  • Any tips on staying healthy working in the medical field?

I graduated last year and got licensed for physical therapy. Where I work I split my time between a heart hospital and a nursing home. I love my job and I've been there about 3 months now, but I keep getting sick!

I know, wash wash wash your hands. I do that. And I also use the alcohol sanitizer stuff every time I walk past a dispenser at work. I eat fairly healthy and I'm very active. I've also begun taking a multivitamin in hopes that will boost my immune system.

I normally don't get sick very often so it's possible that this is just coincidence, but I kind of don't think it is. My aunt, who is an RN, told me that people starting out in the medical field often get sick a lot and that it will eventually even out.

Any tips besides what I'm already doing to help me stay healthy at work?

  • Is there a type of Autism where the person still chatters a lot but just doesn't seem to connect?

generally from what i've experienced with people who have autism and what i've read about, seen on tv, etc. you see Autism as someone who just doesn't talk much and stays to themselves. but my boyfriend works with a guy that has said he has autism. the stories i've heard about this guy... they say he is very bright and he's an absolute chatterbox, but he just doesn't seem to connect. he will use the same jokes over and over until they're dead, will chatter over people when they try to join in on a conversation... doesn't seem to read others well to see that they're getting irritated. my BF said i don't know how he could be autistic, he talks way too much. so out of curiosity, i was wondering if there is some level of autism where the person connects enough to want to talk to others, but just doesn't read others socially very well?

  • How do you cut the grease from a wood polish?

Just moved into an apartment. Overall it's really clean and fresh, BUT the doors inside are all stained wood and it seems they put some kind of polish on them before I moved in to make them shiny, and they're all greasey and gross. I've tried wiping them with just paper towels to soak it up and 409 all purpose cleaner, and they're still greasey! Help!

  • Supposed to start my period yesterday, pregnancy test negative?

3 weeks ago i was visiting my boyfriend who lives in another state. we had sex without a condom. i've been on the pill for years, but i found out that an anti-biotic (that i was still taking 9 days before going to see him) can affect my birth control. i know some can do that, but i didn't worry about it because i specifically asked my doctor if it would and she told me that it wouldn't!

needless to say, when i found out that this medication actually can affect your bc pill, i'm a little nervous. took a pregnancy test and it was a big fat negative, but i know that isn't necessarily 100% accurate.

i have 2 more tests. how long should i wait to take them?

  • Does L4D2 have a monthly membership fee?

My boyfriend is in the process of transferring schools and moving. Because of this he's short on cash right now and decided not to buy Left4Dead2, even though he's been looking forward to it for forever. He says he'd rather save to spend on me for Christmas. He's a sweetie :)

I'd really love to buy L4D2 for him for Christmas, but before I do I want to make sure there isn't also a monthly fee he'd have to pay to keep playing it after you buy the game itself. So does L4D2 have a monthly fee or do you just buy the game and you're done?

  • Slowing down a song using Cakewalk Music Creator 4?

I'm trying to slow down an MP3 file for a routine for my cheerleaders. I've used the program many times to mix different songs together, but I've never figured out how to slow down a song.

I slow it down using "Change Tempo" and it's slower when I play it in the program, but then when I save it and listen to it on Windows Media Player it's back to normal speed again.

Anyone know how to use this program and can tell me how to do it? Or any other options (that are free)?

  • knee catches/pain after sitting cross legged (indian style)?

whenever i sit indian style for a while (30+ minutes) and i stand up, sometimes my knee catches and it HURTS. it hurts so bad that it's hard to pin point exactly where it hurts worst, but i think it's in the back of my knee.

the weird thing is it usually only lasts about 10-15 seconds, so i just have to hold really still with no weight on that leg until it goes away. then it's stiff for 30 minutes or so and then i don't feel anything anymore.

obviously i should stop sitting like that and i'm working on it (it's a habbit) but anyone have any idea what that could be? i just think it's so strange that it comes and goes so quickly. i'm pretty active. i run a lot, play soccer and coach a college cheerleading squad where i'm spotting kids on tumbling (flips) and neither of my knees bother me much at all when i do that stuff.

and just for a reference of how badly it hurts when it does this: if the time i tore my achilles tendon in half was a 10, this knee thing would be a 7-8.

