  • How many Wars has NATO fought?

I can't seem to read a political question or news article where people bash NATO, say we need to leave the UN and NATO and lock down the country, and all that good stuff. The Libya CONFLICT has only made this more frequent, as have much of the news from the middle east uprisings. However, people seem to hate NATO the most. Kudos if you can tell me why we (the U.S.) should leave NATO, but im more interested in how many conflicts it has been involved in since its 1949 founding.

  • 50's style music for a tenor?

Auditions at a reputable nearby theatre are coming up soon, for the Musical "All shook up." Normally, as only a high school actor, songs are done from the show, but I need to prepare a song "upbeat, to showcase my talents and range." While I don't know perfectly my vocal range, I can safely say I am a tenor, but I don't know too many songs from the era besides the famous ones, such as Bill Haley and Elvis Presley, who were Baritone at highest to begin with. I don't have to many roles I'm focused on, I just more want a part. Suggestions, anyone? Any more info I need to add?

And no, I realize its an Elvis musical, but I don't want to rely completely on that. I can memorize hi songs, but I want to be familiar with a variety as opposed to one artist.

  • Is there a de-friending bug on facebook?

Im on facebook, and for the last two days, after a friend commented on a wall wall post I made, she doesn't always register as a friend. It would be one thing if it was simply "she defriended me." However, every other time I log in, she's friends again, and then shes not, but when I click her profile and log out, without a new friend request, I can comment on her posts and we're friends. I have never had anything like this happen in the past, and its not like I don't see her anymore. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this? I cant seem to find any info.

  • Would it be a good April fools joke...?

To blast Rebecca Black's "Friday" after a play rehearsal tomorrow? Not just me sing it, but hook a I-pod up to the auditorium stereo, then set an alarm so it goes off at the end of practice? April Fool's does fall on a Friday this year, and I do want to come up with at least a decent prank...without losing TOO many friends...

  • Will Colleges still care about SATs if I'm transferring through a community college?

I don't know what it is with me. My SAT scores are stagnant, and every time I do them, they only raise about 20 points at best, to my current highest of 1900. More likely than not, due to money issues, I will be enrolling in a community college for a year then transfering. I have the bulk of the other courseload (3.78 unweighted GPA, about 9 AP classes, plenty of Volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and Extra curriculars, and im technically enrolled in the community college for English), but the SATs are still not nearly where I want them. I told this to some friends, and they claim that there is really no point in taking SAT's besides placement tests for them, since your just essentially transfering to another college. Is this true?

  • Can Senior year matter more than it seem it does?

It may be hard to word the question in a way I'm trying to get it...

Im going to be a senior this next school year. So far, I've got about a 3.8 GPA, though that's a bit on the low side for some of the Colleges I was aiming for (UVA, JMU, for instance). This Senior year, Ive loaded up on 5 AP courses total, thinking the first quarter would at least be partially looked at. However, plenty of friends have laughed at me, saying senior year doesn't matter at all to colleges-Just the other three. Is senior year that worthless in the long run, or can I make it somewhat count when applying to colleges by taking a semester at a community college first then transferring to another college?

I feel this belongs in the higher education (University) category. If it does not, please tell me and it will be moved. Thank you.

  • How do they keep air in the rockets?

It may be a dumb question, but when I searched, All I got was "air powered rockets." My brother asked me this morning how they manage to keep a good air supply in space for the astronauts. Though usually I get quite a few questions like that from him, I was actually dumbfounded on this one. How is it that astronauts can stay in space without breathing up all the air on their shuttle/rocket?

  • How far apart in Coordinates are the Sun and Earth from the Galactic Center?

Ok, this 2012 business is really getting to me. Now, worst of all, my family is converting to the 2012 side. Just a few minutes ago, I came up from watching a marathon on Nostradamus and his predictions. Some were semi-accurate (hister, however, was about it) to What the- off (Yeah, stereotype a bear for communism. Oh yeah. Pay no attention to the fact that bears were unheard of in the first place at Nostradamus's time! Remember the Behemoth?).

Anyways, back to topic, one of the points the "special" brought up was galactic alignment. I realize this will never happen by 2012, since there is no way for a straight line from the plane of orbit of the earth through the sun to the milky way center. However, I got curious: How far are Earth and the sun from aligning with the galactic center?

  • Swell. Any ideas how to fix the I-pod?

