  • What happened to my Macbook? /Charger issues?

My macbook pro charger has been fraying near the end that plugs into the computer and I've been meaning to get a new charger, but I'm abroad at the moment and the nearest store is about an hour away. Anyway, I was using my computer last night and lifted it up to put it on my lap when I heard something like a spark come from the charger and then my screen went black.

I panicked, thinking I had completely fried my computer. So I tried turning it back on and thankfully, it did turn on. But now it seems like there are a few problems with my computer:

    1. My fan is constantly operating, regardless of the temperature of my computer.

    2. There is an error message that pops up whenever I turn my computer on saying that the date and time of my computer is set back to before 2008. Despite the fact that my computer still displays today's date and the proper time.

    3. The backlight to my keyboard isn't working, but the backlight for my screen is still functional and adjustable.

    4. The icon that usually gives me my battery life estimate has an "x" through it, saying that there are "no batteries available".

    5. The button on the left side of my mac that usually lights up and gives the battery estimation won't light up anymore.

I'm going to borrow my friend's charger to charge my computer until I can get a new one; I'm not touching my frayed one again. It kind of seems to me like I've done battery damage, damage to my fan, and backlight. And hell, probably a lot of other stuff. But I don't know if all of these problems are stemming from one thing in my computer being fried or several things being affected...

So, Y!A. How can I fix this/am I actually able to fix this? Thanks for any help in advance!

  • Ear piercing closed up?

    Background:

At the beginning of August I got my ears pierced for the first time. I got 14k white gold studs which were working fine. I twisted my earrings on a regular basis and I cleaned them regularly. Once the six weeks was up and the holes felt ready, I had my mom help me take out the originals and put in a new set. These ones were sterling silver studs. I woke up the next morning with an obvious allergic reaction to the metal (my lobes were red, inflamed, and very itchy). So I took out the silver ones and went to put my gold ones back in. The first one went in fine, but the second, for whatever reason (probably because of all the irritation and inflammation in my lobes) started to close up before I could get my earring through it. It was kind of a cluster because I couldn't poke the earring through for risk of infection and I couldn't even find the other end of the hole on the back of my ear. I also had 3 or 4 other people look at it within the hour and they all had the same issues as me. So, I left the earring out and decided to allow it to heal and get it re-pierced. And I am currently walking around with one diamond stud in one ear and a bare one and I feel pretty weird.

    Questions:

Do I need to wait for the piercing to completely heal before I re-pierce it?

If yes, how long do I have to wait for it to heal?

When I get it re-pierced, will the pierce it in the same spot as the current piercing? Will the scar tissue there result in increased pain for me?

I'm leaving for study abroad in Europe in two weeks and I really don't want to worry about my ears or how weird it has to look with the earring in one ear, so I'm thinking I might just take the finctional piercing out and allow that to heal as well. And then, when I get back in the end of December or maybe at the beginning of January, just get them both re-done.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you so much for any input!

  • Can you get a parking ticket over an illegible sign?

    Hi guys!

Today I got a parking ticket. I was confused at first because the sign that I was parked next to said "No parking 6PM Thursday thru 6PM Monday" and I had parked there at 2PM on a Thursday, but then I looked at the ticket and noticed that I was actually ticketed on a sign that said that I could not stand in that area between 8AM and 4PM during the week. Only then did I notice that there was, in fact, a sign above the sign I could actually see that supposedly bears this warning. The problem is that the standing sign that I was ticketed on is so faded to the point that it cannot be read. It looks like a blank sign, to be honest.

I'm just a college student and the $35 fine is not something that I can just take lightly. Do I have a case? I did snap a picture of the "sign which proclaims nothing" before I left, so I do have evidence.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Can Series EE Savings Bonds depreciate?

I'm looking at the current value of some series EE savings bonds that were given to me in the early 90s on the calculator on the treasury direct website to pay for next semester's tuition. The face value of the bonds are all $200 but when I put the majority of them in, the calculator is saying that they are worth between $170 and just over $200. Does the calculator take into account any taxes placed on the bond? Because clearly, bonds don't depreciate in value, right? I'm not really well-versed in the field of savings bonds...

