  • How can I search for a Croatian obituary?

My b-i-l passed away in 2009. I'd like to find his obituary if there is one, but I don't speak Croatian and his name is apparently quite common. Is there a certain place where I should begin my search? So far, my efforts have been fruitless.

  • What would be a good project for us for the summer?

My 8yr old niece will be spending one or two days a week with us for most of the summer (11 or 12 weeks total, I think). Last year, we had the same arrangement, and I had an activity for the two of us to do each week while my toddler son napped. I was thinking that maybe this year we could work on a bigger project that we'll work on all summer and finish just before school starts. Any ideas?

  • What or where is White Russia?

I always believed my ancestors to be from Poland and Russia. Today my dad told me that he remembers his grandfather referencing "White Russia" as where he was from. An online search brought up information about Belarus. Can anybody clarify the term "White Russia" for me or connect Poland or Russia to the term?

  • What would you recommend?

On a lab result: RBC, Hgb, Hct are all low (RBC around 3.5). All WBC counts are normal. PLT count is low-normal. MCV and coagulation are elevated. Patient is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. What do these labs suggest, and should we do surgery?

  • How many meals can you suggest?

I do not cook...but I'd like to. My son does well with finger foods, and I'm trying to start a healthier diet for myself now that he's eating real food. I feel like I'm always making the same things for us to eat. I'd like a menu rotation of more than three or so items. I'm looking for suggestions to keep our menu fresh, eat healthy, and let my son mostly feed himself. Can you help?

  • How can I help my son learn to talk?

At 18 months, my son only says "Dada," (and only sometimes. I'm not sure if he means it.) and "Right there." (only when I ask him where something is, and it's not spoken very clearly.) He knows 10-12 words in sign language, but the doctor said he should also have a dozen words in speech. He has recommended an early learner's program, but what else can I do to encourage him to talk?

  • What might these spots be on my son's body?

All of a sudden today my son has red spots or splotches all over his chest, back, and neck. My hubby is saying chicken pox. I think maybe heat rash since we've had four or five days in the 90s now after some pretty mild temperatures recently, and he has been playing outside. He's not scratching. He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable, and he's been getting baths each night (which I'm thinking would help control heat rash, but I don't know...) I've posted a photo in case it helps at http://www.geocities.com/klbleshe78/back.html. Any ideas about what this could be?

  • What do you keep in your lazy Susan?

I keep rearranging my cupboards, because I just can't get it how I want it. We've put food, dishes, even toys into our lazy Susan. I'm just curious what others put in there.

  • Are these people related?

I'm working on my family tree and need some help with some relationships. Take a look at this:

    www.geocities.com/boyzwilbboyz/rbtree.html

Tell me, please...Is M related to B, k, or d? Is K related to B, k, or d? I am looking for the true definition of these relationships (like first cousin once-removed, although I know that one doesn't apply to any of these). Thanks for your help.

  • I think It's a problem now. How do I help my son to sleep?

When my son was about 8 wks old, I asked for advice to get him to sleep at night. While I finally have gotten him into his crib to start with, he STILL doesn't sleep through the night. He's nearly 11 months old! I'm exhausted. Even on good nights he wakes between 2 and 3 in the morning and doesn't want to go back to bed. He wants to sleep on me. He went to sleep at about 20 to 8 last night. It's now 12:30 and we've trying to go back to sleep since a little after 11. Please, please, please, for the sake of my marriage and my sanity, can you help us?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Can you tell me an easy Croatian dessert recipe?

My brother-in-law is Croatian. I would like to surprise him with a Croatian dessert after our dinner tonight. The recipes that I'm finding either won't translate completely or take a bit longer than I'd like. I'm looking for something that's easy and fairly quick to make for someone who doesn't even really cook in English. Can you help?

  • Can I store my bread in the cupboard?

I use store bought loaves that I am tired of seeing on my counter top or on my microwave. (I just think this looks messy.) I have used the fridge for my bread, but I don't think it lasts well there, and it doesn't taste the same. I have a HUGE built-in pantry style cupboard that has room for the bread, but I'm afraid that it'll mold faster. Is there a way for me to keep my bread safely in this cupboard?

  • Should my son be ready for "older" foods?

My 10 month old has done really well eating solid food. He mastered cereal beginning at 4 months and stage one jarred baby food quickly from six months. He does extremely well with stage two and even some stage three foods, as long as it has no "pieces." Anything with rice or noodles, even small veggie chunks gets spit out. Over two and a half months his reaction hasn't changed. I don't try to force him, but I don't want him to think he can eat puree forever either. I'd like him to graduate to real food someday. He does feed himself rice cookies, but he struggles a little with Cheerios. (I don't know if he realizes they're food even when I show him.) I have tried to feed him Mommy's food. (For example, if I'm eating peas, I'll put a couple on his tray. He'll only eat them if I squish them. He won't do it.) I guess I just want to know if there's a way I can help him transition to different textures. Any ideas?

  • Should I leave baby on his belly?

My almost 7 month old son has not slept in his crib until this weekend. Tonight is the second night that it seems we're going to make it all night. I put him to sleep on his back. I checked on him earlier to find him on his side. When I checked on him just now, he'd rolled over to his belly. Should I try to turn him back over so he's laying on his back or should I leave him like he is. I don't really want to wake him, but I don't want to endanger him either. I'm ready for him to be comfortable in his crib so I can get back to my own bed, and I'm afraid that is going to cloud my judgement about whether to leave him or not.

  • How can I increase lactation??

I'm a proud breastfeeding convert. I didn't want to do it. My doctor convinced me to try. My son is a genius, and I fell in love with it. I was going to nurse for 6 wks, wean for 6 wks, then go back to work. Baby had other plans. I was on bedrest for 4 mo before he was born, so I didn't have 12 wks before returning to work. I decided to nurse and pump, aiming for 6 mo exclusively, then have him finished with breastfeeding by one year. I felt like I had issues w/lactation before...tried the tea and a drug. I'm not sure if it helped, but we were exclusive for 4 1/2 mo, used 1 bottle of formula ea day I worked after that until solids at about 5mo. He's 6 1/2 mo now, and I believe my milk production is starting to dwindle. Now that he's begun solids, I don't think I worry as much (which I thought was a problem earlier), but I am afraid I'll "run out of juice" before he (or I) am ready. Any advice?

  • Let's play a game. Do you think you can win?

List as many names as you can that contain the letter "k," but DO NOT begin with it. Names that either begin with "k" or don't have one at all will disqualify you. As will names that aren't really names. (This will of course fall to my descretion.) The points go to the person who has the most names when the question expires. Ready? Begin.

  • Can I pass cars in a funeral procession?

My sister was with her friend on a four lane highway when they encountered a funeral procession. They passed them in the left lane. I know that funeral processions have the right of way, but when there are extra lanes, are you supposed to stay behind them, or was passing them okay? They asked. I don't really know. What do you think?

  • What should I be sure to ask a potential daycare provider before I take my children to them?

My son will be eight weeks old when I return to work. At that time we'll need to enlist some help to watch him. I just want to know what sorts of questions I need to know the answers to before choosing a daycare.
