Today I stumbled upon the lovely world of logarithms, and felt I understood the concept until I stumbled upon this question:

ln4x + lnx = 9

When solving, I added a base of e to both sides, giving me 4x + x = e^9. I would then reduce to 5x = e^9. And from there, it is a simple matter of e^9 / 5. Unfortunately, this is not the correct way of receiving the answer. The correct answer is approximately 45.0086.

Anyone who can explain to me me the method of solving this problem (in layman's terms) with get a cookie! And ten points. Thank you.
