  • What's the best video encoding software for windows? Like Cleaner for OSX?

I'm trying to find out what the best software is for encoding videos on windows. I'm used to using Cleaner on my mac, but havn't been able to find anything as good for windows. All the stuff I've found so far is quite slow, buggy and not user friendly at all. It's mainly needed for encoding mpeg1 and mpeg 2 files, but i'd like something that does windows media and quicktime formats as well. Must be good for batch encoding as well.

  • Why's the new RAM for my Macbook Pro not working?

Just bought 2 gig of ram from crucial to replace the 512mb that came with my macbook pro, installed it very carefully - paying close attention to the instructions. Then when i turned it on the the light on the front kept flashing, and it didn't boot up. So i tried it with just a 1gig stick and it did the same. hen i decided to put the old 512mb back in and it still won't boot up.

The obvious thing would be that it's not in the slot properly, but i can't see how it could go in any further. It might be faulty RAM, but i bought from Crucial as they're supposed to be the best.

  • iWeb: How do I know how many people have subscribed to my podcast?

I've got a podcast on my website which was created in Apple iWeb. I'm wondering if there's a way to see how many people have subscribed to it. Can't see anything about this in the iWeb help - do I need to get another piece of software to do this?

  • Can import Firefox bookmarks from another computer running Firefox?

I have just bought a Macbook Pro and would like to import all my bookmarks from my G5 Powermac. There doesn't seem to be an option to import or export bookmarks to or from firefox. You can import bookmarks from Safari, but that's no use. Is there a file that I can copy over that contains the bookmarks?

  • What's the easiest way to upload files to the net with a pc?

My friend wants to upload some of his dj mixes to the net so he can let people hear them and post links to them on forums and stuff. I have a mac with a dotmac account, so i can do it really easily, it's all integrated. But how would you go about doing this with a pc. I guess he'll need some webspace first. is there anyone that provides a service that lets you buy webspace and upload files easily? there doesn't have to be any kind of interface involved, just a link to the file.

  • Why is everyone so stupid?

The best thing about yahoo answers is laughing at the daft questions people seem to ask. Like "Where can I download a free distionary?" or "How do you have sex if you've not been circumcised?" You know the type.

But why are the general public so retarded?

  • Why can't I install monitor drivers on windows xp? I'm stuck at 640x480 4bit?

Yet again i'm wasting valuable minutes of my life trying to get windows to work properly.

I just reinstalled windows xp on my brothers dell computer, and it won't let me put the resolution higher than 640x480 or the colour quality higher than 4 bit.

It has onboard graphics which are apparently working properly, and i've tried downloading drivers for the monitor but it won't let me install them. I go to the monitors tab in the control panel but the properties tab (where I change the driver) is greyed out. It says "default monitor" but i can't change any settings. There isn't an actual installer for the drivers, so the only way to set them is through the control panel.

It got infected with about 30 viruses within the first 10 minutes of being on the internet, they should all be gone now, but i guess it could maybe have something to with that. It's a dell dimension 8200 with dell e771a monitor, and i want to throw it out of the window.

  • Why is PC better than Mac?

Ok so you think pc's are better than macs.

Which specific things do you think are better about pc's and why?

Macs can run windows and osx, but other than more games/office software what does windows have that osx doesn't?

You can buy a brand new intel mac mini with built in bluetooth, wireless, firewire, usb and remote control for £449/$599, and it's as portable as a laptop, or a superfast imac with a £400 screen built into it for £929/$1299 - all built to an incredibly high standard. So why would I want to buy a pc?

    Convince me!

  • What kind of wireless antenna should i get? Apple g5 with Netgear?

I'm getting a rubbish signal from my Netgear Modem Router. I have a Netgear modem router in my kitchen, and behind a brick wall in my bedroom i have an Apple G5 with airport card. Most of the time i get 2 (out of 4) bars signal strength, which is normally strong enough to use the internet. But a lot of the time it goes down to one bar, which is too weak to use. The computer normally sits under my desk, so sometimes if i slide it out from under the desk the signal gets slightly better. Basically what i want to know is: should I buy an antenna for the computer or for the router? And which kind? The only antenna's for te g5 that i've seen are really expensive, and i don't even know if they're any good. I can get a 5db omni antenna for the router for a tenner, which looks like the best option as long as it works.
