20 AnswersParenting1 decade agoWhere is a good place to stay on Long Island in December?
I'd like to plan a 2-day midweek getaway, and was looking into the wilderness beaches of Long Island and the barrier islands. I'm not sure what's open in December. I'd like a place I can get to fairly easily by LIRR and Taxi, with wi-fi, and an easy taxi ride to the beach or ferry. Any suggestions?
1 AnswerNew York City1 decade agoHow do you feel about the use of transgenic mice and rats for medical research?
If you don't mind answering a few questions, please respond. This is actually a very informal public survey I'm doing as one part of a research presentation for educating the public about science. The developers of transgenic mouse technology recently won a Nobel Prize, and many people first learned about it from the news coverage on their work. I will be working with public groups to answer basic questions, and it will help me to get a sense of general public opinion, concerns, questions, and understanding as I prepare my material. This is NOT the only forum I am using, only one tool of many. Thanks!
1) Do you feel you understand the basics of transgenic technology?
2) What is your highest level of education?
3) Do you think that scientists are correct when they say that the use of transgenic mice is necessary for important medical advancements?
4) How do you feel about the use of animals in research in general?
5) Do you have any concerns about transgenic technology?

I'm compiling a list of login passwords for on-line meetings at work, and I'm trying to select humorous and/or famous meeting references. For example, beware the meeting that has the password "waterloo'. Can any history buffs help me expand my list? I have "meetmeinSL", "waterloo", encontrarme", "meetingofminds", "entmoot", "versailles", "appomatox" now. Thanks!!
4 AnswersHistory1 decade agoCan you fill in the blank? "No respectable Democrat home would be complete without..."?
Again, if we're going to stereotype, let's at least have fun with it and acknowledge that this is what we're doing to each other. Ten points to the best tongue in cheek response. Offended by my question? See the exact same question posted re: Republicans.

Hey, if we're going to stereotype, let's at least have fun with it! Ten points to the best tongue in cheek answer. Don't worry, I'll post one for Democrats too. I'm killing time in an airport.

18 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoWere you ever a target for bullying, either as a child or an adult?
What helped get you through it? What makes some people more resilient than others? Do some of the same things that make people resilient also make them more likely to be targets (for example studies have shown that very intelligent children tend to be more resilient to adversity)?
Curious about your thoughts.
7 AnswersOther - Social Science1 decade agoWhat assumptions do people make about women who seek abortions?
I was thinking about the abortion debate, and I think that a lot of people are led to stereotype women who seek abortions as being a certain age, class, etc. Who do YOU think are the women seeking abortions, and why do you think they seek them?

I'm writing a story about a person visiting a planted weeping willow throughout their life, and want to make it realistic. I know what seedlings and mature trees look like size-wise, but am looking for specifics on the younger and adolescent ages. Thanks!
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoWhat is "average rent" on a two BR apartment in your area?
I just read an article on Forbes that listed the highest average rents in the most expensive places around the US as being around ~1200/month, which astounded me since that's less than what my roommate and I pay on a rundown old farmhouse (and that was one of the better deals I found...)! Just curious what average rent is where you are living? And, what's the most you ever paid for rent?
7 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWhat do you draw the lines differentiating class divisions in the US?
We hear so much about "middle class values", but I'm curious how you personally draw the lines differentiating lower class, middle class, upper middle class, etc. I'm not looking for something cut and pasted... I'm looking for opinion. A good answer should be well thought out.
1 AnswerOther - Social Science1 decade agoDo you feel it is your responsibility as a voter to educate yourself on the candidates' platforms, or...?

For me, if I never hear "Hotel California", "Another Brick in the Wall", or anything by Michael Jackson, Van Halen, or Billy Ray Cyprus again, it will be too soon! What are some good (or not so good) songs from your generation that should be retired from being played on the radio for at least a decade?
