I'm not normally a historical fiction reader but I'm in the mood for something written by a modern day author but with a story in the similar vein as Emma or Pride & Prejudice. I'd like sweet romance with witty banter. No lusty, heaving bosoms or pre-marital s e x! And I'd like decent writing.

Can anyone recommend books/authors of something like this?

For instance, Bridget Jones's Diary was a contemporary, humorous take on the novel. What are other funny ways one could adapt the story?

I have a pile of leaf and grass clippings in the backyard. These have slowly broken down without turning and now I'd like to use them as compost. I have many questions:

What can/can't you add to compost? I know no animal products. What else?

How often should you turn it?

Are you supposed to add anything other than clippings, vegetable waste?

How do you use it in gardening? When do you know it's ready? When it looks like soil?

This may sound stupid, but do you find worms and add them to the compost or do they naturally find their way to the compost?

Should worms be in compost?

Do I need a bin? Or will this pile work okay?

And finally, is there a thorough website that will cover my compost questions/concerns? Add links if you've got them, please.

Requests for homework help, requests for books to read, requests for story/novel ideas, questions about "how do I publish my novel/short stories/poems, etc." and questions asking "What's the best book you've ever read?", what do you have left?

Everything you do affects your life span. If you smoke, do drugs, have unprotected sex or drive recklessly, your lifespan decreases. So, is it really worth it to get there faster by driving above the speed limit or does everything even out in the end?

Since December 6, of last year (2006), I've applied for nearly forty jobs, some with my old company. I've only been asked to interview with two companies. I've only received about 4 or 5 rejection letters. The rest have not contacted me in any form.

I need to determine why I'm not being considered for these positions. Here's my background:

I have extensive customer service and clerical experience. My last position was seven years ago with a major company. I was quickly promoted within that company and had an excellent job record. I quit working to stay home with my child. In that seven year absence, I've raised my daughter and have worked as a freelance writer and novelist. My novels haven't been published but my non-fiction and short fiction have. I've also volunteered at my daughter's school and I'm a Girl Scout leader. I've updated my resume to indicate include my writing, volunteer work and my Girl Scout leader information.

I start to read questions and then realize they are basically intended for UK answerers. Why aren't they on the UK Yahoo?

While Edward Cullen is a fascinating character, I am finding it difficult to understand why he's attracted to Bella, who lacks confidence, is clumsy and suffers from a low self-esteem (thinks she isn't attractive.)

I'm a romance writer and I've noticed (with some dismay) that vampire/paranormal romances have increased in popularity in recent years.

When you read novels set in small towns, do you prefer them to be actual towns? Or are made-up towns acceptable?

I'm not talking big cities, like L.A., NYC, etc. I'm talking about almost rural locations, small towns like Horton, Kansas or Ellettsville, Indiana. Or does it matter to you?
