  • Same calculus question thats been floating around for over a week...?

Plz just help in anyway you can. I'm not purposely being lazy, I, and many others in my class, are completely lost. the best I can figure is just set the rest of the variables to 1?...but in other problems, like ones involving Poiseuille's law, the of r tuns to 0...which would make 5. equal zero. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help us!

    5. Research indicates that the power P required by a bird to maintain flight is given by the formula

    P(v) = w^2/2pSv + 1/2 p A v^3

where v is the relative speed of the bird, w is its weight, p is the density of the air, and S and A are constants associated with bird’s size and shape. What speed will minimize the power expended by the bird? Assume that w, p , S, and A are positive constants.

    6. The production of blood cells plays an important role in medical research involving leukemia and other so-called dynamical diseases. In 1977, a mathematical model was developed by A. Lasota that involved the cell production function

    P(x) = Ax^s e^(-sx/r)

where A, s, and r are positive constants and x is the number of granulocytes (a type of white blood cell) present. Find the granulocyte level x that maximizes the production function P. How do you know it is a maximum?

  • missing critical points with some equations?(most/all work done)?

Iv been studying calculus, and I understand pretty well how to graph a function, but in soem problems thre are these seemingly hidden critical points

    Example: f(x)= x^4-2x^3

    f'(x)=4x^3-6x^2=0

    4x^3/4x^2=6x^2/4x^2

    x=3/2

    f''(x)=12x^2-12x

    concativity at 3/2 is +

    12x^2-12x=0

    12x^2=12x

x=1(conacativity is - when less, + when more)

Punch into f(x) to get points blah blah....so 2 and 0 are also critical points, which inhernently makes sense looking at f(x), but there has to be something with my method. I have my final tommorow, and this is rly gonna worry me. plz help

  • A compression, at a constant pressure of 50 kPa, is performed on 4 moles of an ideal monatomic gas (Cv = 3/2..?

A compression, at a constant pressure of 50 kPa, is performed on 4 moles of an ideal monatomic gas (Cv = 3/2 R). The compression reduces the volume of the gas from 0.25 m3 to 0.12 m3. The work done by the gas, in kJ, is closest to?

What is Cv? I have no idea where to start.. I feel like this was the day I missed in physics

  • Gravity problem. finding mass of a star from orbital period and radius?

Alright. I've spent 2 hours analyzing where I went wrong with this one and I've gotten nowhere.

On October 15, 2001, a planet was discovered orbiting around the star HD68988. Its orbital distance was measured to be 10.5 million kilometers from the center of the star, and its orbital period was estimated at 6.3 days

What is the mass of HD68988? Express your answer in kilograms

So Iv been using the formula T^2/R^3=4pi^2/G(Mcentral)

Im looking for Mcentral so I deduce from that the formula Mcentral=4pi^2(R^3)/T^2(G)

So I input the data. 6.3 days to to seconds and get 544,320. Im sure only Pi was squared when I did my calculations. this is what I got

    4pi^2(10.5*10^6)^3/(544,320)^2(6.673*10^-11)== 2.31*10^21 and I should be getting 2.3*10^30

Anyone know where my zeros went? And help on the other problem would also be much appreciated

  • if g'(5)=10 and h'(5)= -4, find f''(5) for f(x)=3g(x)-2h(x)+3?

Plz help and explain. Thanks for your time. Once again, Id just like to say that if you have any plans to make a math book you shooould defiantly look into explaining how to do ALL the problems that are in your hw section. I don't know if there are just huge tutoring lobbyists involved in the writings of math books, but this is pattern I see in every mathbook. Every one! If its not intuitive from the basics in the lessons, at least show an example of the problem. I shouldnt have to look for information outside of the book. Plz

  • Why did Yahoo Answers make their new layout so unattractive and glitchy?

umm the yahoo symbols hidden under the search bar....ya there was nothing wrong with the web layout before. Why? It looks downgraded and feels awkward to navigate through. I think there's just a new trend to make all websites less attractive. kinda like an internet Post-modernist movement.

    plz stahp,

    Sincerely Andrew

When i draw the triangle the angles from the two sides add up to more than 180 and the angle increase going more south just seems against commons sense. Am i going crazy? plz tell me cuz this is an online quiz problem and id be pretty pissed. Iv looked over it so many times and i think the program just screwed up again

  • help with research on the scarcity of water?

Im doing this speech on the scarcity of drinking water thats focused in on issues in South America, but I believe my professor for another class told us about how, in an African country( I think it was Nigeria) conditions were so bad that Parents stopped taking care of their children and were more focused on their own survival. Any resources related to this would be great. the correlation between family values and water conservation would be very persuasive to my audience. Also Iv been looking into Colombia's water referendum bill they tried to pass a few years back and i cant find any results to it...anywhere. I cant even rly find the bill. Same goes for sources about mining in S. America and its subsequent allocation and wate of drinking water. All i have are skimpy short articles on all of these issues and If anyone knew a few good solid sources about the specifics of the water crises in South America or that first scenario my professor described, it would be greatly appreciated.
