  • How can I have Office 2010 and 2003 on same computer?

I set up a Windows 7 PC for my parents. In their user accounts, I set up Office 2003, as that is what they are used to workinig with.

For myself, I want to set up Office 2010 in my own user account to use when I am at their house. I have been using Office 2010 on my laptop. (Note: both copies of Office 2003 and 2010 are legitimate versions, purchased from Microsoft.)

Can I install Office 2010 for just myself in my user account (on their computer) or will it overide the Office 2003 that my parents are using under their user accounts?

  • How would you answer this sociology question?

I was asked this question in our sociology textbook:

Sociologically, what term best applies to a group of people who share no common destination but who happen to all be riding in the same taxi cab?

    1 An aggregate

    2 A category

    3 A social frame

    4 A clique

I chose answer 1 An aggregate but I was told it was wrong. Why?

  • How can I transfer pictures directly from my digital camera to my iPhone without having to use a computer or iTunes?

I want to be able to label my images on my iPhone and later send them to people when I get a cell signal. I am out in the field with no computer nearby (and no signal either).

Because iPhone does not have an SD card slot nor a micro-USB port, how can I transfer files directly to the iPhone? (Maybe this is why so many people buy Android phones -- they have these slots and ports).

  • Why didn't iPhone find the contact name when she called me?

I got a new iPhone (with iOS 8.1.1) a few days ago and put friends' contact numbers into the contact list. When one of my friends called me, her number showed up but the phone didn't link it to her name even though her info was already entered in the phone contact list. I wonder if this has to do with having a "+1" dialing prefix before her phone number in the phone contact list?

  • More than one PayPal account? What do I need to do?

I have a PayPal account I use for personal use. But I am setting up a business, and want to keeps its transactions separate from my current Paypal account. What do I need to do?

Besides a separate bank account (a business account), do I need:

a separate email address? it would be my business email address

a separate mailing or shipping address? I work from home so it would be the same as my current address

a separate credit card? or can I use the same credit card. I'm the same person.

What about Social Security number SSN. It would be same for both Paypal accounts, would it not?

  • Why so few Jews in the world?

There are 1.5 billion Christians, 1.2 billion Muslims, but only perhaps 20 million Jews in the world, and only a fraction of them are truly religious. Yes, forced conversions by the Church, genocide (pogroms in Czarist Russia, the Holocaust, Stalin's massacres) have diminished their numbers; think of how many more Jews there would be if those millions of people have lived and begot children of their own. But are there other factors? If so, what are they?

  • Should I get a foreign or domestic registrar? Foreign or domestic web host? Keep them same or separate?

I want to register a domain name and get a web site for my business.

Does it matter whether I use a U.S.-based registrar or a foreign based one. I do business in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and plan to get the same domain name for all three. So, does it matter from where I get the domain name? Are there legal issues involved?

Also, should I use the same company to host my website? And does it matter if I get a foreign-hosted website? Are there legal implications to this? I was told to keep my domain name registrar separate from my web hosting company to prevent website black mail by either of them; it also makes any outages at one place less likely to affect the other.

I am thinking of either getting the domain through a U.S. registrar, but hosting the English language site in Canada, or using a Canadian registrar, but hosting the site in the U.S. The Mexican site will host the Spanish language site, or will point to a Spanish language page at one of the two above sites. I feel that the uptime for the American or Canadian sites will be more reliable than the Mexican site (I've lived in rural and urban Mexico, and i know firsthand the state of their electricity and communication infrastructure).

BTW, my business involves photography, travel, and music.

  • Car shimmies when braking; assume that rotors are warped; using semi-metallic pads w/ stock OEM rotors.?

    Car: Toyota Corolla.

I had someone measure the rotors: are about 7.25 mm out of 8.00 mm remaining. They didn't see any warpage but guessed that it was there after driving my car and test braking it.

So, should I get new rotors and which brand?

Or, should I get new pads and which type and brand?

The guy who looked at my brakes suggested getting Raybestos ceramic pads along with Raybestos or Brembo rotors. But someone else suggested just get new ceramic pads, then try them on the old rotors. Does this make sense? And if I do get rotors, should I get slotted or drilled or just plain ones? OEM or aftermarket? Japanese-made or Chinese-made or Mexican-made or Italian-made?

  • Chiral enol ethers? How can a compound with a double bond be chiral?

In chemistry we learned about chirality and enol ethers. If an organic molecule needs four different constituents attached to a centeral carbon to be chiral, how can an enol ether be chiral since it has a double bond to another carbon, so each of its carbon atoms has only three substituents attached to it (2 groups, plus that of the double bond). Can anyone explain this?

Can you point me to a picture of a chiral enol ether? and explain the picture?

  • Slow opening dialog boxes in Word, Excel but there is no mapped network drive.?

