Signed to Epic Records in the 70s, these gentlemen shot their wad before

they even got into the recording studio! They had no choice but to

release a live album instead. Name this group with one album to their

name.

Hint: One member had a solo career and also recorded and toured with

numerous heavyweights. One member played guitar in a 1950s group and

switched instruments and joined the rock world in the 1960s. Another

member later played in a popular 70s r&b group and then went on to

notoriety in another arena altogether.

They were the house band in a unorthodox environment.....not necessarily

the main attraction, but part of the overall fabric of the scene. They

played pizza parlors and coffee houses in the burbs before moving to the

big city. They lived together and played music all the time.....often

for free....the many events and festivals they played were like big

parties.....In their formative days, they used to give away free gifts

to the audience. They developed a big cult following and then grew and

grew over the years....adding and deleting some members along the way.

Their musical influences surfaced in many ways with a myriad of styles,

always played uniquely in their own special way. They've influenced a

whole generation of musicians.

From songwriter in the early 60s to major recording artist and

internationally successful touring act, he was a noticeable figure as a

singer-songwriter and transitioned to more of an album artist, dynamic

concert performer, then went down the "soft road" broadening his appeal

but often shunned by rock critics. Ironically, he wound up in a rock

movie which had even more people shaking their collective

heads.....including some of the members of the featured group.
