How do you tell the age of different soil layers without a reference mark?
I have several places in which the soil strata is visible. I am curious to know how to determine the age of the different strata as there are visible differences in the soil composition (texture, color, etc.). There are no fossils to reference nor outcroppings of rock. Some places have layers of rock underneath that I can use for a reference but to go above those layers, it's hard for me to determine the age. I can walk in a gully/ditch and see the strata but I don't know how old the soil layers are. I once heard that it takes around a 100 years for an inch of topsoil to form.
If anyone has any good references (books or journals) to refer to for additional information, I'd appreciate it greatly, especially if its something I can get from Amazon. Thanks!
1 AnswerEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoIs it legal for a public school to give an exclusive contract to a mental health agency and deny others access
I work in a school district that has an exclusive contract with a local private mental health provider. The contract allows this provider the ability to come onto any of the campuses in the school district to provide counseling and case management services to only the students who are already receiving services by the provider in the provider's clinic. Other students who are not already going to the clinic are not seen by the personnel of the provider at the school.
The problem is that there are two other mental health providers who see some of our students but they are not allowed to step into the schools during the school day, even with permission from a parent. Thus, the benefit of receiving counseling from their providers is denied by the contract.
Something about this doesn't seem right and I am hoping to find out a court case or legal statute that either supports this or doesn't. Thanks ahead of time.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoShould I waive my grace period?
I just graduated on 5/19. I'm hoping to attend a phd program starting in september. I had to register in abstentia during the spring in order to complete a full time internship. The university automatically indicates zero hours when a person registers this way regardless of the activities. SallieMae now thinks I stopped going to school in December and my grace period is expiring in 10 days. I want to consolidate with a different lender but to do so would require me to waive my grace period and then apply for an economic hardship deferment in order to hold me over until September. Is this a good choice or not?
1 AnswerPersonal Finance1 decade agoWhat do I do with how I am paid? annual salary versus daily rate?
I started working for a school district in January which is, of course, the middle of the school year. I was quoted an annual salary that was to be spread out over 12 months (I am an 11 month, 220 day employee). However, when my gross monthly salary is multiplied by 12, it equals an annual salary nearly $4,000 a year less than what I was quoted.
When I approached this issue, I was told how they figured my daily rate and then multiplied that by the number of days remaining in the contract and then divided that amount by the number of paychecks to be received before the next contract period. For example:
If I'm told 12,000 a year spread of 12 months, then that equals 1,000 per month. However, they get the daily rate--12,000 divided by 220 = 54.55--and multiply that by the number of days remaining in the contract--Jan10 to end of June = 117 days; 54.55 x 117 = 6382.35--and then divide that amount by the number of checks to receive--7 checks (Jan-Jul) ... 911.76 per month, not 1000. ??
1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoSingle or married with dependents?
Years ago, I was burned with not having enough taxes pulled out when I first got married. I ended up owing. As a result, I started having employers pull as if I was single with no dependents. Now, I'm married and have a daughter and am still doing this... but it's cutting a chunk into my paycheck. I was wondering if it would be safe to move up to married with two and if it would cause me to owe at the end of the year. I was told I could do married with 3, with myself being a dependent and that I should be okay doing married with 2. Any thoughts?
5 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoWhy would 3 of 4 blood samples from the same person at the same time show normal lvl's of testosterone?
I had 4 samples of blood taken from me to do a variety of tests. One of which was to test for the level of testosterone. I called today and was told "well, three are normal but this one isnt and I dont know why". I ended up getting an appt scheduled to see the doctor on Monday. There were a total of four tests to be done: Cholesterol, CBC, Glucose levels (and other stuff on that list that were similar) and testosterone. Would they take a sample from each vial of blood and run a testosterone check on it? or would one vial be dedicated for each test (as I would normally think it would be).
I'm wondering if the testosterone was low and the girl didnt want to elaborate on it over the phone. I called yesterday and was told that the testosterone report wasnt back yet but the others were and that the CBC and Cholesterol was fine and my triglycerides were just a little high.
Any opinions?
1 AnswerOther - Diseases1 decade agocan you be forced to resign or face termination for considering another job while on probation?
there was no notice given, no mentioning of using employer resources, no anything, just that b/c i was considering another place to work that was closer to home, i was told that the facility didnt want to pay the salary to me anymore. then, the guy came back with some off the wall lame excuse for his decision, that i'm really interested in one aspect of the whole job and that my interests conflict with the facilities interests. i worked as a therapist and i love doing psych testing. i did it here and there and we billed legitmately for it. i saw patients too. it wasnt a problem that i knew of. in fact, no one had told me of any problems at all. my manager told me during this meeting that i was turning patients away but that never occurred. neither the director (who faced me) nor my manager ever advised of any wrongdoing and the "reasons" given were no where close to be true.
do i have any rights?
2 AnswersCareers & Employment1 decade agois there anyplace a person can go to check to see if a written work *really* is copywritten?
i have a copy of a book that was supposedly made at college by some students. i have reason to believe that they might have just put the copywrite symbol on the book as they typed it (the book is on a disk that i am in possession of) and i want to verify if it's really copywritten or not. i have done a search for the book through yahoo and google and have not found anything. is there a way to figure it out?
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoat what milage should a person change the spark plugs on a 2001 Grand Am GT? fuel filter? airl filter?
Have a friend with a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT (6cyl). I have typically changed plugs in my vehicles around 80k miles. She had someone tell her that the factory plugs could go 100k. Also, I was thinking something like 12 to 15k on the fuel and air filters...
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs2 decades agoHow do I change the belt out in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT?
this is the main belt on the passenger side of the engine. The engine is a front wheel drive which is not a problem for me but it looks like I have to support it with a jack before I can take the belt off.
