1 AnswerOther - Winter Sports1 decade agoI need a new word - can you help?
The word is to describe people who, when faced with environmental problems and some proposed tech or regulatory solutions that will help a lot but will cause some inconvenience, do this:
declare that the PROBLEM is really SOMETHING ELSE and that we are all being comprehensively DUPED by the SANDAL-WEARING THOUGHT POLICE and produce a whole lot of their own imaginary or confused SCIENTIFIC FACTS which they emphasise liberally with CAPITALS
surely this breed needs its own word. What's it to be?

3 AnswersTheatre & Acting1 decade agodemolition explanation?
So: two horrible old tower blocks are scheduled for demolition. They have been picking at them for months and all that's left is the concrete skeleton.
Today I noticed that round each pillar or load bearing bit of wall are wrapped things like black plastic bin liners. There are bits of blue string attached to some of them.
Are they setting it up for a big bang?
It seems odd because there's no special security, just the normal halfarsed perimeter fencing with pictures of non-existent dogs. Can they leave the place full of explosives like that? or is this some earlier, intermediate non-bangy step?

9 AnswersMobile Phones & Plans1 decade agoWhat happens if you overburden a 4-20mA signal?
I have a 4-20mA analogue signal which is looped through three instruments already. When I add a fourth, there's a small risk the sender will be looking at a total circuit resistance that's greater than the spec.
What will happen? Will it just saturate at some level below 20mA, or will it go off calibration right through the range?
As yet, I haven't determined if the signal is loop powered or not. What will be the effect if it is? or isn't?
Thanks!
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoDid Feature Homes call you this evening?
They called me. I told them they were breaking the law by making cold calls to someone registered with the Telephone Preference Service. They said "don't get cheeky with me" and hung up.
Nice!
Have you had more luck with them, perchance?

Yum. I don't know how much it cost (Mrs Eep bought it) but I reckon it cost a lot less than it tastes.

4 AnswersTheatre & Acting1 decade agoA question about serial communications...?
RS485 lines need biasing resistors at some point in the network. None of the devices I'm using seem to have this.
Is there a nice neat module that I can bolt onto a DIN rail that does this, or do I have to have fiddly resistors knocking about inside panels?
I've searched everywhere, and can find nothing that does this.
Help!