  • common snakes in Oklahoma?

...or in this general area of the nation?

A friend of mine is starting up an all-star (competitive) cheerleading gym and i'm trying to help him pick a name for it. I've heard of a gym called Victory Vipers and thought it was cool, so I was curious what kinds of snakes are common around here that we might name the gym after.

I know we have copperheads, but I don't like that name. Any others?

  • have UFO sightingings become more rare with the invention of camera phones?

heck, some phones even have video cameras now too!!

do fewer people claim to have seen UFOs nowadays because it's SO much easier to prove if you actually did see something? people almost always have their phone on them. they can't use the excuse of "i would have taken a picture but i didn't have a camera and when i came back it was GONE!"

i'm not saying that EVERYONE who sees a UFO is making it up. they might really have seen something (even if that unidentified "something" isn't an alien ship) but i would guess a large portion of them have been made up.

  • how to keep from crying?

anyone have any suggestions how to keep from crying while at work/school/etc?

when it comes to pain i'm certainly not a baby. i've torn my achilles tendon in half and have had stress fractures in my back which i went to a cheerleading competition and competed on. if i take a hard hit or something i never cry.

BUT if it's something emotional i can't keep from crying. if i'm extremely angry or frustrated i'll cry.

Example: i'm in a pretty serious Physical Therapy program and earlier this semester i had a test which i accidentally fell asleep while studying for it. if you don't get at least a 3.0 each semester you get booted, so after i finished my test and i didn't feel great about it i started to tear up and my professor saw me. it was SO embarassing. i rushed out of there before my classmates saw.

please, any ideas? i want to get this under control before i start working full-time. what if i mess up on the job and start crying?

  • Any ideas for our mascot's name?

I coach the cheerleading squad at a small school that just recently started up an athletic program. With the addition of our athletic programs and also recently becoming a 4 year school, student enrollment has boomed. All of the brand new teams are surprisingly good and our student section at basketball games has been much better than I expected.

Our mascot is the Hillcat. Our college sits on top of a hill at the edge of town and you can see it lit up at night, hence the name HILLcat. it sounds silly, but the logo actually looks pretty cool:

    http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a378/Kate104/RSU...

We have a mascot suit that is also very nice looking, but we don't have a name for him. I've heard talk of a "Name-the-Hillcat" contest, but nothing official yet.

Does anyone have any name ideas for our Hillcat?

  • why can't i follow a normal sleep schedule?

i remember as far back as 11 years old when my parents would yell at me to go to bed and i'd lay there for hours and not sleep. now i'm 21 and it still seems like no matter what i do i CAN'T GET TO SLEEP.

my usual pattern will start out on very little sleep (about 2-3 hours, sometimes less) and i'll be miserable all day but at night i'll still have a hard time getting to sleep. next night i'll get maybe 4 hours of sleep. then the next night i will CRASH and go to bed around 10 or 11 (which is INCREDIBLY early for me). then that night i absolutely can't get to sleep and the whole cycle starts over again.

i try not to take naps and i exercise at least 4 times a week. i also try to stay off the computer at night.

i'm a bit scared to take sleeping pills because i don't want to be dependant, but here it is almost 6am and I HAVE CLASS IN 3 HOURS and i haven't been to sleep even though i got up at 9:30am!

should i give sleep meds a try and if so which should i ask my doctor about?

