  • Do I Drain Before Trying To Start or Not?

    2001 Saturn SL1 got about 60% submerged in a flash flood. Car ran in the flood waters for awhile. Car was slightly slanted downwards on the passenger side making the water level rise inside the car to about halfway up the passenger seat and lower back level of driver side. Headlights were almost completely submerged. Flood waters were fresh water, not salt water.

    One person says that I have to drain the fluids from inside the car before starting it or it will kill the engine. One person says that with a jump it might just still start on its own without draining the fluids.

    So, do I drain the fluids or not?
