How can I fix my Windows 7 fonts?
The fonts are off, and some aren't available. For example, if I choose the "symbol" font my text becomes "sylfaen," and because the list is incomplete I can't get anything to come up as symbols at all. This is true in every program, word docs, text, and painter. I did install one font once, but I've only had the laptop for a week so I don't know if it only started after that. Uninstalling the font hasn't made a difference.
1 AnswerSoftware10 years agoHow do roadside assistance/emergency phones in the U.S. work?
I know I've driven by them (I think??), but I can't find any info about them online. Do they automatically connect to 911 when you pick them up? I'm assuming the location is tracked, so that if someone didn't know where they were, it wouldn't matter?
1 AnswerLand Phones1 decade agoSomeone hacked my group and is posting messages under member names?
So far there have been four messages from two members, and they've either been spam or links to malicious sites. I know neither of these members are responsible. I don't think my email or password have been compromised, but I'm not sure. How can I find out, and what can I do with my group?
1 AnswerYahoo Groups1 decade agoHelp identifying weird taste in soft serve ice cream?
Three of us had different flurries at our own concession counter (I didn't taste anything weird in mine 'cause there was so much filler) but the other two each said theirs tasted like natural gas smells from a stove. Gross extra fact--it made all of us burp and I definitely noticed a natural gas taste! It made me very nauseated. We seem to be fine, but what would cause that?
1 AnswerOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoDoes an amateur musician who performs cover songs need to pay the ASCAP fee?
i.e. Someone who gets paid a couple hundred bucks to sing for an hour at a FREE outdoor concert. It's not very clear on ASCAP's own website if this is a performance that demands payment of royalties or "fair use" under copyright law.
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoWhat kind of mineral is this?
A person brought this in to our museum today and wondered what it was. I know a little about geology but this one stumped me. My best guess was arsenopyrite or massive pyrite. It's very, very heavy, though--I'd guess the specific gravity is 6 plus (this little 4"x 2"x 3" piece weighed 3 pounds) and I couldn't scratch it with a knife, so the hardness is at least 5. Metallic, yellowish sheen (tarnish?), brown spots of tarnish evident in a couple places.

3 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoHow can I tell if a kitten is getting enough milk from its mother (details important)?
When the kitten was born this morning, the mother wasn't giving milk (she was really skinny). The vet kept them for the day, said the mother didn't seem interested in feeding or had no milk, and gave me formula and a feeding tube along with strict instructions to feed every two hours all night. For the last hour, though, the kitten has been suckling on mom...I don't want to force feed it if it's getting enough food, but what if it isn't? How can I tell?
6 AnswersCats1 decade agoHave you ever found fossils at Pit 11 at Mazon Creek?
How did you go about collecting them? Were there a lot of nodules on the surface? Where were they--along washes, eroded areas, or somewhere else? I was there for the first time yesterday and I feel like I missed some big secret gathering technique, what with not being allowed to dig. Found some small ones though, as it had rained recently.
1 AnswerEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoGeology term for mineral-filled air bubbles in igneous rock?
This rock looks a little like a porphyrite, or maybe a large-grained diorite but the secondary material is so uniformly round...I suspect that perhaps the original rock had air bubbles that were later filled with quartz, but I can't find information on it, because I don't know what this would be called...any thoughts?

2 AnswersMusic & Music Players1 decade agoCan the phytoestrogen in soy milk affect my hormone balance?
I started drinking a lot of soy milk three months ago, and have had episodes of rapid heart beats, hot flashes, and symptoms similar to that of having low estrogen levels. Can the soy milk be messing up my system?
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoHow do I locate a "missing" drive?
My USB port used to be location: E, but then our computer guys installed a CDRW drive and named it E. I managed to rename the USB port O, but now it doesn't show up in my computer. I tried device manager, and it shows up under the USB ports, and it even sees when my camera is connected, but I can't GET to it. If I hook up my camera, there's nothing to click on to open. I can see the properties, but not actually open anything or get to the files stored on the camera (or jump drive, or whatever I have plugged into the USB). Help?

Chicago passed a law allowing prostitues to sue their pimps for physical/mental damages. But prostitution isn't legal in Chicago in the first place. How are they handling this?

3 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation2 decades agoSalamander help?
I helped take care of a classroom tiger salamander...we guessed it was about 28 years old. The person who owned it before had it in a mostly water-filled tank with a rock and some gravel, but it always stayed in the water, and we kept the tank the same. In the last year, it got hugely bloated and finally died. We cut it open later and it was completely filled with water, it was like popping a water balloon (ick). Everything else seemed normal.
A. Why did he fill with water after 27 years of healthy life?
B. We had recently (week before) added peat for him...could this have killed him?

Will we see the day when there's a question like, "Help! I just cut my finger off, what should I do?"
Will they wait the recommended 24 hours before choosing the best answer?