Alright, so I got back from a wrestling match. At the match, I handed my friend my backpack since he didn't believe me when I said my backpack was killing my back. Long story short, he dropped my backpack (That I measured on the scale at 30 pounds-lots of textbooks for homework), from 4 feet, with my I-pod on the bottom, sandwiched between the books in another compartment and the floor. I believe this has corrupted my I-pod. Even worse for me, since my internet wasn't working a few minutes ago, I tried to restore it with its original factory settings and its current I-pod version.

When I try to connect it, all it gives me is a big red X with a help link to the apple support site for Ipods. It doesn't appear in I-tunes, it doesn't even get recognized by the computer. So the big question: How can I fix this and correct my I-pod?

If it helps, I am using a Generation 5 I-pod classic, using Windows XP. My current I-tunes version is 8.0.1.

  • Now that the LHC is on, have you noticed any "End of the Worlds" around your home?

I just realized that today was the day that the LHC was to be turned on. Not surprisingly, the bulk of kids at my school were in panic over the machine (Well...not a bulk...only a few. But once news got out, it spread to a few others like a wild fire). So what has happened so far with this "doomsday device?"

In addition, I heard that the US government was construction another Particle Accelerator in the 1990s, but the project was terminated due to the cost. Any information, or at least a name, on this?

Please answer fast, a dead pixel in the screen is turning everything around it black...oh dear, It just sucked in the speakers...

  • Have I missed out on a new Y!A question fad?

"Get millions of real answers from millions of real people." seems to be on the rise, but I dont get why. Some questions, they post a stupid detail (one read "what does up but doesnt come down", which my answer for got reported. Heh, I still dont regret the answer though) some with details that does not constitue as a question, and some with no details whatsoever. How did this trend start? and does this violate any of the terms of service (other than spam and not a question, for instance.)

  • Is the moon being pulled towards earth, or flying away from us?

I heard that the moon is slowly but steadily pulling earth towards it, and im arguing with my friend, who thinks the earth is being pulled into outer space slowly. We both know that it is not going to be immediate, I know. But Im looking online for the answer, and I find mixed results, not finding a definate answer. Which is it?

  • There are 4 I_got_sars on my contacts. Did I miss something?

Logging on to Yahoo again today, I saw that I_got_sars is in my contacts again...and this makes 4 I-got_sars to date. Is the rooster really becoming this big of a celebrity on Y!A?

(This question will be deleted if people consider it spam. Im just curious since all the I_got_sars seemed to be created in 2006, and are working links for me...)

  • What do you think of the new planet discovered?

If you havent heard already, Europian astreonomers in Chile have discovered a planet about 120 tillion miles (less than 5 light years if im correct) away from our solar system! They have discovered solid "super earths" before, but usually it was either Venus like, Pluto like, or just another hot jupitur. However, this one is the size of earth, about same temperatures, and seems alot like earth. It would be a very massive and heavy planet, and it is not very bright, but I would wager over $1000 dollars that life is on that planet. It doesnt have to be human life, but it hopefully is planet life (it could absorb ,moisture in the air), bacteria, single celled organisms, or possibly even actual multi celled animal life!

    What do you all think?

(If this is an old question, or a few people somehow are offended, just tell me. I will gladly delete this)

  • I dont get this "top contributer" thing............................?

Finally. Yahoo is using the top 10 answerers in each section, as said in the suggestions forum for a while. However, now that its come full circle, Im confused. I have 73 Best answers at last count in the astronomy and Space section, though strangely enough, I have seen people in other major catagories with multiple best answers, even though they have, say, less than 75 best answers. That just confuses the heck out of me. Im not looking for gratification. Im not looking to be a top contributer myself. Im just wondering how it is they are top contributers. Is it because even though I have more best answers, mine are mainly voted for? Am I not asking enough questions? A little help?

(Id love to be more specific, but I hate naming people unless I REALLY hate what they are doing.)

(Also, if you see this as a pointless topic, I will delete it if a good portion of people say so.)

  • What happened!?

I sign on today and see how yahoo! is doing. Suddenly, I look where it says how many points we gained since last visit is, and it says I lost 7 points. I looked to my activity list, and I lost 20s actually, minus a best anser and visiting, plus andswering a question! That did NOT just happen! I checked to see what the question was that it happened on, but they were deleted! Im not complaining like alot of sore whiners out there who demand yahoo give them their points back or they side with the trollz, I just want to have an Idea how this happened.

and I saw on the front page that in the news, Pluto has officially been demoted from planet status to an "ice dwarf." Now, only 8 planets remain in the solar system supposivly. Is this true?

  • Who here likes the new style of yahoo! answers better than the old one?

I personally liked the old look of Y!A, but there are some things, like the question and answer rating system for level 2s and showing the level of the person under the name. What do you all think?
