I enjoy a good book! Most of what I read are sci fi or high fantasy, but also enjoy an interesting biography, cookbook, or gardening tome. I was in high school during the late 70's, a strange and goofy time. We were all doing the disco when the very first PC's rolled into the school. All DOS, no Windows; only the brainiacs were allowed to touch them. This is to let ya'll know about how old I am. Why don't I let people contact me? Because this PC is used by two other people. One (stinker) gets into other people's stuff, so, that's that. Besides literary adventures, I enjoy gardening, dogs, baking things. I also enjoy church activities, usually in the kitchen.

  • Spacing Nightmare on WordPerfect 5X?

I have a 125 page article that I had to change the spacing on. Why does it keep jumping back to the old way? I'm forever moving the lines back to where they should be, and moving the stupid things on the ruler, but when I shut it down for the night, the next morning, guess what? It's baaack to the way it used to be instead of where it should be! How do I convince it to stay where I put it?

  • What kind of books are NOT wanted by library book sales?

Books that have mildew on them or have the odor of mildew.

Books that have been water damaged. (i.e. soaked)

Books that are filthy--as in, sticky, muddy, covered with dried food, etc.

Books with torn pages or covers.

Books with missing pages or covers.

    Books with pages falling out.

Books that have been Highlighted to death.

Books that have been ruined by a baby with a pen/magic marker/crayon.

Books with broken pop-ups or missing flaps if they are flip-up illustrations.

Sometimes other reasons occur, such as the time the book box was opened and roaches scampered out!! The box was most quickly pitched into the trash can, books and all!! Then the can was taken outside to the dumpster, post haste!

Hopefully, this list helps anyone thinking about donating books to the library for their book sales. If it seems mean, think about what you would buy at a garage sale. Would you buy a badly damaged, torn up book? Didn't think so!

  • Is Chevy going to create a new HHR?

I love the HHR, it's just the right size for hauling stuff around and...since I'm shorter than average...it's just the right height for me to climb in and out of. I've tried others...too high! Dang, I'd have to get a rope ladder for some of them, no kidding!

  • Is this "update" on Windows 10 for real?

It appears to be from Windows 10; it is in the right place, but it only appears for a second or two, then goes away. It wants me to verify my current password so that it can "update my files". I was a bit leery about actually filling this thing out. I ran a virus scan and it went away for a couple days, then came back. Now I m very concerned. What is this thing?

  • How to pin my email to my main screen? A Firefox, Yahoo, and Win10 question.?

I have Firefox. Windows 10. And Yahoo email. I want to put the email on my main screen on Windows. Windows HATES Yahoo, so I have to do it through Yahoo and not Windows. Problem: I can't find the "Pin to Start" command anywhere. I think it might be hidden by Firefox. There is a whole bunch of options....but nothing that will help me do what I want to do. Or am I missing it?

  • How do you make a text box shrink so that you can use the buttons on the bottom of it?

I have a program that I cannot use because the box that has the "yes" and "no" buttons is too large for my PC. The buttons are too far beneath the tool bar to be used. I DO make the tool bar "go away", but the buttons are still too far down to be clicked on. I can see the very tops of the buttons, but not enough of them to click on. There has GOT to be a way to bring this thing under control! But how?

  • Arrgh! How can I get Ebay to understand that I don't use that photo file anymore?

I click on Ebay's "photos" button to load photos of the item I want to sell. Trouble is: I've switched to Windows 10 and Ebay pulls up the forms for Windows 7. How do I make Ebay accept the idea that I want to send photos from my email now and not from Windows 7? No, there is no options...Ebay opens right to the old Windows 7 photos program. (the program that came with Windows 7, that's all I know about it, other than it slam dunks Win 10's program without breaking a sweat!)

  • How can I find a small woman's boot when they don't sell half sizes?

I need a good ankle boot for wearing outdoors in the cold and wet. However, I wear a small half-size shoe. When I shop for shoes, the smaller whole size is too narrow. The larger whole size is a little too big. The option given me at shoestores by the clerks is to buy a girl's boot. I've looked at them, but the idea of wearing a boot with Dora the Explorer's face on them is.....demoralizing. And quality: if I *did* buy a girl's boot, could I expect the same insulation as an adult's boot?

  • How do I get photos out of Windows 10 's "Photos" and email them?

All the previous makes of Windows, all you had to do was go to "photos", open the folder, click on the photo, go down to the bar and tell it where to send the photo. Perfect for Ebay; Windows 7 worked nicely with Ebay. Oh, but WIndows 10. All the file folders are dumped into one pile and there is NO option for emailing any of them anywhere. How can I do my Ebay business like this?

  • How did a man stand at attention while sitting on a horse?

I can imagine the man saluting, probably sitting up straight, but what he do if the horse became anxious and began pawing the earth, tossing its head, trying to break rank and take off...that sort of thing? Was he allowed to drop "attention" and bring his horse under control or was that up to the general? Was the man laughed at later because of his horse?

  • If a woman stops menstrating, what does it mean if?

She starts dripping againg a few years later? She's had a visit to the doctor, who subjected her to the usual tests, they found that her insides had more "padding" than normal, but could find no reason for it being this way. She says that she drips only for a day, and not regularly. She doesn't use a large pad, only the tiniest ones available when she's doing this. It's been going on since this July, she says.

  • Napoleon Bonaparte. When people talk about dictators, they always overlook the "Little Corporal."?

This was one little man with a huge ego and bigger dreams. He started out small, but eventually took on the name "Emperor" after defeating a whole series of enemies. By this time, he'd also fallen off the reality wagon; as he decided to take Moscow....never a good idea. I say this because I'm tired of all the Hitler This, Hitler That, Hitler The Other. Yes, Hitler was a powerful leader. But he was not the only one!

  • Why isn't there an air pollution alert in the winter?

Driving into the city in the morning, the sky is blue from the heavy smoke gathered there during the night. Why is there no alarms? In the summer, people would be going nuts with the alarms. But in winter, pollution hangs like a dirty blanket and nobody says a thing.

  • Where does this license plate come from?

For two weeks, we've seen a strange license plate on a small blue "beater" car around town. It long and thin, like a British plate, but this is the United States, so we don't think it is from there. I looked at Canadian plates online, but couldn't find it. It has a blue stripe on the left side with a circle of stars(?) and two letters beneath the circle. The rest of the plate is orange with black, large, very clear numbers. The numbers were in two rows with several on top and several on the bottom. An apostrophe (') was between some numbers on the top. I looked at U.S. and Canada

"government" plates as well, but came up empty. We live hundreds of miles from Washington D.C. and New York, so whoever is driving this strange car is possibly very lost.