  • 38 year old woman on a teen site asking strange questions?

i joined a teen site a few years ago. i'm 21 now but the girls on the cheer section still ask me for advice so i check back occasionally.

for the past 2 months there has been a crazy woman there. 1 minute she's asking STRANGE questions & the next she's starting fights w/ people for NOTHING. about 2 weeks ago i found out that she is 38 YEARS OLD! she has said she has Asperger's Syndrome. she seems very ANGRY, lonely & SO strange!

when her questions on the cheer section started getting weirder, i took a look @ the other sections of the site she posts in. she is claiming to be a Virginia State Policeman (probably not true - she changes her supposed occupation often) & has been asking the kids on the site WHAT KIND OF UNDERWEAR & BRAS THEY WEAR & questions about their periods!

this is NOT right! a 38 year old woman shouldn't be asking that! it makes it worse that she is pretending to be a Virginia State Policeman. i'm sure they wouldn't be happy about that!

    what should i do?

  • Sheer Cover Makeup?

I've seen lots of questions and i've seen answers both good and bad, but i haven't seen any specific answers as to WHY they did or didn't like the product.

i have somewhat oily, acne prone skin. right now i'm using MAC studiofix (a thick powder foundation) and it's pretty good for controlling oily skin, but i'd really like something that isn't so heavy. i think the heavy makeup makes me break out more.

so if you've used Sheer Cover makeup, did it give you enough coverage? did it help with oily skin? is it worth the money? what would you rate it on a scale of 1-10?

    thanks!

  • Do any of you ACTUALLY get mood swings during your period?

I believe that SOME women may be so affected by hormones during that time of the month that it makes them moody, but I think for the most part it's just an excuse to be mean to people.

The only thing that ever affects me is that sometimes I'll get cramps, but I take pain killers for it and I usually go for a run because exercise helps relieve the pain. I never experience moodiness. I don't understand that.

  • Does it ever annoy you that people don't always pick the BEST answer - they pick the one that THEY like best?

Haha usually it's really not that big of a deal, but it gets on my nerves sometimes when someone is asking something that is completely opinion and they'll be really rude and then pick the one weirdo answer that supports their opinion, even though it's probably not the best answer!

like for example if some troll asks "Wasn't Hitler awesome?" now anyone with a brain would say "HELL NO! he was pure evil!" but then another troll answers "dude, he rules!" and the person who asked the question will pick that question and that question is crowned the "best" answer, even though it's really not.

(that's just an example, btw. i haven't seen that exact question, but i have seen some really ridiculous questions and "best answers" before)

yeah, i'm just bored and can't sleep so i wrote this... but what do you guys think?

  • About how long does it take to build up credit?

I'm a college student and up until now I'd never had a credit card or anything like that, so I didn't have ANY credit. But I bought a car in January of this year. I've made one payment so far and the second one is coming up soon. How long does it take for me to earn credit if I never had any prior to this?

  • I broke my thumb. Easy to do hairstyles?

and of course it had to be my right thumb that i broke! i'm in a cast for 3 weeks. i have notes for class and it shouldn't be a problem at my job....

but i don't know what to do about my hair! i'm one of those people that basically lives in t-shirts and i don't even usually wear makeup except on weekends. but oddly enough, i'm pretty much obsessive compulsive about my hair!

i'm a college student and i live 2 hours away from family. there's no one to help me with it! right now i have about jaw length hair with layers. i blow dry and straighten it, but i don't know how i can do that with a cast on my right hand.

**any suggestions on an easy way to do my hair, especially without having to dry and straighten it?**

i was thinking about scrunching it, but most of the time it just ends up looking half wavy and half frizzy. any really great scrunching products to make your hair curl?

  • I'm not the only person that worries sometimes that they might not find that "special someone," am I?

I'm almost 21 and a junior in college. I just got accepted into Physical Theraphy school, I'm a successful college athlete, I'm attractive and fit, I have plenty of friends and I get along great with my parents. I'm in no way a miserable person!

...But every once in a while I get this little tingle of fear that I might not find that "special someone." I have fun with my friends and meeting new people, but it just seems like I'm a lot more mature than most guys my age. I'm not one of those girls that always has a boyfriend, and lots of my guy friends have told me that I'm "one of those girls that just looks like she must be taken." What does that mean?! I always tell myself that I'll find someone, but I worry a little sometimes.

Surely I'm not the only person who feels this way sometimes, right?
