  • Do united sets have to be in order from smallest to largest?

    Math question on my 6th grader's test:

    A U B

    A={2, 9}

    B={8}

    My daughter wrote {2, 9, 8}

    The teacher marked it wrong and wrote the correct answer as: {2, 8, 9}

    So united sets must be written in order from smallest to largest? Is that correct? Can someone confirm? Thank you!

  • Floor crunches vs. leg raises on a power tower?

    Hello, does anyone know the difference in effectiveness between floor crunches vs. leg raises on a power tower? I'm relatively fit, a runner, but I have very little upper body strength. My husband recently bought a power tower and told me that doing leg raises on the captain chair was very effective vs my floor abs routine. With my floor routine I do 200+ crunches using my lower and upper body. At the end, my stomach is screaming for mercy. When I use the power tower, I can only do about 20 controlled knee raises at a time before my upper body begins to shake. I could do more leg raises, but I can't hold my body weight for longer. So I do 20 reps, rest, 20 reps, rest for a total of 60 reps. My abs never burn though. Should I dismiss the power tower and continue with my abs routine, or is the power tower going to be more effective because I am lifting my lower body with my core?

  • What does "smart" mean as a dress code?

    I'm attending a few events at a conference my husband is going to. The organizers are British and the dress code is listed as "smart casual" for a night cocktail (I'm wearing a knee length simple black dress and pumps). But the gala dinner is listed as "smart". Isn't that business attire? It just seemed odd for a Gala dinner. In the US galas always require evening dresses (long), not business attire. I want to make sure I take the right outfit. Thanks your help!!!

  • Is it normal for a baby to breastfeed for only a few minutes at a each feeding?

    My daughter is almost 1 month old. At the hospital they told me to aim for 15 to 20 minutes each breast, for a total breastfeeding time of 30 to 40 minutes. My daughter "demands" a feeding every 2 to 3 hours. At each feeding, she will feed from one breast for 8 to 10 minutes. Sometimes she does 4 minutes and stops. Then I burp her, change her, and she will drink for 4 more minutes. But after 10 minutes of feeding, even if I burp and change her, she does not want more milk.

    She is gaining weight very well. She was a pound heavier than her birth weight at her 2 week appointment, and I know she has gained a lot more weight since then. The times she is bottle fed, she drinks between 3 and 4oz at a feeding. Can it be possible that she takes that much from a single breast in 8 minutes??? If so, why do they ask that you feed them for 40 minutes??? She has only fed for 15 minutes twice, and she threw up both times.

    Does anyone else have a newborn that feeds for such a short period of time? Is this normal?

  • Amost 4 weeks late. Shouldn't there be enoujgh HCG by now?

    I have a 11 month old, and just last month we started to try again for the first time. It took us about a year to conceive last time, so I was thinking the same this time. I am 4 weeks late and took a pregnancy test three 4 days ago (at 3 and 1/2 days late) and it is negative. Now, I do not feel pregnant. I have none of the symptoms that I had with my first pregnancy, I feel just normal, and I am not under any type of stress. I have never been 4 weeks late. Has anyone actually tested negative on a home pregnancy test after been late a whole month, and then realized you were pregnant after all? The pregnancy test I took was supposed to catch traces of hcg 5 days before my period, so it should have caught it a whole month after. Maybe my period is just super late, and that's all...

  • Salon Deep Conditioning Treatment?

    I know that often they use Kerastasse Masquintese which I have at home. But what other products do they use? I recently went to a salon and got a deep conditioning treatment and my hair felt amazing. I forgot to ask what they use. Does anyone know any other brands commonly used at solons for deep conditioning? Thanks.

  • Hairline fracture of the fibula and no cast or boot...?

    Hello, 6 days ago I fractured my ankle (hairline fracture at the bottom tip of the fibula). They gave me a temporary cast at the emergency room and a day later an orthopedic surgeon gave me a splinter looking thing (long padded "boards" on each side of my leg held by two straps that wrap around my leg with velcro). My ankle has full movility with this, but it does protect the tender spot in case I hit it accidentally. My ankle is swollen and black but I'm in no pain unless I put pressure on my foot or touch the area. But I keep reading that people with similar fractures are immovilized with a cast or a boot. I was wondering if anyone had a similar breakage and what was used on the ankle... Thanks.

  • Baby no drinking OR eating...?

    My 9 month old started solids at 6 months of age. He was a champ eater until about 3 weeks ago when he started to decrease his milk intake (from 30 oz to 20oz) and not wanting to eat. So I started making him laugh during feedings, and try to sneak the spoon in. Ofcourse he caught on. He has been drinking for the past 2 weeks between 16-20 oz of milk, and that is by practically forcing him. So I decided to let him drink what he wants to drink, and for three days he has only drank 10 oz, if that. I have tried the sippy cup, changing bottles, changing nipples, giving him baby tylenol (although two teeth came out two weeks ago and he did not have any problems with his two other teeth when they came, plus he is not drooling, or bored or chewing on everything). For the past 4 days he has refused to eat breakfast, which was his favorite (fruit and oatmeal). And is fussy at lunch and dinner (he eats finger food while I spoon feed him the main course-whatever I cook with no salt).Help!

  • Fish oil vs. Flaxseed supplements...?

    Hello, I have been taking fish oil supplements (mercury free, so GNC claims) for a while now. But the more I read, the more I realize that common supplements do no have enough oil to represent what a healthy adult needs. I am switching to "pharmaceutical strenght supplements". But, since I plan to be pregnant soon, just in case, I rather switch to flaxseed supplements. Do they prodide all the omega-3s I need??? Would it be the same as taking fish oil without the risk of mercury intake? Thanks for your help!!!

  • Teething and refusing food...(worried mom)?

    My son is eight months. His two front bottom teeth came out last month and he had no symptoms at all. Butnow his two upper front teeth are pushing out. For the past 8 days (I counted) he has been refusing his bottle and his solid food. He might eat 4 or 5 oz of solids a day (vs his almost usual 10) and has only been drinkin between 18 and 22 oz of milk (vs his regular 28+) Is it normal for a baby to loose his appetite for 8 days? Or should I probably call his pediatrician to make sure? I know he should at least be drinking 24oz of milk a day, and he is a looong baby (90th percentile). Thanks a million!!!!

  • A good starter kayak...?

    Hello, my husband and I have finally decided to purchase two kayaks (we don't like the ones for two people), but we are at a loss as to which would be a good beginner kayak. We would only be using them once a week for a couple of hours for recreational/fitness use. And we would be paddling at a lake or a calm river. Also, ideally, we would not like to spend more than 500 for each. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

  • Question about paying my mortgage off (how do interests work?)?

    We put down $200,000 to by a $400,000 home. So we asked for a $200,000 loan at an X interest rate. It was a loan to be paid off in 15 years. By the 15th year (we are currently in the 3rd year) we would have paid off 200,000 plus a LOT more money in interests. We are thinking about paying our house off this year. How does it work??? If we still owe 160,000, do we just make a check for 160,000 dollars, or do we have to pay the 160,000 PLUS the interest that would have been accrued in the next 12 years... THANKS!!!

  • Medela Pump In Style battery pack question (for traveling)?

    Hello, I was wondering if anyone had used the medela battery pack while traveling and how long did the batteries last. The manufacturer states 3 hours of pumping, but I want an actual person who has experienced the battery pack to let me know if that is true (I don't want to get stuck with no pumping power). I will be going to Venezuela for Cristmas and will need to pump at least three times during the trip (airport or plane bathrooms). So about an hour and a half or 2 hours of pumping (if I need to pump four times). Thanks in advance for your help!