When I need to access a dialog box in Excel or Word (say to change a font, adjust the axes or titles of a chart, to save a document, etc.) it takes these programs up to 30 seconds to bring up the dialog box, then another 30 seconds for the dialog to go away after I click "OK" or "save." I read that this was due to a mapped network drive, but I am not on a network, and none of my drives are mapped (I just checked again.)

This slow accessing is frustrating. All of these problems started after Microsoft Office downloaded a large update. I wish there was a download to fix this problem.

  • What is the purpose of 0.05 M MgCl2 and 0.5 M Na3(PO4) in an enzyme kinetics assay?

In chemistry lab, we did an enzyme kinetic assay using acetylcholinesterase acting on acetylcholine. Two of the ingredients we added to the "cocktail" were 0.05 M MgCl2 (magnesium chloride) and 0.5 M Na3(PO4) (sodium phosphate). What is the purpose of the MgCl2? What is the purpose of the Na3(PO4)?

  • Word 2003 Outline View: How do I get it to print on paper in same format what Outline View show onscreen?

I like the way the Outline View feature in Microsoft Word 2003 allows me to enter text in different indented levels; it helps me to organize my thoughts. But when I go to print the text, some or most of the indentations are lost, and some indented items are listed on the same level as their parent item, albeit in a different font. How can I print on paper exactly what Outline View shows on the screen, including those dashes and other stuff? Or is there a program to capture screen images that I can use but this would be more awkward to use?

  • How to deal with multiple goals/subgoals using affirmations.?

Well, I am working towards a new career goal, but it is a long way off. In order to achieve this particular main goal, I need to accomplish at least ten subgoals, each of which in itself will be difficult if not impossible to achieve. when I write affirmations about my goals, should I write my affirmation solely focusing on the final goal (very difficult), or the subgoals (also difficult) that will lead up to the final goal? I'm afraid if I focus on any one of the subgoals, I will miss the main end goal and the other subgoals, and if I focus on the end goal, it will not realize itself, because I failed to focus on the subgoals that are necessary to achieve the main goal. Any help on which is the better strategy. This end goal and the subgoals are too important to me to fail achieving.

  • Do police profile drivers by the type of car or condition of car they drive? Please read the details.?

I've had five and perhaps more situations where I've been witness to police making assumptions about people based on the car they drive and not on their race or ethnicity.

I had a friend (who is white) who drove an old Chevy Nova 1969. This car was a favorite among African-American and Mexican youth. Once, we were driving through his neighborhood coming from work (we used to work together), when we were pulled over by a police officer who wondered why he was in that neighborhood. "I live here" was his reply.

Another time, again we were in his car while parked in front of his apartment building. Within minutes, we were surrounded by four police cars, who ordered him out of the car. When he got out, the lead police officer, looked shocked -- my friend was apparently not what the officer was expecting -- and the lead officer apologized. "You're not what we expected," the officer said to us.

At least three incidents also happened to me. I drive an old, beater Toyota -- has body damage, needs a paint job: peeling paint, and is dated in style -- but it gets great gas mileage and is cheap to insure so I see no reason to upgrade and fixing it would be too expensive; I'm a college student so I have a limited budget. Once, while driving home at night, I passed by a police car going the other way. The police officer then turned around and followed me five miles to my street before veering off. I could tell he or she was following me by my route; they were also probably checking out my stats via my license plate.

Recently, I had a similar situation. I went to the hardware store to buy light bulbs. A police officer immediately pulled out behind me and followed me all the way home (about 3 miles). I tend to take surface streets to get home, driving through residential neighborhoods rather than main streets because of the traffic congestion.

I went to airport to pick up my parents who were visiting, and the airport police came over to inspect my car. The airport police didn't say anything, but I could tell by their behavior what they were doing.

  • When is it time to give up a seemingly impossible or improbable goal? How does one know when it is that time?

Several years ago, I set for myself a new career. I talked to people in that career field, researched the requirements, and found a good school to start me on my path. But I've had numerous setbacks lately, my grades have not been as good as needed, and I'm reaching the point where I will be "too old" to get accepted to the graduate program that I want. To make matters worse, there are only a few universities that offer the training that I want and need to be qualified for this new career. (I don't want to discuss the career in specific at this time). And in order for me to shore up my grades, I would need several more years of schooling and may be even graduate school, which would put me well past the cut-off age for admission. I've looked into international programs, but I've already passed their cut-off age. Overall, I've become very depressed. Any ideas? My family thinks I should settle for a lesser career goal, but that lesser career goal would limit what I can do with and where I can go with the training I would receive. I am aiming for the higher goal because it would be less limiting.

  • Where are the fill plugs and drain plugs for a Toyota Corolla with manual transmission and manual transfer?

The service book for my standard transmission 5-speed manual 4WD Corolla shows only drain and fill plug (singular) for the manual transaxle, but talks about there being more of them. Also, the service book does not mention draining the transfer case. Nobody around where I live seems to know; I don't want to turn some bolt thinking that it is a fill or drain plug when it really isn't and mess up something. Does anyone have links to pix or diagrams on where the transfer fill and drain plugs are located?