  • What kind of degree would compliment a civil engineering degree well?

I'm looking into a dual degree engineering program that will eventually result in a civil engineering degree with some other degree that I have yet to determine. Now, I read somewhere that a political science degree with a civil engineering degree would work well, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me, although I am thoroughly interested in political science.

Do you have any suggestions for what I could do? I like the political science degree with civil engineering in theory, but what kind of civil engineering could I do with that?

    Thank you!

  • Is this breast cancer?

Ok, to start, I am only 16 years old. I might be freaking out about nothing, but I really need some answers please.

So, a few weeks ago, by left breast started itching and soon both were itchy. I didn't really think anything of it, just carried on. But then, within the past week or two, a patch of what seems like dried skin appeared. It feels kind of calloused, and it has been peeling. So, that's what I thought it was- dry skin.

But then I noticed when I got in the shower one day that when my nipples hardened, the patch of dry skin turned into a lump (some what). And that's what got me nervous. I looked up some information online about breast cancer in people my age and it says that there is a percentage (a relatively small one) of people who get breast cancer under the age of 40.

When my breasts returned to normal, the lump was gone, and the patch was there. Also, the patch, when I push on it it hurts a bit. But not a stabbing pain.

Ok, so the fact that both of my boobs itch makes me think its just dry skin due to the winter season. But the lump in the shower, the slight pain, and the history of cancer in my family makes me think it could be cancer. I have talked to my mother and she said she will arrange an appointment, but she is fairly convinced it is dry skin. She hasn't seen it, though.

Please, if you have any answers or even any guesses, respond. I am really scared. I know I sound borderline insane right now, but I'd rather freak out about nothing than ignore something that could be very dangerous.

    Thank You!

  • I need vocal help...?

I have an awful sore throat and tomorrow I have to sing at a funeral. I'm afraid that my voice will crack on the high notes and that would be awfully embarassing.

So, any singers out there (or even doctors), do you have any tips for me? It doesn't have to cure my sickness, but I just need a cover-up for a 5 minute song.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Projectiles and Newton's third law?

So, Newton's third law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

A projectile is an object on which the force acting is gravity.

How can these two concepts co-exist?

If an object is thrown upwards (no air-resistance) then it is a projectile once it leaves the hand and the only force acting on it is gravity. But, according to Newton's third law, every force should have an equal and opposite force.

That might be a really dumb question, I don't know, but this is something that I just can't wrap my head around. Can someone explain it to me?

    Thanks :)

  • Word Processor Conversion Problem- I think?

The other day I did a physics lab and recorded all of my data on a Mac laptop. When time was up I saved all of my data on my flash-drive so I could finish the lab at home.

Well, I get home and attempt to open the file only to find that my Microsoft Word 7 can't read the document.

I have some really important numbers in there. Can anyone think of a solution to my problem?

Any advice is very much appreciated!

  • Algebra II quadratic formula help?

    ok, so here's the equation:

    9x^2 - 4 = 12x

I know the formula, I know how to use it (usually), but I'm totally stumped on this one. I keep getting identical roots of (0.667, 0) because I get a 0 in the square root portion of the formula.

    help please? thank you!

  • Number of parts to the Mass of the Byzantine Rite of the Catholic Church and their names?

Im writing a report in which I am asked to compare various rites of the Catholic Church, and I was just wondering how many parts there are in the Byzantine Mass and what they are called? I am comparing the Latin Rite and the Byzantine Rite. For example, the Latin Rite has four parts to its mass- 1: Introductory Rites; 2: Liturgy if the Word; 3: Liturgy of the Eucharist; and 4: Concluting Rite.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Is she still considered a virgin?

ok, one of my really good friends has never had "real sex". but she gave a guy a ******** and just from the mucus membrane contact, STD's could possibly be spread. and i mean, STD's are SEXUALLY transmitted diseases, so there had to be sex going on in the first place in order for the possibility of this to occur? Do you think she is a virgin or has she lost her virginity? Could you give me any more information that would aid me in this debate (i think she is no longer a virgin)?

    Thanks!

P.S.- i dont approve of her actions at all, and i want to make sure that she knows how real her actions are, please dont answer if you cant answewr my question. =]
