimes it can be due to fuel, bad spark plugs, etc.
Now, I know my car is over due for it's 100,000 mile tune up. So my first question is, should I get my tune up first and see if the catalytic converter is still acting up? Should I try to use a cleaner? I usually fuel up at BP which I believe has a fuel cleaner in it already.
So, if I really do need a new catalytic converter, should I get a universal or factory one? This difference is greater than $300 and I would like to save some money on this.
My other question is how long can I drive with a bad cat. converter? I probably won't have the money to fix it for 3 weeks.
BTW - I drive a 2001 Saturn L200 4 door sedan. It has about 115,000 miles on it.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoGetting medications shipped to the US from Canada?
Does anyone know how I can get medications from Canada into the US without going up there and getting them? My doctors office will call in a prescriction, but all the pharmacies say it is illegal to ship drugs to the US. Also, the drugs are for my dog, not for me. But I can get them for half the cost in Canada than the US and they are chronic drugs (he has to have them). The drug is called Latanoprost or Xalatan to treat glacoma (he can't have surgery becuase he is in congestive heart failure). Or does anyone know where I can get this drug in the US cheaper (now I'm paying $80 for 2.5 ml about once a month).
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoElectric switch not working?
My switch to my light and fan suddenly stopped working one day. The outlet adjacent to it still works, the jacuzzi jets in the tub still work, but the switch that operates the light and the switch that operate the fan both don't work. They are on the same recepticle but differnt circuits I believe. I tried flipping or reseting the main breaker, didn't work. I tried re-installing a new switch receptacle (I think I did it right) but it didn't work either. There is no GFCI on the switch plate and although the home was built in 1964, the bathroom was remodeled in 2001 and have new elecrical work in the bathroom, so the switch is fairly new. Any ideas???? I'm trying to go back to school and don't have a lot of money, if you know of an electrician in Anderson, IN that could solve the problem, let me know. Thanks!
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoCar mount for recumbent trike?
I'm looking for a way to mount my Sun EZ recumbent trike on my car (a Saturn Sedan) so I can go on bike trips. It has one wheel in front and two in the back. It is approx 47 inches long and 29 inches wide at it's widest dimension (the rear where the 2 wheels). It weighs about 50#. I've found specialty mounts and hitches that cost $300 and up, but I'd like to find something in the $100 or less range. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
