  • eyeglass frames for older guy?

what would be a good choice of eyeglass frame for a tall guy, mid 50s, relatively oval-shape face, short silver-grey hair? seems like everybody's got black, rectangular frames these days, and I'd like to try something a little different that is sort of studious-looking, but not 'trying too hard'.

  • US Treasury TIPS selling at a premium?

Can someone explain what it means when a US Treasury TIPS sells for more than face value? I understand that any interest accrued from the last payment date would be included in the price, but that aside, if it sells at a 7% premium over face value, exactly what does that mean?

  • Inception totem question?

I'm confused - in the movie Inception, if the point of having a personal totem was that nobody else was supposed to know what was unique about it, then why did Leo DiCaprio's character tell the girl about the top... that in a dream, it would just keep spinning and not fall over?

  • IRA rollover question?

If you redeem all shares in a mutual fund to rollover into another IRA, and there's a redemption charge, which amount is considered the amount of the distribution - the value of the account before the shares were redeemed, or the actual amount you received (net of the redemption charge)?

  • NL West AND Wild Card playoff?

If SF, SD, and ATL all finish the regular season at 91-71, I understand that there'd be a playoff game between SF and SD to decide the NL West. What I don't understand is why there'd also be another playoff game between the loser of SF-SD and ATL to decide the NL Wild Card. I thought that the playoff games counted in the standings. So the loser of SF-SD would then have a record of 91-72. Why wouldn't ATL be the wild card with a 91-71 record, which is better?

  • 'howling' sound - 2003 ZX2?

Hi - what would cause a 'howling' noise on a 2003 ZX2 (38K miles)? It's noticeable when accelerating at low speeds (up to 30mph), and sounds like it might be coming from the back of the car. Thanks!

  • Oakland Raider fans - question about 50th season patch?

Does anybody know for sure the significance of the five diamonds on the Raiders 50th season patch? I'm pretty sure that the three larger diamonds represent their three Super Bowl wins, and guessing that the other two represent their AFL championship (1967) and AFC championship (2002), but wondered if anybody knows for sure...

  • Why isn't Ray Guy in the NFL Hall of Fame?

I'm firmly of the opinion that Ray Guy should be in the NFL Hall of Fame. Special teams players deserve just as much consideration as position players... to those who disagree, I'd point out that there's not that much difference with a relief pitcher in baseball being in the Hall of Fame, and there was (is) serious consideration being given Edgar Martinez as a DH (which I wouldn't disagree with, either). Just wonder what other ppl think... opinions?

  • Big Ten needs a twelfth team... which?

I'd have thought by now that the Big Ten would have added a twelfth team and gone to a divisional setup like many of the other major conferences. Notre Dame's been mentioned as a possibility for years, but they don't seem to be interested. So... if you could pick one, which would it be?

  • Heroes question?

Peter Petraglia... does he already 'have' all of the other people's abilities (and just not know it) OR does he 'absorb' each new ability by coming into contact with someone who has it... sort of a 'good' Syler?
