  • What age were you when you got yourself up for school?

    Here's the scenario:

Our son is 8 1/2 years old and needs to get up for the bus at about 6:30-6:45 AM. My wife puts it upon herself to wake him up, get him out of bed at the detriment of her own sleep every day. We have tried an alarm before, but he just rolls over and turns it off and goes back to sleep. I think he is plenty old enough to be able to use an alarm. She thinks it's "normal" that she needs to get him up and that all moms do this. I know I was getting myself up by this age, and therefore disagree. I also think this kind of behavior is fostering dependency/lack of self-reliance, self-esteem and a host of other poor character traits.

Therefore, I am objectively wondering what others think, when you guys remember getting yourselves up and dressed and out the door to the bus stop. Thank you.

  • Upper back issues?

I got this a couple of nights ago while sleeping on my side on the mattress - with no pillow. Hoped it would go away last night, but it didn't.. feels like I have a pinched nerve or something a around the middle/upper of my back and to the right.. it's very restricting when I nod my head forward, and I also feel it when tilting my head to either side.. but don't feel it at all when I tilt my head back. Any ideas? How much would a chiropracter run? I can't afford a lot at this time..

  • Production Possibility Curve?

By historical standards, unemployment in the US is quite low. But the method of calculating U/E is controversial; part-time workers count just as much as full-time workers (even if they would prefer full time employment), and no consideration is afforded "underemployment", those in this category count as employed as well. Knowing this, are we on, inside, or outside the Production Possibility frontier? How, if at all, could we improve our current position?

  • How to read better? I get distracted very easily..?

Almost everything has to be perfect even for me to read at a fairly slow rate.. the right chair, position, comfort level, had enough sleep, not hungry, noise levels, etc.. I've taken Gingko and Focus Factor with modest results.. granted, I'm reading very boring textbooks - but my problem is I get distracted very easily. For instance, I'll read one paragraph, then my mind wanders and it might trigger some memory which leads to something else, and soon enough.. I'm staring at the same paragraph for 5 minutes.

Ironically, I'm looking for a quick-fix "read better" book or tips from others who have trouble focusing.. I can deal with reading slow, but sometimes it takes me 8 hours and a ton of breaks to read 20 pages with low comprehension.

  • Last in homers..?

    http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/153619/...

I have a 1 in HRs and 5 in RBIs.. there are waiver options out there, and I've made a few bargain trades to obtain power (Ramirez, Howard). The only places I see would be to try to get HR options at C and 2B - neither of which are easy to find, or would be cheap. Should I be concerned or just go after the other categories? The leader is at 104 pts, I'm in 4th at 72

  • XP Home Retail/OEM CD Key question?

I have a sticker on my case with an XP Home cd key on it .. however, I do not have the recovery discs or anything.. I do, however, have an XP Home full retail CD that one would buy from a retail store.. however, I'm already using the retail's CD Key on another comp .. so, I'm wondering: can I install the XP Home again temporarily on this OEM computer and then use one of those CD Key software hack program to change it manually to the OEM's CD key from the sticker, so I can upgrade service packs and do Windows Update?

  • How to turn off Autoformat on MS Word?

We are trying to do an outline with Roman numbers, A, B, C, 1, 2, 3 ,etc.. however, the autoformat is really screwy, usually adding the wrong thing and then putting tabs in weird places that's hard to get rid of it.. it's easier just to do it ourselves. Anyone know a way to turn it off?

  • School bus flashing , but stop sign isn't out..?

The bus was pulled over on a right turn lane, main lane was open ... it was flashing, but the stop sign never came out so I thought it was ok to go. I did slow to a crawl, however the people across me and behind me all stopped , so I think I screwed up. The stop sign did eventually come out but only after I passed. Anyone know for sure?

  • How does the laser access the data on the outer edge of a DVD?

It seems like it would be sitting on the tray, and if the laser is in the center - accessing through the exposed tray opening, then there would be no way it could reach the data on the outside... but obviously, it does.

  • How do you get hundreds of friends on Myspace and Facebook?

I mean I know people who aren't super outgoing with 100 friends.. and then more popular people with 500 to 1000 or so.. I'm just baffled at how people know so many other people, or are we talking about adding every vague acquaintance? This is just curiousity/envy , not so much a personal attack. thanks.
